Please don’t feel sad. He is in Heaven, Be glad he knew he had a place with the Heavenly Father. Blesses to all.

How lovely annamarie.

I suppose that’s the comfort that a religious faith gives you and, conversely, what I miss from my lack of faith. To me death is the end…

What a beautiful day for the funeral service - absolutely stunning photos from sky and bbc tv… and of course the number of dignitaries from across the world…
Am pleased to see the wearing of the mantilla by some of the ladies; so respectful and as a family, we always had to wear a head covering to mass, even when the church relaxed the rules,
Mother said show respect!

So true Bea - and not baking hot either!

Bea65 Sat 26-Apr-25 09:41:21

NotSpaghetti not wishing to bash ‘ anyone, but doesn’t President Trump own a black suit. Apparently the dress code was quite strict according to the TV presenters who said even down to the jewellery the ladies could wear?

Prince William not wearing black.
It's the modern acceptable.

NotSpaghetti Sat 26-Apr-25 09:45:13

There is someone on the dias in navy blue too

NotSpaghetti Sat 26-Apr-25 09:47:58

Trump sticks out though because he's near a gap.
I was pleased Zelenskyy was there.

The lady looks splendid - not sure who she is ?

NotSpaghetti Sat 26-Apr-25 10:35:52

Zelenskyy of course is wearing black.

It seems that some of Intercessions were spoken by ordinary people, in ordinary clothes.
I would have liked to have seen more ordinary people at the front really.

What mercy and courage Francis had! He granted an interview to Vance on the last day of his life. Faithful to the last.

Smileless2012 Sat 26-Apr-25 10:42:03

Spontaneous applause when Zelenskyy arrived.

Caleo Sat 26-Apr-25 10:56:58

Bea, this entire thread offends my sensibilities. Francis was a good man.

Comments about mourners' attire are insultingly ignorant when there is much to praise about Francis.

Using the death of a merciful and brave man to complain about religion in general or RC in particular is unbalanced.

These posts lack political comment on how Francis supported the poor and despised of this sad world.

Caleo Sat 26-Apr-25 11:00:30

For goodness sake, pay attention!

Some of you seem to regard a death and mourning as a superficial social event.

lemsip Sat 26-Apr-25 11:02:58

there are very many people not wearing black suits not only William and Trump. lots of grey and navy, look at the television screen and see.
William was in black suit when he paid respects at the coffin!

NotSpaghetti Sat 26-Apr-25 11:05:00

The videography is exceptional.
Such moving and poetic framing.

Wyllow3 Sat 26-Apr-25 11:10:58

The more I read about him the more I hope his successor has the same courage to speak up for the poor and oppressed. And not turn the social change clock back.

NotSpaghetti Sat 26-Apr-25 11:14:47

Agreed Wyllow
I hope they choose someone who travels the same path.

I think some of us treat Gransnet more like our sitting room than a church Caleo it is allowed to chat and comment as we might to friends. Nobody today has been disrespectful of the funeral or the Pope who was, I believe, a singular man.

I am sorry you are offended. I'm sure nobody was trying to offended you.
Apologies if I (we) have.

It’s nice that he was able to appear on the balcony and give a blessing to all those in St Peter’s Square.
But a shame that the last person he talked with was JD Vance.

Actually it wasn’t!
According to todays commentary at his funeral, Pope Francis’s last words were to his male nurse when he asked him whether he was strong enough to make it round St Peter’s Square on Easter Sunday - he answered Yes and pushed him round to greet or take his leave of his people.

NotSpaghetti Sat 26-Apr-25 13:21:29

...and then thanked him afterwards.

Also, I hadn't realised until today how he had continued his daily mass service for the people of his parishes.

Me too Wyllow.

I don’t follow a religion but, on a human level, I think Pope Francis was a very good man and will be missed by the world.

Humanity needs all the good leaders it can get at the moment.

Yes, me too.

I think the Cardinal from the Philippines, Luis Antonio Gokim Tagle, is considered to be quite progressive.
