Lucy Connolly appeal Rejected

Arguably all criminals are 'misguided'. The question is who is guiding them to commit crimes. Which brings us full circle yet again.

Am I in the hang'em and flog'em brigade? If I am I'll need to get my contributions to the thread "43,000 prisoners to be let out early" ( incidentally started by the same person who started this thread) deleted as I'm definitely in favour of reducing the prison population using methods that reduce recidivism. It's really interesting comparing what people have put on both threads!
Fwiw this is the only post that I've seen on GN about letting an individual out of prison early (happy to be corrected) so I suspect it's about something else entirely! Would this thread have been started if the people targeted by Lucy Connolly in her tweets had been a different group of people eg Catholics, Jews, lesbians etc? Would people be giving money to her family and making a fuss because her appeal had failed?

What about Tyler Kay, who was sentenced to 38 months?

He retweeted Lucy Connolly's post, which was part of the prosecution evidence, and then gave people advice about not getting caught.

In his defence, he claimed it was a joke and he just wanted to impress people. Why aren't people campaigning to have him released early? He didn't actually participate in any of the riots either.

Mob = a group of people sharing the same or similar views who back each other up and support each other. Thanks for your understanding and I have no idea what it means in the UK, I was raised there but haven’t lived there for over 50 years. Obviously I am on a different planet from the majority because I feel sorry for this misguided woman and think putting her in jail was appalling. Vindictive and as bad as the ‘crime’ she committed.

It would certainly show up on an enhanced DBS check but I’m not sure she would be debarred. It may be up to the employer and type of employment? Also dont convictions get spent at some time? She has not been proven a danger to children apropos safeguarding as such.

Blimey, a known racist who has served a term in prison, is hardly suitable child minding material. I would imagine that the parents of the children she had been minding must have been pretty horrified!

In the case of Shamina Begum a statement was published to the effect that if the full facts of the case were made public, there would be no doubt about the decisions made. I am not comparing the behaviour of the individuals, but it seems that this was not a one off posting, and the courts had more information than was made available at the time to the media.

Northampton is a diverse little town. She was married to one of its councillors (I don't think it matters if it was blue, red, green or whatever) She suggested people go and commit arson and murder, in my opinion I don't care if she is being made an example of.

I’m not in support of capital or corporal punishment. I’m not in any ‘brigade’ either . If I were, I suppose it would be the Keep Streets Safe From Mobs Brigade, or the Anti Terror Brigade.

Having no previous convictions doesn’t excuse her either. She has form for posting racist tweets, which shows that this wasn’t a one-off aberration. It’s who she is.

I agree that this thread has been revealing, Casdon. It’s beyond me that anyone would want to defend her - I just don’t understand it.

So are the ‘poor woman, let’s turn a blind eye to her breaking the law with incitement to murder’ brigade. Nobody will change anybody else’s mind, but it has indeed been a revealing thread.

It’s not worth discussing really as the ‘hang ‘em and flog ‘em’ brigade are out in force unfortunately.We have all said our piece at least.😃

Who is forbidding people from discussing? That's why the site is moderated.
