The Telegraph is an unreliable source. Why anyone would pay to read it is difficult to understand.

So, eazybee , when I repeat, yet again, that the report in the The Telegraph about the asylum seeker was a lie, you accuse me of "blaming the right wing press".
It was a lie.
Sometimes people lie. Is calling out a lie a problem, or us printing a lie the problem?

eazybee Thu 10-Apr-25 08:50:24

Yes, a typical tactic; blame the reporter, not the news.
It is a Labour mantra, blame the right wing press.
Diverts attention from what is actually happening, or in this case, is not happening.

Since this appeared I've looks at things. . What was done and said and by whom.
I agree with Trevor Phillips. To hysterically say we are targeting all Muslims who commit these vile crimes is exactly what shuts the investigations into the atrocities down. In my opinion these people should be put away for life and can the wider families really know nothing. Expose everything and if it takes the away a proportion of those that vote so what.

The Telegraph has form for "misunderstanding "/ " misreporting ".
It does this very well. You may recall my (repeated) posts correcting the lie they printed about the asylum - seeker - granted- leave - to - stay - because- he- had- a - cat.
The number of people who continue to quote this shows the success of untruthful and unscrupulous writers: I refuse to describe them as journalists.

Of course we have to expose the appalling failures. But we also have to put measures in to prevent further abuses and support victims - which is being proposed..

Wyllow3 Wed 09-Apr-25 23:09:25

This is the Hansard debate reported as a whole so people can get picture of the breadth of measures proposed and what everyone actually said. It's a long read but necessary to see why the reports of matters being dropped are so inaccurate.

As I said local enquiries have not been dropped but more work is being done for victims of abuse including grooming and more criminal measures specifically on grooming.

I think the information in Katie Lams speech was appalling, the story of the social worker was beyond words, there should have been a national inquiry into the failures of those meant to protect those children.

No coincidence that this has been dropped just before the May elections is it - frightened to death of not getting the votes from the predominantly Muslim communities where these viles acts occurred.

This is borderline racist. Many muslims utterly condemned the actions of the grooming gangs. Don't smear all because of the appalling behaviour of the few.

No it isn't - of course many condemned it but it still goes without saying that in these predominantly Muslim communities there were an awful lot of those that didn't condemn it. I'm not smearing all, just some, which just happens to be quite a lot of the votes that count. Do not call me a racist, that is something that I'm not.

Sir Trevor Phillips is very well respected and a great man.
All the papers are covering this disgraceful situation but many reports are behind pay walls.

This is a massive scandal.

No pay walls in Hansard, look it up for yourself, yesterday

Wyllow3 Wed 09-Apr-25 22:42:39

I have had to deal with this accusation earlier today on another forum.

Lies.

The local inquiries have not been cancelled. It was a press release put out by the Conservative Party. Initially Katie Lam (Conservative Shadow Safeguarding minister)

criticised the lack of progress and later that day the C party put out a press release accusing Labour of cancelling.

The Home Office has released a £5 million national fund not just for Independent Local Enquires but to build local victims panels and other regular local audits. The idea being not just to look back but to build for the future to prevent repeats. This full programme of measures, which also includes further support on the police front, is to be announced in May

It's all in Hansard dated yesterday word for word

dont believe all you read in the Tory press when its half the news - the tory accusations.

If the article is true, that is diabolical behaviour.

Waiting to hear what Maggie Oliver has to say about this.
