I saw on a post today from Maximilian Robespierre that even Fox News featured a story where the light had dawned about it being Americans who would actually be paying the taxes, not China, and small businesses are likely to go under. Durr.

When people in the US realised they'd be paying three times as much for their Apple phones Trump had no option to blink first.
He did the same when American bonds were quickly being sold. China holds many of those bonds.
Is Trump capable of reasoned thought before he caused chaos for himself as well.

Trump is losing any credibility that he may have had and China is making him look a complete fool. Why on earth people think he's a genius deal maker is totally beyond me. If I were China I would put a temporary blockade on the export of chips and any electronic goods made in China to the US until Trump lifted the tariffs on everything.

If China really wants to put the boot in all they need to do is flog even more of the US treasury bonds they hold to create a run and the US will be hit with their enormous debt costing more, which is the exact opposite of what Trump wants to achieve. I'm afraid Trump does not even understand basic economics!

Trump has now exempted Smart phones and Laptops from the tariffs fearing Apple, Dell, HP etc would be hit hard and consumer prices would skyrocket.

If I was China I would ban the export of technology to the US, short term that would hit the US hard. China isn’t going to be a pushover in a trade war.

It seems people are asking for inquiries into people close to Trump making money from insider dealing, MTG is one under suspicion!

China is now refusing to sell rare earth minerals to the US. Which snookers a lot of US manufacturing.

Does Trump think that China would just take the huge tariffs imposed on them and not retaliate. Denying the US of the rare earth minerals that they need for many things including defence must be a blow. However much they bluster about acquiring them elsewhere it will take time.

Dos anyone else think it might be deliberate, ie as in Project 25's support for policies that engineer a crash, through this series of interventions, withdrawals, backdown on withdrawals and so on, and somehow the US phoenix will arise triumphant from the flames? (the rich, of course, remaining rich, including Trump and buddies.

I don't see it working, but at any rate think we cant trust them and needs to make our own alliances.

I don’t think the reaction is what was expected at all. I think they have ballsed it up big time to be honest, they aren’t getting the reaction Trump expected, and the light is dawning for some of them that they have it badly wrong. It now depends on how pig headed Trump is, and whether he can do anything that will save some face.

Not only that Monica.. but he has now cut grants to the very same universities where much of the world's new innovations are created.. thus potentially losing their lead in all sorts of technologies, medicine and scientific research

I think China are calmly playing a waiting game. Nobody can tell what Trump will do next and he changes his mind daily. He is very erratic. China have a lot of US bonds which if they sell could cause problems for Trump. They have told him they will fight to the end in a trade war and they do have 'weapons' that can cause harm to the US like the minerals that they aren't sending now.
