Has been hit with an arrest warrant in Bangladesh for corruption charges.

Does this involve extradition? I’ve no idea.

But whatever, it’s not a good look. I wonder what Starmer thinks about it. They are very friendly apparently.

“Ms Siddiq was approached outside of her home by Sky News on Monday and told the broadcaster: “I can’t dignify this politically motivated smear campaign with any comment”.

‘Trying to harass me’
She went on to allege that the ACC was “trying to harass me”, adding: “There is “no evidence I’ve done anything wrong”.

It comes after Bangladesh demanded that Interpol issue a Red Notice to Ms Siddiq if she does not attend a court hearing in Dhaka this month.

The former treasury minister is accused of illegally receiving a plot of land from her despot aunt’s government.

A Bangladeshi court issued an arrest warrant against Ms Siddiq on Sunday and expects her to comply by April 27.”

Starter will no be loyal to anyone that might harm his reputation. She will be on her own and unsupported in this.

If there is evidence that she has broken the law or broken parliamentary rules, then he would be right not to support her. Standards have to be upheld, surely. We have had too many years of transgressions staying under the radar, so it’s not about him, it’s about the reputation of the party, and of all politicians. I’d like to see that standard upheld going forward, whoever is in power.

Would you expect loyalty towards a friend who deceived you?

MayBee70, could you arrange for your theme tune, the arrival of the Queen of Sheba, to play every time you post?

That would be good. One of my favourite pieces of music...grin

Iam thank you. We have exchanged pm’s in the past and you are aware of my history re the Labour Party.
No further explanation from me is necessary….

(Sorry, I'm not able to curtsey at the moment)

All I could find was "The UK lists Bangladesh as a 2B extradition country - meaning clear evidence must be presented before ministers and judges make a decision.

It's all very complicated/under dispute relating to her aunt (who was the PM and does seem to have been corrupt) and some land ownership. Some commentators in Bangladesh are saying it's a political gambit, others....

So I'm honestly not sure what should or will happen with these allegations.

Can a sitting MP be extradited?

True Magenta8 it was a silly aside from me. Perhaps best to never judge a book by its cover. Or something. 😊

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 13-Apr-25 21:04:23

That’s okay Wyllow. Pax. 😁

Wyllow3 Sun 13-Apr-25 20:54:41

I'm sorry I got cross FGT, (yes it was sarcastic Grannylynj but there is a bit of a history of crossing swords that FCT and I both know all too well 🙂)

My opinion is that our future lies in trade/security alliances with Europe and Canada.

Trump is giving the UK preferential treatment. Starmer should grab it. I hope he does. I hope he doesn’t prevaricate and hitch our wagon to the EU. Time will tell but so far he’s playing a blinder Wyllow don’t you agree?

In what way is Trump giving the UK preferential treatment? We have the 10% tariff and 25% on vehicles, the same as all other countries except China - unless he’s changed the rules again today?

Actually isn’t there a saying about judging a man by the company he keeps …. 🤔

If that applies to women too I must be well beyond the pale.

I was good friends with a person who was tried and convicted of grooming and assaulting children. They are still serving a sentence now.

Needless (I hope) to say, I had no idea that all this was going on and I had no part in it. Being friends with someone does not made you an accessory.

It is very unwise and hateful to jump to conclusions on the basis of a stupid old saying.

I like tulip...she was very involved in the campaign to release nazanin zaghari

Wyllow3 Sun 13-Apr-25 18:53:34

Correct sentence: Starmer stands for everything against what Project 25 stand for and is being brought into law.

One obvious point is the separation of powers of the President/PM from the Judiciary, and for Due Process:

another key one is Starmer's support for Equality and Diversity measures as appropriate, measures against hate crime, and the support for the histories of race and women's equality to be not only in libraries (Trump has been censoring books and articles) but in school curriculum.

Wyllow3 Sun 13-Apr-25 18:47:49

So you keep saying, except in everything I've read, you dont.

It's literally impossible politically to support both: Starmer stands for everything that Project 25 does.

You've read all that Trump has been doing on the Trump thread in his own country which totally goes against what Starmer and the Labour Party stand for.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 13-Apr-25 18:43:00

Isnt there a saying about being innocent until proven guilty as well?

Yes that applies to all. Not just the few.
