Their Fishing rights in our waters were due to end, now they have 12 more years.

Starmer is a political fool. He’s more like a manager than a politician.
Fishermen shafted along with giving in to movement with visas for 18 to 30 year olds amongst other things no doubt.
Farmers shafted, pensioners as well.

Shafted? Why?

He’s doing his best to make sure Farage ends up in number 10.
Maybe he doesn’t like being PM after all.

^So how is it ‘giving away our waters’ … any more than Brexit did?^

Wow! *He did it first so why shouldn’t I?*

Because we are getting something in return. It is what happens in negotiations.

How is an extension of the existing deal ‘giving away our waters’?

”It will be spun by certain media outlets, but it isn’t correct. It is in fact simply an extensions of existing agreement”

Exactly WW.

Fact: the existing agreement, which has been in place since Brexit, comes to an end in 2026. This new agreement is an extension of that same agreement. So how is it ‘giving away our waters’ … any more than Brexit did?

I’m already prepared for the emotive pile-on by the media; interviews with disgruntled fishermen, blah, blah, blah,

Existing terms are in fact being rolled over for 12 years.

The EU linked fishing with an agreement to drop checks and bureaucracy around the sale of food, animal and other agricultural products, known as sanitary and phytosanitary goods. The EU has suggested this should be pegged to the same timescale as fish. So we give some and we gain some.

The defence and security agreement will give the U.K. access to the EU €125bn defence fund.

Its an emotive subject to an island country, it will be seen as a massive betrayal of our fishermen.

No, it won’t. It will be spun by certain media outlets, but it isn’t correct. It is in fact simply an extensions of existing agreement.

In fact fishermen will find it easier to export their fish their fish to the EU, to which most of their catch already goes. because of the SPG agreement.

That is interesting, I will have a more detailed read into it all, thank you for your informative post 🙂

Boris wasn't exactly on the side of our fisherman either, post-Brexit, although he said he would be.

Cossy Mon 19-May-25 09:01:51

Well he’s upset farmers, not fishermen.

Vast amounts of farmers and fishermen vote leave.

We wouldn’t be in this trade mess had we stayed put and we’ve “saved” zero ££££ by leaving this far!

keepingquiet Mon 19-May-25 08:58:18

And he's me thinking it was Farage...

I think he already has.

Whoever thought he wouldn’t?
I think it mentions a 12 year deal but I don’t have details yet.

Please do not give away our fishing waters Starmer!
