Israel to "conquer" Gaza

"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the population of Gaza will be displaced to the south after his security cabinet approved an expanded military operation in the enclave that a minister described as a plan to “conquer” the territory.

The vote on Sunday came hours after the military said it would mobilize tens of thousands of reservists, strengthening its capacity to operate in the besieged Palestinian territory.

“One thing will be clear: there will be no in-and-out,” Netanyahu said in a Monday video message posted on X. “We’ll call up reserves to come, hold territory — we’re not going to enter and then exit the area, only to carry out raids afterward. That’s not the plan. The intention is the opposite.”

The plan would be implemented after US President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East next week to “provide a window of opportunity” for a hostage deal, the official added

"The plan then, is to displace Gaza’s entire population to the south of the enclave, following which the total the blockade of humanitarian aid may be lifted, the official said, adding that the military “will remain in every area it captures.”"

I can’t do links either so also my thanks Wyllow. I caught the end of the radio programme this afternoon foxie and will look for it on iplayer .i am a regular r4 listener.
Watching the new pope and was heartened when he talked about Gaza and it got the biggest applause.

silverlining48 Sun 11-May-25 18:53:58

Yes Susytish many saw it. Louis Theroux didn’t have to do much other than just let the settlers say and do what they wanted, while watched on by the IDF who did nothing to prevent the violence.
The whole thing was chilling, especially the gran leading the settlers.

For anyone who wants to understand more about the history of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict BBC radio 4 has a series called "Indispensable Relations". the second part was on this afternoon and it takes a close look at the influence that the US has had in the Middle East with regard to Israel. Obviously not for anyone who believes the BBC is an antisemitic mouthpiece for the Lefties but for the rest of us, I found it thoughtful and informative.

He talks about the end of WW2 and asks for an end to conflict including directly alluding to Gaza. He doesn't take sides but addresses those in power.

Has anyone watched 'The Settlers' with Louis Theroux? Also other films about Gaza/Israel?
I feel the extreme Zionists want the whole of Gaza and the West Bank. They look on it as their right.
It is all so sad and upsetting, and there are lots of factors in play, including the extreme relgious right in the USA.

Very worth a watch, his first address to the world.

The pope has called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

A headline in todays Guardian: and a picture, which all should view, of a tiny starving baby.

"There is suffering everywhere you look, says mother of emaciated baby girl trapped in Gaza
Babies such as Siwar Ashour are suffering from malnutrition as crucial supplies run out amid Israel’s total blockade on aid"

I beg you all to read the article about one families experiences.

Palistinians cannot be blamed for centuries of dislike of the Jews. You can blame Europeans and others for that.

As for the Hamas and the Jews, Jews have also clearly stated in their words and deeds that they want to rid Palistine of the palistinians., but you have never seemed at all bothered about that.

Re your question about why it’s mostly women and children being killed, which I have answered you previously, it’s because 40% of the population are children, so about 30% are women, 30% of men, which makes 70% nearly three quarters of the population, are women and children.
Hence more womend children are killed and maimed. It can’t be any clearer.

This from you this morning Whitewave it speaks volumes
to me .

‘The fact that many Israelis look upon the Palestinians as less than human and are now planning to ghettoise them speaks volumes to me.”

Whitewavemark2 Sun 11-May-25 13:56:46

One thing for sure annie you could never take part in any peace process with such an intransigent attitude.

Anniebach Sun 11-May-25 13:48:27

And the stated aim of Hamas , to kill all Jews on earth

foxie48 Sun 11-May-25 13:45:13

Just to make it clear, this post is not about ranking despicable acts of terrorism ie how many knee capping = a rape etc and I do not condone any of the atrocities committed by Hamas on 7/10. However, closer to home we had the troubles in NI following difficult negotiations known terrorists have taken up positions of authority in government. In Israel, terrorists have become the PM of Israel, the Mau Mau in Kenya were instrumental in bringing about independence from the UK and members of the Mau Mau held important positions. There have been numerous terrorist groups that have fought for either a change in government or independence from another country and ultimately it is negotiations that result in peace, often after a lot of bloodshed, rather than success in killing every terrorist. Israel's stated aim to wipe out Hamas is totally unrealistic and unachievable ultimately this dreadful war will end as a result of negotiations.

Anniebach Sun 11-May-25 13:37:04

You mean for centuries, Jews

silverlining48 Sun 11-May-25 13:30:20

We do know that Annie, you are missing the point. Whatever we think he was regarded by the SA white government as a dangerous terrorist and spent years in prison, but to many others he was fighting for freedom and human rights for his people.

Now which other group have been trying to do the same thing for the last 80 years…..

Anniebach Sun 11-May-25 13:04:43

Yes and his release in 1990 was unconditional, he was awarded the Ghandi peace prize, Nobel peace prize and over 200 awards

Mandela was sentenced to 27 years in Robben Island, life in
Versta prison, for sabotage not rape or murder

He was imprisoned for political reasons.

silverlining48 Sun 11-May-25 11:44:22

Well unfortunately I never met Nelson Mandela, it would have been a honour.
Nonetheless he was termed a terrorist by the SA government and was imprisoned in high security for I think 25 years. I watched as he was released and listened to what he said and was impressed with his obvious decency.
He and Desmond TuTu have always had my respect and admiration.

It’s just too easy to label certain groups terrorists when they are seeking fair treatment and freedom which Mandela and so many others have fought for.

As with SA and Northern Ireland the only way to end conflict is to talk to the other side, however hard that may be, not murder, starve and maim them day in day out, month in month out, year in year out.
All that will do is serve as a recruiting sergeant for upcoming generations of those who lost lives, land, liberty, homes and possessions. Their everything.

Anniebach Sun 11-May-25 11:34:26

Doubt there can ever be peace, a post this morning states
many “Israelis look down on Palestinians as less than human, fact.”
