Israel to "conquer" Gaza

"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the population of Gaza will be displaced to the south after his security cabinet approved an expanded military operation in the enclave that a minister described as a plan to “conquer” the territory.

The vote on Sunday came hours after the military said it would mobilize tens of thousands of reservists, strengthening its capacity to operate in the besieged Palestinian territory.

“One thing will be clear: there will be no in-and-out,” Netanyahu said in a Monday video message posted on X. “We’ll call up reserves to come, hold territory — we’re not going to enter and then exit the area, only to carry out raids afterward. That’s not the plan. The intention is the opposite.”

The plan would be implemented after US President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East next week to “provide a window of opportunity” for a hostage deal, the official added

"The plan then, is to displace Gaza’s entire population to the south of the enclave, following which the total the blockade of humanitarian aid may be lifted, the official said, adding that the military “will remain in every area it captures.”"

But it isn’t difficult to work out for ourselves that 10 weeks of no food, water or fuel, is going to begin to starve the population. And understand that it is being used as a weapon.

I think that many people are now well aware how difficult it is to separate the truth from the alternative facts. However, if a person is prepared to take a firm stand of any sort it is easy to back up their opinion by just consulting social media. There are plenty of claims and counter claims available for everything under the sun. Personally, I am finding it increasingly impossible to make up my mind about anything.

British Mosques are urging the prime minister to recognise Palestine.

Tbh I thought that we did. A sovereign state occupied by a foreign power. It has to be that surely?

The media got Trump elected and Johnson, that’s how much you can trust the media yet most lap it up

Gaza has been starved of aid for so long that even with some security gangs or just desperate hordes (non Hamas) are trying or have invaded lorries.

A further complication is that many have no means for cooking, so the flour deliveries are of limited use bakeries now need security.

From BBC timeline.

Water?

"Aid has started entering Gaza, including some drinking water, but fuel has not been included so far. Israel says there is no fuel shortage in Gaza.
Parents in Gaza have told the BBC that after 19 months of war, their children are now used to drinking salty water. Doctors say they’ve seen a rise in serious kidney problems because of this.
“We know it is undrinkable water, and we still drink it,” says Raed al-Zaharneh, a father-of-four in Khan Younis. “We’ve had stomach pain and diarrhoea, but we put up with it. What do we do? We need to drink. There’s no alternative.”

(Israel cut power lines to Gaza’s main desalination plants in March, saying it wanted to pressure Hamas to release its remaining hostages. Since then, the plants’ capacity have dropped significantly)

Meanwhile the bombing continues

"Israel has continued its military offensive with deadly strikes on the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, Deir al-Balah in the centre, and Khan Younis in the south.
The military says it had hit over 75 what it described as "terror targets" in the past day.

This is why we need journalists on the ground - no specifying what these "terrorist targets" are, no warnings given.

Israel should let international journalists into Gaza. Then the world will be able to see what's happening. It is inevitable, sooner or later.

Again, turning it back on Jews, they are in the wrong ?

No one here is turning it back against ‘the Jews’. Posters are reflecting the growing international concern about the actions of this Israeli government.
What do you say about the statement by Britain, Canada, France annie

Surely it would be in Israel's best interest to let foreign journalists in to confirm or deny that Hamas is exaggerating the misery of Palestinian citizens.

The first casualty in war is always truth.

Every combatant in every war has tried to control the truth.

That is why is is so important that journalists from every country is allowed to report freely. But I will be astounded if Netanyahu allows free access for journalists.

Again turning it back , you really don’t understand

Oh I understand annie

It could equally "prove" how damaging Hamas has been.

Oh! I expect Hamas is making it all up! The reality is that Gazans are living in a land of milk and honey and are having a whale of a time in their luxury homes, feasting on the finest caviar!

Get real Anniebach!

I agree, as I also think it will give voice to people in Gaza who don't support Hamas

A year ago Maureen Lipman spoke of Jewish children too afraid to attend school in uniform, Jewish schools being attacked, Jewish graveyards having guards

Wyllow3 Fri 23-May-25 10:43:07

Of course. It is troubling. As if young people dont have enough to cope with on social media.

Any group being marginalised by their cultural identity is going to have an affect on the young

www.youngminds.org.uk/young-person/coping-with-life/islamophobia-and-mental-health/

(young people report they are being suspected of being terrorists and the affect it has)

Anniebach Fri 23-May-25 10:27:21

Yes there are but I am so troubled that anyone feels as those young people feel

Wyllow3 Fri 23-May-25 10:23:37

I accept it was said - its probably possible to find young groups saying entirely different things as there are different POV - as with any population.
