Has been hit with an arrest warrant in Bangladesh for corruption charges.

Does this involve extradition? I’ve no idea.

But whatever, it’s not a good look. I wonder what Starmer thinks about it. They are very friendly apparently.

I'm sure if she has been involved in corruption (not guilty yet), he would condemn that.
Starmer's never done anything to suggest he condones corruption. (I don't count assistance to buy a power wardrobe, which he declared quite promptly in any case).

"they are very friendly" oh yes, I'm sure.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 13-Apr-25 12:31:02

valdavi why did you automatically doubt what I said?

“Balancing personal loyalty to a self-described good friend with whom he's been on holiday against mounting public and political pressure.”

Yes he’ll condemn corruption if she’s found guilty.

I have no doubts about that and I didn’t vote for the man or the party.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 13-Apr-25 12:33:32

Actually isn’t there a saying about judging a man by the company he keeps …. 🤔

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 13-Apr-25 12:34:38

Only clickbait from me.
I’m sure Keir Starmer is aware of the situation and pondering his response.

Wyllow3 Sun 13-Apr-25 12:43:00

Isnt there a saying about being innocent until proven guilty as well?

Remind me - am I right in thinking you support Trump?

Have you been on holiday with him to Mar-a-Lago, FGT2 ? 😯

Oreo Sun 13-Apr-25 13:57:07

As long as he isn’t actually there we could organise a coach trip to Mar-a-Lago I bet it’s wonderful.Deck chairs and pina coladas in hand and luxury all round.😜

Yes that applies to all. Not just the few.

BlueBelle Sun 13-Apr-25 14:09:27

Oh FGT you would beat him with a stick even if the man had a permanent halo on his head You re very predictable
Like him or loathe him I think Keir Starmer is as straight as a die unlike some of your ideals

Maremia Sun 13-Apr-25 18:39:34

grin

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 13-Apr-25 18:43:00

I support Keir Starmer these days.

Wyllow3 Sun 13-Apr-25 18:47:49

So you keep saying, except in everything I've read, you dont.

It's literally impossible politically to support both: Starmer stands for everything that Project 25 does.

You've read all that Trump has been doing on the Trump thread in his own country which totally goes against what Starmer and the Labour Party stand for.

Wyllow3 Sun 13-Apr-25 18:53:34

Correct sentence: Starmer stands for everything against what Project 25 stand for and is being brought into law.

One obvious point is the separation of powers of the President/PM from the Judiciary, and for Due Process:

another key one is Starmer's support for Equality and Diversity measures as appropriate, measures against hate crime, and the support for the histories of race and women's equality to be not only in libraries (Trump has been censoring books and articles) but in school curriculum.

Gosh there’s some nasty sarcastic people here 😪

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 13-Apr-25 20:28:51

Trump is giving the UK preferential treatment. Starmer should grab it. I hope he does. I hope he doesn’t prevaricate and hitch our wagon to the EU. Time will tell but so far he’s playing a blinder Wyllow don’t you agree?

If that applies to women too I must be well beyond the pale.

I was good friends with a person who was tried and convicted of grooming and assaulting children. They are still serving a sentence now.

Needless (I hope) to say, I had no idea that all this was going on and I had no part in it. Being friends with someone does not made you an accessory.

It is very unwise and hateful to jump to conclusions on the basis of a stupid old saying.

In what way is Trump giving the UK preferential treatment? We have the 10% tariff and 25% on vehicles, the same as all other countries except China - unless he’s changed the rules again today?

Wyllow3 Sun 13-Apr-25 20:54:41

I'm sorry I got cross FGT, (yes it was sarcastic Grannylynj but there is a bit of a history of crossing swords that FCT and I both know all too well 🙂)

My opinion is that our future lies in trade/security alliances with Europe and Canada.
