Israel to "conquer" Gaza

"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the population of Gaza will be displaced to the south after his security cabinet approved an expanded military operation in the enclave that a minister described as a plan to “conquer” the territory.

The vote on Sunday came hours after the military said it would mobilize tens of thousands of reservists, strengthening its capacity to operate in the besieged Palestinian territory.

“One thing will be clear: there will be no in-and-out,” Netanyahu said in a Monday video message posted on X. “We’ll call up reserves to come, hold territory — we’re not going to enter and then exit the area, only to carry out raids afterward. That’s not the plan. The intention is the opposite.”

The plan would be implemented after US President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East next week to “provide a window of opportunity” for a hostage deal, the official added

"The plan then, is to displace Gaza’s entire population to the south of the enclave, following which the total the blockade of humanitarian aid may be lifted, the official said, adding that the military “will remain in every area it captures.”"

If this is not stopped it will be one of the most shameful episodes in modern history. Absolutely nothing of this is either humane or legal.

JamesandJon33 Tue 06-May-25 05:13:25

I do not understand why the people of Israel, are doing to the Palestinians, virtually what was done to them in the Holocaust.

ronib Tue 06-May-25 07:24:27

I don’t think we’re seeing the whole picture here.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 06-May-25 07:27:26

The price of giving up your homeland and everything you’ve known, loved and owned?

$1000 apparently

Whitewavemark2 Tue 06-May-25 07:29:45

Please ignore this last post - it is incorrect.

Smileless2012 Tue 06-May-25 08:45:10

I think we've already seen one of the most shameful episodes in modern history Whitewavemark and this will simply be a continuation of it.

All aid has now stopped they are planning to starve Gaza into submission, mediaeval yes, but they tried every other way. Hamas could surrender and save lives but they won’t, this is all about the survival of Hamas.

This is how it seems to me too.

This is still about Hamas refusing to return the hostages they hold.
Nothing humane or legal on either side.

Hamas are holding the whole of the Gaza population to ransom, and the Israeli government is using that to ‘justify’ taking the actions they have long wanted to make.

Meanwhile Palestinians are turning against Hamas and Israelies are demonstrating against their government. Jamesandjon this has little to do with the people of either place, just the extremists.

No, six million Jews were murdered because they were Jews,
people in Gaza have died because the government attacked Israel

Listening to Netanyahu this morning, not his minister, he stated the Gazan people were being moved for their own safety, their aim is to Release the remaining hostages, alive or possibly dead, knowing Hamas. Just think on this would not have happened if Hamas hadn't stopped releasing hostages. The blame ließ with them.

Anniebach Tue 06-May-25 09:24:04

“Wyllow” said Netanyahu said differently!

Quoting from more of the article

"Gaza annexation not ruled out
Meanwhile, Israel’s far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said Monday that “we are finally going to conquer the Gaza Strip.”

Annexing Gaza is a possibility, and once the military expands its operations in the enclave, it will not pull back – even if Hamas agrees to a new hostage deal, he said at a conference in Jerusalem, referring to the security cabinet decision on Sunday.

“Once we conquer and stay – we can talk about sovereignty (over Gaza). But I didn’t demand that it be included in the war’s objectives,” he added.

“Once the maneuver begins – there will be no withdrawal from the territories we’ve captured, not even in exchange for hostages.”

You're comparing apples and pears, not apples and apples.

There's no evidence of gas chambers, human medical experimenting and other atrocities.

I'm not trivialising the current situation in any way - it's horrific, but it isn't the same as the Holocaust.

The CNN article doesn't elaborate on the distribution of food and other aid. The BBC I player article however does allude briefly to it

"Aid agencies have warned that with no change in policy, mass starvation is imminent.

They have also condemned Israel's proposal to deliver aid through private companies at military hubs, saying it would be a breach of basic humanitarian principles and that they would not co-operate

If they are only going to allow food in distributed at military hubs, it has to mean continued occupation?

There was more information on this in the Washington Post as regards the military contractors who would be in charge - they are from the USA

"As reported by the Washington Post, the contractors will be supplied by UG Solutions and Safe Reach Solutions — the same American contractors previously involved in checkpoint and security maintenance in the Gaza Strip during the since-broken ceasefire, as Axios reported back in January".

What we need to know from Netanyahu - and his ministers - is what will happen in Gaza if the hostages are returned as regards military presence and food aid distribution and whether they will still push Gaza's to a small area in the south. There is silence on this.

Very quickly the only food in Gaza will be on the Israeli side of the front line, I’m not sure how they will allow refugees through, there will have to be safe corridors, will Hamas allow civilians to leave?.

I don’t think the Israeli government has to let the world know exactly what they will do, dealing with hamas is hard enough withiut telling them what will happen.

Oreo Tue 06-May-25 11:15:00

If the Israelis or people of their choosing deliver food aid then hamas can’t control it, seems the better way to go to me.

I agree ferry23 and high time these Nazi comparisons stopped appearing on this site.

Just issuing an ultimatum will not bring peace. Surely an "if you give up the hostages then".....is necessary for any negotiations.

Oreo Tue 06-May-25 11:18:16

Hopefully this is getting near to the end of this conflict and the more Gazans who turn on hamas now, the better.
