makes me think that maybe he doesn't want to stop the war, he's just tapping me along
I laughed out loud when I read that Trump wrote this.
No Sh*t Sherlock.
It’s been a while so I will start us off…….whats for supper and why?
Well, he’s threatened to, if agreements cant be reached. Whether that is a clear intention or a gambit remains to be seen.
It would presumably mean both ending military aid but also giving up all the tortuous negotiations and demands on mineral rights?
At he moment we have an “easter Truce” ending tonight, although Zelensky has said there have been breaches.
There are a lot of conversations including European leaders going on behind closed doors
From BBC timeline
“We're not privy to all the conversations taking place behind closed doors.
What we do know is that President Donald Trump was growing impatient at the lack of progress on a Ukraine peace deal. He’d been keen for some kind of truce to be announced.
Let's see what happens when Putin's "Easter truce" expires at midnight local time tonight.
Whether there will be continued efforts from all parties to continue the conversation and push towards a wider agreement.
The major sticking point remains: how and on what terms to end the war in Ukraine.
Up until now Vladimir Putin has shown little sign of being willing to compromise. His demands haven't changed - as far as we can tell - since his so-called peace proposal of June last year.
Under that, Russia would keep all the Ukrainian regions it has occupied, while territory still under Ukrainian control in those regions would be handed to Moscow
(Zelensky can never agree to that!)
“So, we need to wait, follow events to see whether this small step Putin has taken leads to anything more substantial.”

He thinks he's "different" alright but not for the reasons many do
.
A CNN analysis was entitled
"Analysis: Putin has outmanoeuvred a host of US presidents. Trump is only the latest.
edition.cnn.com/2025/04/26/europe/trump-putin-russia-ukraine-history-analysis/index.html
Includes:
“I would say the negotiations are going very well — from Putin’s point of view,” Angela Stent, a foreign policy expert and former national intelligence officer for Russia and Eurasia at the National Intelligence Council, told CNN.
“He has no intention of stopping the war, but what he wants, and what he’s getting, is a restoration of US-Russian diplomatic relations.”
I think Trump really did think he was "different" and past events didn't count
If he really means what he says maybe the penny has dropped at last. Could he really have been the only one who didn't realise that Putin has just been tapping him along?
Trump after the meeting in the Vatican with Zelensky has got frustrated with the Russians
"Donald Trump has questioned Vladimir Putin's willingness to end the war in Ukraine following his meeting with the country's leader Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of Pope Francis's funeral.
Writing on his Truth Social account, Trump said the Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities "makes me think that maybe he doesn't want to stop the war, he's just tapping me along, and has to be dealt with differently, through 'Banking' or 'Secondary Sanctions ?
Earlier in the day Trump and Zelensky were seen in deep discussion in St Peter's Basilica shortly before the funeral began.
The White House described the 15-minute meeting with Zelensky as "very productive". The Ukrainian president said it had the "potential to become historic".
He's realising what Putin is really like?
(from BBC I player)
Somehow I doubt they are close to anything.
He went on today about some peace in Africa he has achieved. I haven't looked yet, so I have no clue what he is talking about.
Just like his 200 "trade deals" boast, he is full of nothing but hot air. No proof of anything, they just take his word for it n
No specific news coming out of todays negotiations - except clearly lots of stuff going on under the surface - the US clearly doesn't want to let go of the rare minerals!
"As the meeting between Witkoff and Putin was taking place, Trump claimed talks were going in the right direction.
"They're meeting with Putin right now, as we speak, and we have a lot of things going on, and I think in the end we're going to end up with a lot of good deals, including tariff deals and trade deals," he told reporters in the US.
He said his aim was to bring about an end to fighting in Ukraine which was claiming the lives of 5,000 Ukrainian and Russians a week, adding he believed "we're pretty close" to a peace deal.
Writing on Truth Social later, Trump said Zelensky had not signed the "final papers on the very important Rare Earths Deal with the United States".
"It is at least three weeks late," he said, adding that he hoped it would be signed "immediately"."
(wise man, Zelensky, dont sign it as its your bargaining chip!)

BBC News - Ukraine may have to give up land for peace - Kyiv Mayor Klitschko - BBC News
www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cp348ygjgy3o
This is a very interesting interview with the mayor of Kyiv. In the sound bite of him saying, very reluctantly, that Ukraine may have to give up land for peace he makes it very clear that this would only be considered as a temporary measure.

How on earth can a peace deal be negotiated when one of the states are left out of the talks!
Yes - "key meeting" just started between Putin and Witkoff.
Trump:
"Yesterday, Trump said that he has "nothing to do with Crimea" after meeting Norway's Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. Instead, he said the contentious issue was "given" to him by former US President Barack Obama
As a reminder, Crimea is a southern peninsula of Ukraine that was illegally annexed by Russia in 2014. Ukraine's President Zelensky has repeatedly rejected the idea of recognising the region as Russian.
This week, Trump hit out at Zelensky, saying "if he wants Crimea, why didn’t they fight for it eleven years ago?"
In the same interview, external the US president put blame on Kyiv for starting the war with Russia, saying: “I think what caused the war to start was when they started talking about joining Nato."
Or lunch with Mrs H.

As for his chosen Defence supremo, one can only recoil in shock

I hope Trump thinks long and harder tactically than on most situations and consults his military people before closing bases in UK and Europe.
I found a month old article in the Telegraph that suggested he might be considering moving troops from Germany to Hungary where one of his bessie mates Orban is in charge (for what you have to ask) - it has a small border with the Ukraine as well as a huge one with Belarus, another Russia buddy.
I don't think he's done with trying to meddle in matters at all.
I do t hold much hope for the current peace plan neither, Putin or Zelensky are in favour, Russia seems to hold all the cards and really doesn’t want western troops in Ukraine after any ceasefire.
Putin isnt listening to Trump.
More deadly attacks - 12 killed in Kyiv yesterday
Trump said he has his own deadline, that is 30th April (100 says in office)
Meanwhile a headline in Telegraph that Starmer challenges the peace plan and there are plans for more arms and limited UK troop support (backroom training stuff) He also said that in any peace the US would have to be involved in security guarantees not just Europe (well especially if the US are to do mining and control the nuclear power plant.

only reason even
talks about it because he can get nobal prize
as dumb as he is probably thinks it comes from usa

Exactly
Diddums is sulking because Ukraine is standing firm and the Orange Man-child really wanted a Nobel Peace Prize.
So tantrums all round.
US President Donald Trump has said he is "not happy" with deadly Russian strikes on Kyiv and that President Vladimir Putin should "stop".
"Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP! 5,000 soldiers a week are dying. Let's get the Peace Deal DONE!" he said in a post on Truth Social.
From BBC news
I am sure Vlad will be suitably chastised.
Would even the Uk send it's children to fight in Ukraine?
Front line fighting that is?

I wouldnt put it past Trump to try and tie economic deals with support (or not) with Ukraine. He's got himself into a right mess with all the promises to 'sort it".
If the US just pulls out then bye bye to all those minerals he wanted.
- and bye bye to power in the region. Or should I say "our region?".
All the US military bases in Europe....unless he is prepared to let the lot go?
We’ve seen so many U turns it’s unpredictable what his aim is, the US pulling out forces from Europe would save him a lot of money. Europe would be forced to spend a similar amount to fill the gap to deter Russia.
That’s really bad for us, it’s up to us to change our priorities to find the money to rearm, we can do that if needed, double defense spending, less on other things. My big worry is will Europe as a whole contribute.

What will Trump do? Does he even know himself from day to day? Does anybody else think that he has begun his dementia journey?
