Yes, SIX votes between Labour and Reform in Runcorn! Couldn't get much tighter!
12,645 Reform
12,639 Labour.
I bet lots of left-leaning voters who didn't bother to vote are kicking themselves today!
Just heard it was TV licence and PIP that were the issues on the doorstep.

Uk Elections today
(303 Posts)I cant see another thread about the subject.
Online newspaper headlines think Labour will suffer[normal for a Party in power] and Reform will do well.
We shall see of course.
Personally, I think Labour are underestimating the strength of feeling in the general public about immigration by boat. And about grooming gangs[white/non white, all of it].
As I was writing this, I think there is growing resentment about Net Zero too. People's energy bills are too high.
All of this has been discussed on this forum before of course.
But I think Labour may be about to see it all played out today.
Fair dos though.
Dame Andrea Jenkins (Reform) is now the first mayor of Greater Lincolnshire.
GrannyGravy13 Excellent choice. Excellent win.
As expected a beating for Labour, gains for Reform, most of whose voters don’t have a clue about policies except for stopping migration.
Scary.

Is her excellent win matched by excellent local policies?
I shall watch the new Reform councillors with interest as their policies are a complete mystery to me at the moment.
The only ones I do hear are policies they would espouse if in government, and when they are asked about these policies they row back on them which is always a bit weird.
For example health insurance, which Farage has always said must be insurance based, but recently one of Reforms MPs denied this.
Brexit is a total busted flush, but Farage continues banging this drum.
And don’t even try to get your head around their economic policies - it is too scary.
I note that Farage is saying that Reform is now the official opposition😄😄. Getting a tad overexcited at regaining an MP and getting back to the heady heights of 5!
He will nevertheless be all over the media like a rash, with very little scrutiny of his policies. The media are doing the voting population no service by continually being so passive when interviewing Farage,
If Reform could stop migration it would possibly be worth it, but they can't any more than anyone else, because of the Human rights laws.
All depends on the quality of these newly elected councillors.

I expect they are terrified.

Your arrogance knows no bounds, does it.
I am no more pro Reform than I am pro Labour.
I remain politically homeless, underwhelmed by the current `Labour cohort, waiting patiently for the Conservatives to regroup…

Much jubilation in that area, yes 6 votes and believe me the ones that could not be bothered will be out in force next time to add to reform. Reform placards were in many front gardens
The main issue was migration.
I have siblings there
If Councillors continue to allign themselves with national parties, people will continue to bear that in mind.
Even in Local Elections.
Why wouldnt they?
That was to no one in particular.

So it is very likely that some voters will be happy to vote for a Trump supporter, a Brexit supporter and a Putin Supporter, and whose economic policies would out-Truss Truss.
Can anyone explain why?Good question WW.
Farage lied about Brexit and, when it was a proven disaster for the UK, he wasn’t even man enough to accept any accountability - it wasn’t his fault!!!
Sadly, people have shown they will vote for liars and snake oil salesmen - Johnson, Trump. Why🤷♀️
FWIW my answer to your question is:
People have short memories; they’ve been indoctrinated by a constant barrage of right wing media & SM against Labour; people expected the new Labour government to change the country overnight; issues such as immigration have been blown out of proportion by SM, MSM & Reform.
Reporting on what Labour are doing, pensioners, PIP, illegal immigration rising, is it all lies then. Business going broke because of Reeves raising NI, joblessness, all lies are they. Think not. It shows the rising anger in places like Grimsby, who only last year elected another Labour MP. Yet they have become sick of this Labour Government in such a short time.
Don’t forget that so far the Tories have lost many more seats than labour.
I still believe this is going to be a much more concerning day for the Tories than it is for Labour. Holding on to three mayoral seats against the odds is good news for Labour, and I’m not surprised at them losing Amesbury’s seat in the circumstances - the seats of disgraced MPs usually do change hands at by elections. As I said earlier in the thread, Labour will be expecting to do poorly, but the Tories badly need to have some good news today, which I hope they get somewhere.

Maybe you can tell us what Reform actually stands for, many would be interested .

Enlighten me.
How would withdrawing from the HRA stop migrants?

It is going to be bad for Tories for sure, the local leader of the Tory group defected to Reform, no result yet but is highly likely to get elected.
The result might overturn the slim Liberal majority, becoming Tory/Reform dominated.
Oh dear. How to win friends and influence people.

You might be surprised to know that there are a large number of voters in Lincolnshire who are very angry at the expansion of solar panel farms.
They also point out that we, the uk should be growing more of our own food while at the same time covering the county that once fed the uk.
Reform overturning a 14,000 majority in Runcorn and Hemsley, no small feat.
petra solar farms on farmland will be a vote loser, site solar panels on car parks, office buildings, industrial buildings and all new builds.
Leave the farmland alone Labour!
I am feeling relieved that we had no local elections here, so that by the time we do Reform will have shown themselves to stand for nothing, especially in my area where we have a very successful and popular Labour council.
Reform will burn out- or turn into a new form of Tory party.
Although I am glad the Tories are suffering just now, their reputation goes before them for crossing over and pandering to the far-right.
Local elections should not be a vote on the national government, but they are an opportunity to protest.
Labour have to wake up and start to make positive changes that impact on people's lives, or else we are doomed...

Why don’t we just vote for consultants and consultancies? That’s all any party does when they get in…….costing ratepayers millions….
How true!
I will be surprised if Reform announce local policies to protect the poor and vulnerable.
Their supporters are primarily interested in controlling immigration, which was also the primary interest of most Brexit supporters.
