Netanyahu won by the smallest margins, and furthered his win by changing the rules and discarded something like 300000 votes which went to the small parties.

So Netanyahu and his allies won with 49% of the vote
The opposition got 48% of the vote.

Since then Netanyahu’s support has been draining away because of his conduct.

Yes Whitewavemark, Netanyahu has to stay in power, for his own survival. To stay in power he needs the support of that right wing element. Any time he makes a move to de-escalate, they threaten to pull down his government, and so he has renaged on deal after deal to release the hostages.
It should have been resolved by now, but for that need of his.

You are right. Almost three quarters of the population of Israel is Jewish. Less than in 1948 but they don't all support Netanyahu.

There are also texts which commend peace and forgiveness and love in all. They get used selectively!

You often see Orthodox Jews joining the support Palestine marches. In the USA they are constantly protesting.

That 'god given land' belief does not stand up to scrutiny. Where would we be, if we all decided we should reverse the migrations of the past 2000 years? There would be no Europeans in the Americas, or Australia? How many of us would actually live in Britain?

The extreme settler movement won 10% of the total votes, and yet run the Netanyahu government. The settler movement is the group that claims Gaza and the West Bank should be entirely Jewish, and given by god.

At least half of the Israeli population is secular, and have no ideological/religious belief in the god given right to the region.

In fact Orthodox Jews believe that they have no claim to any specific land, which is why you see so many protesting against what Netanyahu is doing.

In some ways the war didn't start on Oct 7th, the conflict has been going on for a very long time. The conflict has it's roots in the desire for the destruction of Isreal and the killing of all Jews. So who is committing the genocide? It has been going on long before anyone came up with the idea of creating a Sate of Palestine. It has nothing to do with creating a State of Palestine. If you read the Quran, passages clearly states that Jews and Christians are legitimate targets, it's not open to interpretation, it is very clear. So until these verse are rejected (although I suspect they never will) this conflict will continue. Isreal is actual fighting for its survival. All war is horrendous but unfortunately some times necessary, but while unfounded hatred for another group of people exist, there will be wars & killing of innocent people. Iran with their proxies, such as Hamas and the other groups who hate the Jews have the power to stop all this suffering. Will they? Probably not.

It has been alleged, that for Netanyahu, the issue has been about his survival, and not for that of the Hostages. This allegation has come from some of the Hostage families.

Genocide is defined as the deliberate and systematic destruction of a group of people, such as an ethnic, national, racial or religious group, with the intent to destroy that group in whole or in part.

I agree, we should not compare it to the Holocaust.

You cannot compare the Holocaust to what is happening in Gaza. The scale and inhumanity of the Holocaust is beyond anyone's imagination

I think it's worse, because his is being done to get the land.

In the long report I posted above from CNN on page 4, the last sentence is very significant

“Hamas should get out of the school, they are hiding between the people,” she cried. “Get them out, what’s the fault of the children who are torn apart?”

Her voice is as valid as any voice “from the other side” As valid as voices from Israel “not in my name”.

Hamas is not all Gazan people. How do we make it possible for the many voices like hers to be heard.

Calling it collateral damage is to dehumanise populations whenever it is used on any side. Stories of real suffering come from both sides, we cant value lives of non combatants as lesser.

The war didn’t start on 7th October - the conflicts and hostilities have been going on for a long, long, time.

Truly, it is heart wrenching and intractable in many ways. But both sides have committed war crimes - why is it impossible to see this? Supporting Israel doesn’t need claims they have ever done nothing wrong?

No one who saw the films of the Israeli dead bodies and the hostages being taken and paraded in front of 1000s of cheering happy Gazans can fail to understand why the Israeli government is taking this action. Months ago large sums of money was offered as rewards for the safe return of hostages, not one reward was claimed. Gaza is Hamas and Hamas is Gaza There will never be peace while Hamas exists I’m very sad to say.

No proof, but I am guessing that either the Hamas leaders have no idea where the remaining hostages are being held by their grassroots members, or are not willing to admit that they are all dead.

You have to realise, that having suffered for so long from missiles and attacks from several countries around them, what hamas did on October 7th, murdering over a thousand people and taking over two hundred hostages was the last straw for Israel.Hamas will be decimated if they aren’t more or less already and Gaza razed to accomplish this, just as hezbollah have been humiliated and shown to be weak in Lebanon.
There’s no coming back as a governing force now for hamas.
They must be bitterly regretting what they did.

All you get are lies from the hamas ‘health ministry’ and also what they call ‘civil defence’, they’re all hamas.
It’s only common sense that men are killed and injured if they’re not hamas but the terrorists themselves hide away in hospitals and schools or scurry into tunnels.They leave their own people to fend for themselves.
Photos are staged quite often for maximum sympathy by hamas.The Gazan arm of UN is riddled with hamas.
