........er, like who?

Calendargirl Tue 15-Apr-25 09:59:23

I’ve heard of her, but that’s about it, no idea what she sings or anything.

She was on the News after her trip, waffling on about ‘love’ and suchlike.

hmm

A female relative was on the short list for space exploration. She was a nuclear scientist. Training was to become an astronaut

Katy Perry is just a person with plenty of money, someone who does not care about destroying our planet

Why not? I bet it was an amazing experience, and her fare contributed to the cost of the mission. Good for her I say.

They did keep calling them 'the crew' on the news, though 😁
I hoped there was someone on board who knew what they were doing, not just pop stars etc.

There was a former NASA rocket scientist on board, Aisha Bowe along with Amanda Nguyen a bioastronautics research scientist.
Thank you, GrannyGravy, they're the ones who should be getting the publicity, women to inspire the next generation of girls, rather than pop stars.

This in today’s Telegraph made me laugh!

FGT2 😂😂😂

TheWeirdoAgain1 Tue 15-Apr-25 10:13:31

I don't really know who she is so I Googled the story, but good on her and all the other amazing ladies, they all looked great, happy and beautiful and I love their outfits!

They're helping to get more women interested in space things and into the training programs, so that's a good thing.

In Mae13's case l think it's to prompt provoke the maximum response. The success rate is generally high 😉

Well, it's a great subject for a thread 👩‍🚀

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 15-Apr-25 10:17:18

All that money & tech, plus materials, emissions for an 11 minute jolly. It’s what you do I suppose when you’re one of the richest men on the planet. Financial assets in the stratosphere. We can only watch such ‘fun’.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 15-Apr-25 10:24:23

Has anyone called them "The Space Girls" yet ? 😂

Allira Tue 15-Apr-25 10:28:37

😂😂😂
I Wannabee a Spacegirl

“I’ll tell you what I want what I really really want” 🎵 🎶

Well I want a new car. Himself would love a hybrid. Not gonna happen though!

Marg75 Tue 15-Apr-25 10:50:26

I like Katie Perry, she's a very feisty young woman, like I was many, many moons ago smile

MaizieD Tue 15-Apr-25 11:05:32

So I'm imagining, then, that women have been training as astronauts and going into space for decades. One of the first people in space in the 1960s was a woman... There was a woman stranded in space on the Space Station rather recently...

The extreme interest of the obscenely wealthy in space is driven by the hope that when they have destroyed out planet they can take refuge on another one. And of course, there is always the possibility of extracting more wealth, in the form of rare minerals, as they become in sort supply on Earth, from other planets.

Anniebach Tue 15-Apr-25 11:08:34

Obscenely wealthy , when does having wealth become obscene ?

Maybe when extremely rich people don’t use at least some of it for ‘good’, like Bill Gates and his endeavours to fund a vaccine for malaria.

Anniebach Tue 15-Apr-25 11:19:38

Katy Perry is as wealthy as Bill Gates

Parsley3 Tue 15-Apr-25 11:19:49

With space rocket launches becoming more frequent there must be some impact on the health of our planet.

Katy Perry is as wealthy as Bill Gates

Are you sure about that?

GrannyGravy13 Tue 15-Apr-25 11:23:13

Ladyleftfieldlover a Quick Look online shows how much Katy Perry supports charities, AIDS, UNICEF and several others.

Many rich people support and donate to charities without publicising it.

Anniebach Tue 15-Apr-25 11:25:08

I didn’t know who Katy Perry was but such criticism!

Don’t be silly. Katy Perry is worth $350 million
That’s pocket money to Bill Gates.

I bet Ann Summers will have battery powered blue “rockets” based on the rather obvious design of the ladies’ spacecraft!

Norah Tue 15-Apr-25 11:48:48

I assume they paid - their money, their voyage.

I hadn't heard of these women, but I read about them. Interesting group.

Aisha Bowe, a former NASA rocket scientist, CEO of engineering firm STEMBoard and founder of LINGO, which teaches students technology skills.

Amanda Nguyen, a prominent civil rights activist and bioastronautics research scientist who worked on the last NASA space shuttle mission, STS-135, and the U.S. space agency's exoplanet-hunting Kepler space telescope.

Gayle King, a journalist and television personality best known as a co-host of "CBS Mornings."

Katy Perry, a pop music artist and former host of "American Idol."

Kerianne Flynn, a film producer known for her contributions to "This Changes Everything," a 2018 documentary about sexism in Hollywood.

Lauren Sánchez, an Emmy Award-winning journalist who is the fiancée of Amazon's Bezos.

SueDonim Tue 15-Apr-25 11:50:12

Omg, they saw the moon! The moon! Get that folks, all that way in a penis-shaped object to see the MOON!

Did anyone else see the video of Bezos falling into a hole at the landing site? Very funny!

The shape of the rocket New Shepherd Rocket is for sensible reasons.

The bulbous capsule at the top is for humans, and the larger top increases stability on decent.
