I agree WW.

Obviously I’m not a Tory supporter but there have been past Tory MPs who were decent people, and who I admired. They’ve all gone!

I would prefer to see a strong Tory party in opposition than Reform. IMO, if Reform gained any sort of power, it would be the death of this country.

I do wonder how true centrist Tories feel?

I completely agree

Start a movement *gg13g

We do urgently need a counterbalance to the nonsense that is reform.

Suggest a good leader.

That would be me 😹😹😹

I am politically homeless, in the last GE I voted for our incumbent MP who has been pretty good on local matters.

I like Kemi Badenoch, I think she speaks well.Have to say she isn’t the usual sort of leader the Tories go for but a refreshing change.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 20-May-25 09:14:36

The one nation Tory I really mean. They do still exist, and must feel very adrift.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 20-May-25 09:13:57

I think the exact opposite. If they lean to the right then reform will undoubtedly benefit.

They need to provide a home for the right leaning centrist.

She doesn't have to be good or up to it.

She's just the woman the Tories always drop into the hot seat when things are looking bleak. The woman sits out the storm for them, takes the flak and is eternally linked with failure. The moment things look up they slot an old Etonian in to take the glory. It's their way of distancing themselves from negativity.

That might be the truth, could never understand why they elected her over Jenrick, whether he is a prospect now I doubt.
If the Tories want to win back votes from Reform they have to be firmly right leaning, it seems that has dawned on members, they cannot be centrist.

What’s that got to do with Badenoch?

Tbh I just think that she isn’t very good. Not up to it really.

Churchview Tue 20-May-25 08:26:14

To me, everything that Kemi Badenoch says and does seems to come from a position of negativity.

Nothing about her shouts optimism, a generous spirit or public service. For lots of us the Tories have spent 15 years running the country into the ground and spreading division. If she could engage her party in a new sense of optimism around a positive plan to improve things for all, then I think this would win people over. I don't think she's capable of that.

Bring back the one national tories

Whitewavemark2 Tue 20-May-25 07:53:39

The Tories got rid of their best people during the Brexit fracas.

You can thank Johnson for contributing to the Tory’s decline.

Really?
After Starmer's betrayal.
I doubt it.

Starmer has zero to do with Badenoch’s performance eazybee. The Pavlov’s dog response tells nobody anything about what you think about Badenoch, or indeed, who should replace her.

I think the best thing the Tories can do for now is to call on one of the most experienced of their former ministers, who can hold their own at the despatch box and work on unifying the party again. Sunak was the best they had for years, but if he won’t do it, which I could understand, then Cleverly - or at a push, Jeremy Hunt, who I don’t like but is competent.

Jenrick! It gets worse.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 20-May-25 06:55:40

Amongst Tory party members. Is it time for another change to see if that works😄.

Apparently Jenrick is popular.

Not much to choose from is there?
