She has been made an example of & I do feel a sneaking sympathy for her.
It's a shame none of her friends & family got her to take that tweet down urgently, before 10,000 people had shared it, been misinformed & had dangerous ideas put into their heads.

Other offenders being given lenient sentences doesn't mean she should be released any sooner.

The whole affair is awful and I agree she is being made an example, people do need to understand the consequences and actions relating to posts on the internet. Maybe she’s learned the hard way, maybe not.

I don't have any sympathy for her. Awful woman.

In my opinion he is more of a threat to society than Lucy Connolly.

I agree GrannyGravy but that doesn't diminish what Lucy Connolly has done.

I'm with Smileless2012 on this. Other people's sentences are irrelevant - there's always the 'whataboutery' in cases like this. I have absolutely no sympathy for her at all.

The fact that people have contributed so much to a convicted criminal says everything I need to know about what kind of crazy country I'm living in...

Connolly, of Northampton, was arrested on August 6, by which point she had deleted her social media account, but other messages which included further racist remarks were uncovered by officers who seized her phone.

So not just one tweet then. She is only going to serve 40% of her sentence anyway so no need to expend much sympathy on her.

She had sent out numerous tweets in the months before that one, inciting people to violence.

She relied on being anonymous online, and for the things she was goading others to do.

It’s hard to know how effective her tweets were and what actions they provoked, but they were deliberately designed to get others to carry out violent acts.

She should serve those remaining months, poisonous and murderous racist hate spread on the internet have no place in a decent society.

I'm aware there is an opinion that "hurty words" are somehow not significant because they are tweets not spoken aloud, but they do matter just as much, imagine if we allowed it and it became commonplace to threaten each other in this manner?

I think she deserved that sentence, just because she's middle class and said sorry does not excuse her.

In our regional newspaper today a woman with 80 previous offences for shoplifting etc has just been let off serving a prison sentence even though she hurled dreadful racist abuse at staff in the shop.

AFAIK Lucy Connolly had no previous offences.

I can see no purpose in keeping her in for many months more. She has surely learned her lesson and her young daughter must be very distraught as will her ill husband be.

Remember when so called Comedienne Jo Brand said she wished the woman who threw milkshake over Nigel Farage had thrown battery acid over him. That was a truly disgraceful thing to say but she got away with it. Almost a national treasure. This really is two tier policing.

Even the people commentating on the article in The Telegraph were disgusted by her comments and her desire to " play the mental health card"

£93,000 now. A lot of people feel she has been punished enough. As her husband is ill and she has no income, they are in danger of losing their home.

I don't know either how some posters have sympathy with her saying burn the Bastards for all I care. Let her serve the rest if her sentence.

I think what she wrote was awful.

You are not at odds with me. I know people in those hotels. They were terrified because of people like her.

Misinformed because the person guilty of the Southport murders was born in this country and she was passing the fake news that he was an asylum seeker on & adding her idea about burning the hostels down.
