The O/P read (in part)

"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the population of Gaza will be displaced to the south after his security cabinet approved an expanded military operation in the enclave that a minister described as a plan to “conquer” the territory.

The vote on Sunday came hours after the military said it would mobilize tens of thousands of reservists, strengthening its capacity to operate in the besieged Palestinian territory.

“One thing will be clear: there will be no in-and-out,” Netanyahu said in a Monday video message posted on X. “We’ll call up reserves to come, hold territory — we’re not going to enter and then exit the area, only to carry out raids afterward. That’s not the plan. The intention is the opposite.”

We now have the aid crisis at the focus of world wide attention.

That woman doctor, who was saving lives in one of the beleagured hospitals in Gaza, and then the immolated bodies of most of her children were brought in.

Oreo Mon 26-May-25 09:09:16

Since two of the now released hostages were held prisoner by a doctor and his son in an apartment opposite a large hospital in Gaza I don’t have any faith in them or what they say.
They are either in cahoots with hamas or are ‘played’ by hamas.
Of course doctors and surgeons there are dealing with injuries as that’s what their job is but don’t expect full truths from them as even the British doctors working there don’t see or hear the full picture. Some are Muslim and fully against Israel which is why they went there to work. It’s complicated.

I tend to believe the doctors in Gaza often British as to whether people are starving or not and as for releasing hostages this was agreed fir early march except Israel broke the agreement and instead of the release began the latest attacks on the people on Gaza.

There was a British doctor who had been working in Gaza on Laura Kuenssberg programme a few weeks ago. She had treated seriously malnourished children and said you never want to see a starving child.

silverlining48 Mon 26-May-25 09:03:00

What I can’t believe is the almost total lack of compassion shown on this thread to others who are living in what must be hell.

Don’t believe every statement put out by hamas about starving people and remember they control what you see and hear about.
Also remember hamas could end things right now by releasing the live and dead hostages.

Anniebach, are you seriously suggesting that every Palestinian is a member of, or supports Hamas? That ordinary Palestinians don’t want a solution that stops the terrors they live with

I find it increasingly difficult to believe that as a direct result of the actions of this Israeli government, more young Palestinians will be driven to support the terrorist group Hamas

Where have I said every Palestinian is a member of or supports
Hamas ?

Hamas are not Palestinians really ?

Allsorts Mon 26-May-25 07:47:10

Palestinians have nothing and are not Hamas, can't you understand? It's a terrorist group. For some reason, just some people think that a whole Nation is worthless and need to be wiped out.

Anniebach Mon 26-May-25 07:33:04

Yes David, no matter Hamas rapes babies, smashes their bodies
against walls, lock families in their homes, set fire and watch
them burn, as Hamas has said “ we will wipe Jews from the earth, which country is next?

David49 Mon 26-May-25 07:26:46

Starving babies highly emotive propaganda, so Israel give up and let Hamas rule Gaza, every baby is a martyr to the destroy Israel.

wyllow3 if that is the same as on the BBC news feed app. I can’t bear it.

How on Earth aid workers are coping, I can’t begin to imagine. What brave people they are, because not only must their mental health be taking an absolute hammering, they are in severe danger of being maimed for life or killed. My goodness their bravery is really beyond understanding and each and every one of them deserves recognition.

Anniebach Mon 26-May-25 05:23:45

Hamas could stop it but no pressure on them , they invaded Israel, took hostages and will not set them free.

Israel is here to stay for sure, the doubt is will Hamas be driven out of Gaza, how many more die and how much more damage is done.
Hamas are fanatics they will fight to the end because they are promised paradise, if it’s true that there are 200,000 Hamas in Gaza as others have estimated, the deaths we have seen so far are small. More likely there are only 5000 hardcore fighters the rest will surrender or turn on the leaders.
If there is no breakthrough it could go on for years.

Where is this estimation?

silverlining48 Sun 25-May-25 15:27:09

It has already gone on for years David. Decades and since 2002 Israel have attacked Palistine, 14 times, killing and displacing people from their land every couple of years. Check for yourself. Many are killed each time, often youngsters throwing stones. Hardly reported on our media.
As for hamas being fanatics fighting to the end I won’t argue with that, but it could just as easily be attributed to Israel as well.

Oreo Israel will carry on and they still have their allies even though some have shown concern about the Netanyahu administration.
I have always thought of Israel as a great nation and was due to visit but circumstances prevented me.
Israel will go on despite Netanyahu et al.

agaa4 with regard to the continued existence of Israel. Of course I think it is more likely than not that it will continue, but nothing is for ever, and I think if it continues down the road of violence to resolve its problems rather than diplomacy and peace than its wicket will become very sticky.

Am curious as to why you keep pushing the query of the continued existence of the State of Israel theme? It’s as solid as any other country in the world.Would you rather it wasn’t?

Wyllow3 Sun 25-May-25 11:26:21

nothing likely not nothing Riley!

Wyllow3 Sun 25-May-25 11:25:52

CNN reports that the US won't back sanctions but the most effective sanction outside the US would be if the EU pulls out (or changes) the 25 year Association Agreement which is for free movement of goods and scientific collaboration. It's never been discussed before, has huge implications but nothing Riley to happen soon.

It adds that "But hundreds of thousands of Israelis demonstrate against the war each week, demanding the government agrees a ceasefire deal to release all the hostages still held in the strip"

"In an opinion poll published by Israel’s Channel 12 broadcaster earlier this month, 61% of those surveyed favored ending the war for a deal that secures the hostage release, while only 25% supported the expanded military operation"

As people have said, Trump remains silent but has done deals with Saudi Arabia which are out of step with Israel policy. This doesnt seem to be having much "bite" tho.
