"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the population of Gaza will be displaced to the south after his security cabinet approved an expanded military operation in the enclave that a minister described as a plan to “conquer” the territory.
The vote on Sunday came hours after the military said it would mobilize tens of thousands of reservists, strengthening its capacity to operate in the besieged Palestinian territory.
“One thing will be clear: there will be no in-and-out,” Netanyahu said in a Monday video message posted on X. “We’ll call up reserves to come, hold territory — we’re not going to enter and then exit the area, only to carry out raids afterward. That’s not the plan. The intention is the opposite.”
The plan would be implemented after US President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East next week to “provide a window of opportunity” for a hostage deal, the official added
"The plan then, is to displace Gaza’s entire population to the south of the enclave, following which the total the blockade of humanitarian aid may be lifted, the official said, adding that the military “will remain in every area it captures.”"

Wyllow3 pure speculation on your part that Israel would have had a war in Gaza with hamas anyway so not worth discussing.A terrible event happened and sparked this whole conflict and as Petra says, nobody would have died if hamas had stayed in Gaza.They had what they wanted, control of Gaza and power but it wasn’t enough for them.
How was it that Israeli conscripts whose job was to spot any activity, reported unusual activity in the area over the weeks before 7 October 2023. The Hamas preparations must have been fairly obvious yet reports of this unexpected activity appear to have been ignored,
Why did it take 7 or 8 hours before Israeli soldiers eventually arrived on the scene on the 7 October 2023. Given it was a border area covered by checkpoints, the army wasn’t far. There would have been many calls for help from dawn onwards, when it all began. Why did it take so long fir the Israeli army to get to the scene.

It's impossible to look back and be certain, but had October 7th not happened, I think its possible there would have been another trigger. Relationships were at fever pitch.
Israeli intelligence, often regarded as second to none, would have been well aware of the tunnels and other preparations for conflict in Gaza: there had been military style exercises since 2020.
Sadly I think we would still have found ourselves in a war situation.
I would like to know Wyllow3 what are the New Testament texts that support war and annihilation? Certainly in the Old Testament God command Israel to kill and drive out a number of different "nations". The Amorites, Hittites, Jebusites, Perizzites, Hivites, Girgashites, and the Canaanites being those who occupied this part of land before Israel kick them out. These people were not who you would want as your next door neighbours. Child sacrifice being one of the nastier practises. According to the OT these people had over 400 years to change, they didn't, so God used His chosen people to get rid. Good riddance in my book. But that was OT times. Yes wars have been fought in the name of Christianity. But do the research about the main players, where they really Christians? Did they really follow the peaceful teaching of Jesus? Were they just trying to protect to weak and innocent or really just using violence for their own ends? Unfortunately there are those who claiming to be Christians have corrupted the message of Jesus. When Peter asked Jesus how many times should he forgive someone did Jesus say perhaps once then cut off his head if they do it again? Jesus never told His disciples to behead those who wronged or disagreed with them. Unlike someone else I could mention. No, Christian teaching does not encourage anyone to go to war, just the opposite, it encourages its follows to speak the truth in love and to try and live at peace with everyone. Unfortunately that is not always possible as there are those who don't want peace.

Yes agreed. People conveniently forget about the dreadful attack on October 7th 2023 and the hostages taken.
Hamas is the problem and the Palestinian Authority are wishing they can now take control of Gaza and get rid of Hamas for good. If the hostages are released all this could be stopped.

He is more interested in staying in power than getting the hostages back.If an election had been called it is reasonable to suppose that Meretz/Labour would have won. The hostages and the talks for their release would have been in much safer hands as the government would have had no interest in prolonging the war, neither would they have pushed to annex Gaza and commit genocide.
Thousands of lives would have been saved and Jewish families not be mourning their lost ones.
And if Hamas hadn’t committed those atrocities on The 7th October 2023 nobody would have died.

No, obviously you don't - you could try to read any good psycologist's work on why abused children turn into abusers when they grow up.
You could also read the history of the Middle East from an Israeli perspective since the state of Israel was created, and actually during the British Mandate of the years between the two world wars and during world war 2.
When you have tried to do this keeping an open mind, then try reading the Palastinian side of the story of those done.
When you get through all this, you may, just may, begin to see how difficult the whole question is.

crowds mocking the hostages on their release, those men did not look malnourished yet on this forum ,at the same time, you can read claims that babies in Gaza are dying from lack of food, There were the crowds applauding as a naked female body of a hostage was driven around Gaza last year
The fact we read daily of the murder of mothers and children,
where are the men ? We have seen videos of many men carrying children into hospitals, very few Mothers. These causes me to question how many are Hamas , I don’t know,
no. one here knows. Suddenly there are shouts against Hamas in Gaza, not previous years!
