The last post was from imaround telling us what books have been banned from a Naval Library:

"Over 300 books banned at the US Naval Academy.

They have figured out our futures. We all work in the factories until we die.

“It’s time to train people not to do the jobs of the past, but to do the great jobs of the future,” Howard Lutnick told CNBC this week.

“This is the new model, where you work in these plants for the rest of your life, and your kids work here, and your grandkids work here.”

Veterans are not happy with him right now. He is taking away the day dedicated to honoring them at the same time he has cancelled the program that helps veterans with mortgage modifications so they don't go into foreclosure.

I can barely begin to imagine the arrogance a person would have to have to order a military parade for oneself after being a draft doger , repeatedly insulting war heros, anf standing on the grave of a fallen soldier giving a thimbs up in this countries most hallowed ground. Then to take away any services they were promised for putting their lives on the line is unforgivable.

Steven Miller's America First Foundation has sued John Roberts (of the Supreme Court) and some other court system. They say the Executive Branch (Trump) should have control of the federal court system. You know, the same system that keeps ruling against him? This is their reasoning:

"The group argued that it’s necessary to bring the bodies under the executive branch because members of Congress, who have the constitutional authority to define most of the federal court system, asked the Supreme Court in 2023 to create or adopt an ethics code for justices.

The request was in response to allegations that Justice Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas accepted, and did not disclose, lavish gifts from conservative figures who eventually had business before the court.

“Recently, the media and liberal lawmakers have sought to undermine the political independence of Article III Courts,” the lawsuit reads."

I don't completely understand the legal side of this. Need to figure out why they can do that. Who is going to rule on it? He is asking the courts to rule on the courts?

Trump wants a hugely expensive military parade..

The DOJ has decided that they will no longer enforce desegregation orders for schools. Thus allowing for segregation at schools. We will be seeing the whites only signs back up again soon at this rate.

No one is forced to. But one runs the risk of being labeled a Communist and being harassed by some random MAGA neighbor if you don't. grin

I didn't put one up because I think Trump is dumb and no one bothered me. We will see next year what happens I suppose.

Wyllow3 Fri 02-May-25 16:01:19

Except there were big protests and rallies against Trump reported in the news, so presumably not everyone was forced to?

Wyllow3 Fri 02-May-25 15:58:19

😂😂

The irony is (until its explained to him) Trump probably wouldn't get the joke and not know the song.

Wonder if everyone did fly flags.

Chocolatelovinggran Fri 02-May-25 14:41:48

imaround, in school, we danced around a maypole on May Day and crowned a Queen if the May - all very pagan ( not sure that Trump would approve of that)
Alternatively, perhaps one could fly a red flag, singing
" So hoist the scarlet banner high
Beneath the flag we'll live and die
Though cowards flinch and traitors fear
We'll keep the Red Flag flying here"
Maybe Mr Trump would like that instead?

He's gone completely bonkers. I don't think he's really in charge, he's a puppet being given a few toys to play with whilst the real subversives damage America. Is Superman going to save the world? Sorry, I keep thinking I'm watching a really bad American movie but you just can't make this up, can you? It's totally bizarre!

Puppet-masters. Billionaire technology-company owners with no experience in human resources or social sciences who know the price of everything (and everyone) and the value of nothing (and no-one), and who are playing with politics and government as though it is a game of Sims.

Trump is the battering ram to smash down the protective walls that keep them from the top level of the game. When he has done his job he can be discarded. His friend Putin already seems less keen to play with him than he used to be.

Ok, I think I understand now. Essentially, anyone who doesnt fly a flag on May Day are communists. He has used the word communist in his rhetoric quite a bit lately.

I'm confused!

May Day has its origins in paganism then became one of the most important holidays in communist countries.
Does he not realise that?

I literally have no idea what this is. Loyalty Day and Law Day. It does seem a bit Supreme Leader of him.

He invented the carping in the first place. When did we first hear about "paying back" and who from?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 01-May-25 21:46:39

Well this transactional approach by Trump stops the carping in the US about the cost of donations to Ukraine.

Wyllow3 Thu 01-May-25 19:29:10

Ok, what have found out

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5yg456mzn8o
all in the detail but

A US military commitment back on table
The US has framed the deal as an essential one to sign if Ukraine is to continue to receive its military assistance.
Ukrainian First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko - who flew to Washington DC to sign the deal - said it envisaged the US contributing new assistance in the future, such as air defence systems.

but US can still walk away any time
It appears there are no concrete security guarantees from the US, which is something Ukraine and Europe have long been pushing the White House to provide.
Trump has long been reluctant to give the same military commitment that Biden had given.
Instead, his interest in staying the course with US support for Ukraine is more implicit, due to the economic commitments set out in this deal.
That means there would still be a fragility about the commitment of Ukraine's most important ally.

It feels like friendly noises but without a deal with Russia?

MayBee70 Thu 01-May-25 19:27:40

Every time I turn the tv on Trump seems to be droning on about something. If he is so confident about his presidency why does he spend so much time knocking his predecessor? I do wish his so called speeches were fact checked.

imaround Thu 01-May-25 19:04:20

Trump has no intention of ending this war. He got what he wanted, money. He doesnt give a rats behind about what happens to Ukraine.

I support Zelinsky. He held out for months and now agreed to a deal. He must have been happy with something in it.

Wyllow3 Thu 01-May-25 18:30:48

I don't understand this well done Trump, Churchill et al, what security guarantees has Trump given Zelensky to back him in return for the deal? Has Trump got anywhere with Putin as regards a peace?

Its certainly a thank goodness Zelensky/Trump for "no back pay"

but whats the plan anyone?

Casdon Thu 01-May-25 18:19:32

If it came with a guarantee of peace and sovereignty for Ukraine it would be a different scenario imaround. However Trump is relying on Russia, with no guarantee at all that they will comply as it stands at the moment.

imaround Thu 01-May-25 18:15:20

Well the right thing would have been for Russia to not invade in the first place. A mineral deal Zelinsky is happy with is a close second.

Casdon Thu 01-May-25 17:48:01

How can it be the right thing for a country that was invaded by a hostile power to be forced to sell its best assets to another country with no guarantee that will ensure peace either?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 01-May-25 17:44:40

Well done Trump! Perhaps very late to the party but he seems to be getting there in the end! As Churchill once said, ‘ When Americans have exhausted all options, they will do the right thing’.
He was not far wrong.
