Hundreds and hundreds of young men living in tents inside huge hangar at Calais. Tents everywhere and it stinks. Patrick Christys reporting.

Asking them why they want to come to England. One guy says he is coming because we will give him money and a house., he thinks we are all rich people.

So she didn't have to mix with brown people?

Really?

Are you unaware that many migrants are not as you put it brown people ?

Oh come off it. We all know what's really going on here. I don't think people refer to Ukrainians or Poles as contributing to " a city of strangers"

Maybe not in your mind, but speaking as someone who goes into London frequently, I encounter more Eastern Europeans (including Ukrainians) working in hospitality.

Our business sends vehicles up to London daily, I can assure that on the building sites there are far more Eastern Europeans than (I will use your description once more) brown people

.

The majority of illegal migrants are from safe countries.
.

Are they??

Maremia Wed 14-May-25 18:25:47

But the Government of Brexit did do something. They took us out of the EU where we had the RIGHT to return illegal immigrants.

And of course he wasn't prompted by GB news ...

There’s a regular poster here, who lives in France and recounted recently that she takes French lessons with a few African immigrants to France who really wanted to get to the UK but were stopped from leaving by French authorities. They confidently told her that if they could reach the UK they would be given a house, a car, and a job.

I didn't know that Oreo. Thanks for telling me.

However, my point was really that I strongly suspect GB News of skewing their reports, especially when it comes to immigration. I don't base that on any particular evidence, apart that I doubt we ever get the whole truth from any news media.

That's why 'on the ground' reports like that from the regular poster who teaches French to African immigrants is so valuable. Thank you for pointing it out.

Some years ago, the men in Calais were interviewed and said much the same thing, so this is not some new revelation. The shocking thing is..that successive governments haven't done anything about it. The only conclusion is they actually want them here.
Whatever anyone says, unless we stop being taken for mugs (by this government) it will continue.

Up to almost half of those living in London were born in other countries.Think about it.A city of strangers for sure, so glad we got out when we did.

Why?

It's up to the French Authorities to get this sorted out. The authorities over there do NOTHING!

A year ago, visiting a local riverside pub, we asked the new foreign born barman what he thought of the area. He said he came to the U.K. because he would never have got a job as bar manager in his own country. He said that most people where he came from, believed the U.K. to be the land of ‘milk and honey’. His salary is double the amount he would have earned back home.
Where did he come from? Near Barcelona, Spain.

I do not wish to underestimate the seriousness of this issue. However, the NHS is predominantly used by people 60+, and migrants tend to be young. We are very short on housing stock and schools, this is not because of migration but because of massive under investment of previous govt. And, like all western nations, we are an aging population, in 30 years 27% pop will be 65+. I am utterly baffled by the cessation of visas for care workers, there is a shortage of 100k+. We are not an island of strangers, what IS strange is Labour parroting Reform.

👏👏👏👏👏👏 Well said!

(Sshhhsssh Pinkhousegirl, there are many grans on here who don't want to know real facts ...just the "other kind" of facts spouted by Farage and GB news 🤢)

There is legal migration where the reason is to take up an approved role in the target country, asylum where the person is fleeing torture and threat to life, and migration in general where someone gets on a boat and expects full support when they arrive here.

Criminals must be refused entry at all costs. Anyone not wanting to assimilate by refusing to learn even a smidgen of English, or who wants to introduce culturally alien customs or legal systems should be given one warning and deported on further offence, as should those who commit crime or antisocial behaviour. Women particularly suffer because they cannot speak for themselves in these circumstances and suffer disadvantage in invalid legal systems.

It has to be said that the State should provide training in English and our customs and take a humanitarian view.

For myself, I feel cousin marriage should not be allowed for anybody, and the bringing of brides from foreign lands should be prevented. Some might think it a bit overkill, but again, the woman is at a disadvantage.

Please explain to me the legal routes of migration to this country from countries at war, from countries like Afghanistan?

Cossy, please get real!! There are pensioners in this country who worked in professions which didn’t organise Pensions for their staff. Consequently 1,000s of us struggle. We are NOT a rich country if you have to survive on State Pension with Pension credit added. Its enough certainly but no little extras for us, unless they are are little.

I didn’t say we were rich people, but we are a rich country.

It’s shameful that any citizen of this country should not be able live comfortably and without fear of not being able to pay bills. The reality is we have one of the lowest state pensions in Europe.

It is getting worse than better under Labour so they say.
I don’t know if Australia still only allows those to immigrate if they are finically well off with a kit of finance. Also NZ have a stron immigration policy

Who says?

Cath9 Wed 14-May-25 17:07:38

I have been reading some of your remarks especially about paying the French to control them.
Last year I was watching how they fought back with the French police and so surprised how the French police gave in letting them go. Why didn’t they use rubber bullets to stop them
