Israel to "conquer" Gaza

"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the population of Gaza will be displaced to the south after his security cabinet approved an expanded military operation in the enclave that a minister described as a plan to “conquer” the territory.

The vote on Sunday came hours after the military said it would mobilize tens of thousands of reservists, strengthening its capacity to operate in the besieged Palestinian territory.

“One thing will be clear: there will be no in-and-out,” Netanyahu said in a Monday video message posted on X. “We’ll call up reserves to come, hold territory — we’re not going to enter and then exit the area, only to carry out raids afterward. That’s not the plan. The intention is the opposite.”

The plan would be implemented after US President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East next week to “provide a window of opportunity” for a hostage deal, the official added

"The plan then, is to displace Gaza’s entire population to the south of the enclave, following which the total the blockade of humanitarian aid may be lifted, the official said, adding that the military “will remain in every area it captures.”"

Rubbish*David*. The Israelis are not suffering like the Gazans, Americans, living in Montana or Florida didn't suffer like the Vietnamese, the Iraqis, the Afghans etc. In the first and second WW, British civilians didn't starve or get trench foot! The Americans destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki but Japanese civilians living on other islands were largely unaffected. Everyone in Gaza is affected by this war. Every single human in Gaza, whether they support Hamas or not and they cannot escape the bombs and the relentless violence.

Civilians suffer far more than combatants in every war it never changes, very often from starvation and disease, made worse by fanatics that would not accept defeat - Germany, Japan, Gaza. Genocide, they’ve all done it, including the US, Russia and UK.

Yes, it distresses me like that foxie - that's the human side of whats being proposed in the O/P.

valdavi Tue 06-May-25 19:32:32

It does distress me foxie48, but "nothing" seems to get through the wall.
I hope nothing ever does, because it would have to be very terrible, and I don't trust Netanyahu not to descend to those depths, especially with Trump enabling him.

foxie48 Tue 06-May-25 19:20:39

Does anyone still believe that Israel's actions in Gaza are justified? If you do, then I have no words to change your mind because I think "nothing" would change your mind. It wouldn't matter how many children were blown up, how many medics were killed on their way to give help to injured people, how many journalists trying to get news of the atrocities being committed in Gaza got shot, you will always believe that every man, woman and child in Gaza is part of Hamas and therefore it doesn't matter if they are killed. It won't matter how many deaths, what degree of starvation, what degradation is inflicted on Gazans by the IDF, it will always be justified. You will support crimes against humanity because basically, you don't believe Gazans are like you and because they are not like you, it doesn't matter what they have to endure, their suffering is deserved because back in 2006, nearly 20 years ago, by a very narrow margin, Gazans voted against a corrupt PA and voted for Hamas so they deserve everything they are getting.

Jordan and Egypt were offered the costs of taking more refugees so it wasn't that.

Why make it complicated? Egypt & Jordan have said they won't accept Palestinians as they refuse to be cpomplicit in ethnic cleansing.
In the circumstances we can all see that's a valid reason. Why make up others to fit our own agenda?

A reason originally given when Trump first discussed it and they refused simply that both countries already have large numbers of very long standing Palestinian refugees and simply cannot take anymore.

Maremia Tue 06-May-25 18:07:51

Okay GNs, if the mass, unending of killing of women and children and doctors and nurses and reporters in Gaza is not ethnic cleansing, then what would you call it?

It suits their agenda to use the ethnic cleansing excuse.

You are joking? Those countries have enough of their own home grown terrorists and don’t want any hamas slipping through, also they don’t want the cost of anymore refugees.

David49 Tue 06-May-25 17:57:52

They fear Hamas

They have enough of their own internal terrorists without Hamas adding to the problem

They simply don’t want them.

South of Gaza not south go Gaza

Wyllow3 Tue 06-May-25 15:55:04

Whatever the ins and outs of any programmes, it remains a fact that some Israelis supported by the current regime are occupying/settling the West Bank:

The proposals outlined in the O/P are also facts, and are to move a whole population to the south go Gaza, with aid given out by US private military contractors, and Trump is backing these moves as he made his intentions quite clear weeks ago.

Smileless2012 Tue 06-May-25 15:47:00

Apologies if I've misunderstood Annie but you seem to be doubting the validity of the 'The Settlers' simply because a previous documentary about Gaza was discredited.

Anniebach Tue 06-May-25 15:31:22

Agree, but if can be done once can be done again,,BBC has now
apologised for another of their programmes, not related to
Gaza

Smileless2012 Tue 06-May-25 15:27:10

One discredited documentary doesn't mean that there's no truth in subsequent ones Annie.

Anniebach Tue 06-May-25 14:51:12

27th February, BBC apologised for the Gaza documentary, April brings a new documentary, don’t give do they

lixy Tue 06-May-25 14:36:45

maremia I did watch ‘The Settlers’.
For me it reinforced:
-that people are very firm in their belief that they are right
- a huge amount of horror is based on random quotes from the Bible
- that Palestinians are treated as second class citizens by the Israeli military.

I thought Louis Theroux did a good job, as always, of allowing people enough space to express their thoughts without judgement.
It wasn’t an easy watch for sure.

AGAA4 Tue 06-May-25 14:36:03

The citizens of the US have long supported Israel but that support is lessening quite a lot and support for Palestinians has risen.
Netanyahu and his entourage are as bad as Hamas and those suffering the most are Palestinians who don't support Hamas.
The support for Netanyahu is diminishing even in the US.

Anniebach Tue 06-May-25 14:33:46

Seems things are changing now , not forgetting when the film
Judgement at Nuremberg was made, early 60’s, many had been. Found guilty and sentenced to life, not one guilty person
was still in jail 1961. Things were changing then ?
