Israel to "conquer" Gaza

"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the population of Gaza will be displaced to the south after his security cabinet approved an expanded military operation in the enclave that a minister described as a plan to “conquer” the territory.

The vote on Sunday came hours after the military said it would mobilize tens of thousands of reservists, strengthening its capacity to operate in the besieged Palestinian territory.

“One thing will be clear: there will be no in-and-out,” Netanyahu said in a Monday video message posted on X. “We’ll call up reserves to come, hold territory — we’re not going to enter and then exit the area, only to carry out raids afterward. That’s not the plan. The intention is the opposite.”

The plan would be implemented after US President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East next week to “provide a window of opportunity” for a hostage deal, the official added

"The plan then, is to displace Gaza’s entire population to the south of the enclave, following which the total the blockade of humanitarian aid may be lifted, the official said, adding that the military “will remain in every area it captures.”"

Hamas will never surrender, they are not bothered.

Allsorts Fri 16-May-25 07:04:51

Obviously some people do not believe the Red Cross and to say you know nothing about journalist banned in Israel is unbelievable it makes you wonder what news they do watch and how little they want to understand the plight of people been driven from their land by a superior fighting force.. I am a Christian but if I wasn't in the name of humanity this is against everything a fair person belueves in. Is this the way the majority of Jews think, their way despite the bloodshed?

the question I ask myself is why would Israel ban foreign reporters from Gaza

Your point about the way Nick Ut’s photograph of the little girl burned by Napalm helped change the attitude of many Americans to the war is well made foxie48.

My impression from phone ins and interviews with govt ministers suggests attitudes are changing and Israel losing support

Just what hamas are hoping for Iam64 indeed banking on.

The only weapon Hamas has got is propaganda the more graphic the better, you can be sure that they are promoting most of the scenes we are seeing.

Many are outraged by the suffering shown, we can expect it to get worse when food runs out, Israel is a pariah it most countries but as long as they have the backing of the US they will continue their aid plan.

Of course Hamas could surrender and end the suffering.

I cannot find any mention of international journalists being banned from Israel , will someone post a link , thank you

Wyllow3 Thu 15-May-25 22:10:54

If you silence international journalists

the world notices

Then you refuse to hear voices who try to speak out, calling them all terrorists or terror controlled, but some do get through, and some pictures get through

the world notices even more

Why did Netanyahu silence the worlds journalists?

foxie48 Thu 15-May-25 21:53:20

Netanyahu's govt is losing support in Israel as well as internationally. Perhaps it's because people disapprove of the way it's conducting the war in Gaza.

When were foreign journalists banned in Israel ?

Right from the very start ie 07/10/23 it is usual practice for foreign journalists to have access and protection but Israel has taken a different stance meaning only Palestinian journalists are able to relay information. This, of course, means that Israel can claim that any news that is released and is not part of the Israeli official channel can be said to be Hamas propaganda and discredited. Lots of people accept this as the truth, tbh I suspect that is your view, but if you don't and have an open mind then I apologise.
The committee to protect Journalists has stated the following:
As of May 14, 2025, CPJ’s preliminary investigations showed at least 179 journalists and media workers were among the more than tens of thousands killed in Gaza, the West Bank, Israel, and Lebanon since the war began, making it the deadliest period for journalists since CPJ began gathering data in 1992.
Journalists are important in ensuring that the rules of war are observed.
Nick Ut's photo of Napalm girl helped to change the attitude of Americans to the Vietnam war, journalism is equally capable of changing the minds of people. the question I ask myself is why would Israel ban foreign reporters from Gaza?

Not to mention aid workers sad

What I find difficult to understand is why people find it impossible to believe there are honest decent people living in Gaza who are telling the truth about their experiences during this war, yet those same people are willing to accept everything that comes out of the mouthpiece of the Israeli government. I can post links to Israeli media that is challenging the governments statements and it's not believed but if Netanyahu says something it's believed. I find that really concerning because it makes me wonder why an honest government bans foreign journalists.

👏👏👏

I’m so horrified by what’s happening that I’m pretty much blanking it out of my mind because I feel totally helpless sad.

Looking at the BBC reports why are Gazans paying for food, how are they paying for food.

Israel does mean to use food to force a surrender in Gaza, why would anyone doubt that.

Anniebach Thu 15-May-25 17:30:15

Yes, I said unusual

Smileless2012 Thu 15-May-25 17:26:51

Unusual but I would think not impossible.

Whitewave would you tell more about your statement
“Many Israelis look on Palestinians as less than human”
Thank you
I don’t have any up to date knowledge, but on a tour around Jerusalem in the 70s our tour guide referred to Palestinians as ‘dirty animals’. I cannot express how shocked I was and feel angry with my young self for not saying something.

That was so very unusual. Tour guides are usually employed and their employers would have sacked him/her, I knew people of different faiths and nationalities who visited Jerusalem .

annie what would satisfy you regards the reporting from Gaza?

Wyllow3 Thu 15-May-25 15:46:44

And at the moment I feel dreadfully sad about this decades old conflict that divides us here as well as the realities.

Israeli air strikes have killed 103 people in Gaza since midnight, according to the Hamas-run civil defence agency
The air strikes came as Israel's 10-week blockade on aid entering Gaza continues - our correspondent in Jerusalem, Yolande Knell, looks at Israel's reasons for the blockade here
We're reporting people's stories inside Gaza all day - here's some of what we've heard so far
Israel does not allow journalists to enter Gaza, so we're being sent messages, voice notes and pictures from those living there

BBC repeats whatever is sent

The same news story - Israel bombing gaza and footage, was reported on Sky, CNN, and Fox news.

Yes , do they find all their news in messages and videos

I honestly feel we can only make our own minds up from todays BBC news feed.

The latest entry is from families of Israeli hostages.

There is also a map of proposed secure distribution sites.
