this continues an ongoing thread on Gaza

The O/P read (in part)

"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the population of Gaza will be displaced to the south after his security cabinet approved an expanded military operation in the enclave that a minister described as a plan to “conquer” the territory.

The vote on Sunday came hours after the military said it would mobilize tens of thousands of reservists, strengthening its capacity to operate in the besieged Palestinian territory.

“One thing will be clear: there will be no in-and-out,” Netanyahu said in a Monday video message posted on X. “We’ll call up reserves to come, hold territory — we’re not going to enter and then exit the area, only to carry out raids afterward. That’s not the plan. The intention is the opposite.”

We now have the aid crisis at the focus of world wide attention.

The marches are always very peaceful.

There seems to be a huge Jewish contingent marching alongside Iranians, carrying both Palestinian, Israeli and Iranian flags.

Maremia Sat 21-Jun-25 14:35:55

Some have already said they would be marching today Whitewavemark2. I hope they stay safe and comfortable

Whitewavemark2 Sat 21-Jun-25 14:26:17

I wonder how the GNs are doing on the March in London?

It looks absolutely massive!

These marches are getting bigger by the month.

We don't want Iran to have full nuclear capability but Israel went into this war knowing that on their own they couldn't destroy the nuclear weapon that Iran has inside a mountain.
They were relying on the US to come to their aid but Trump is stalling. The Israeli government don't want a peace deal with Iran which is what Trump and other western countries want including the UK.
Nobody wants to be dragged into a war. These are dangerous times

When did Israel declare they wanted and expected the US to
join with them to fight Iran ?

Surely any talk of war brings dangerous times ?

We all want peace, it goes without saying, but we live in a world where often war is inevitable because of the actions of some.
I want hamas and hezbolla smashed and don’t want a country such as Iran to have full nuclear capability, do you?

Do you believe that British involvement in a war will achieve that?

Irak and Afghanistan made things much worse, and probably let to where we are today.

No country stepped in to help Jews in Europe, fact, shock when
films and knowledge of the Holocaust emerged, took years so too late

Antisemitism cannot / should not be denied it has hounded Jews for centuries

AGAA4 Sat 21-Jun-25 11:28:23

None of us know what the motive was so it's just speculation and this thread is about the more serious problem of war between Israel and Iran. Bringing in anti semitism just makes things worse.

They were probably just drugged up yobs looking for money or things to sell. The police will have known who they were and understood the motive.
It's common for burglars to wreck a place if they can't find anything of value.

🤔

Probably not.

Anniebach Sat 21-Jun-25 11:16:12

Fact. Religious books and Scrolls are treated with much reverence by Jews, painting hatred on walls is something Jews are use to, even on the schools of Jewish children,

The Torah is the most important religious text in Judaism, considered by many to be the word of God. It is a foundational text that guides Jewish people in their beliefs and practices, shaping their understanding of God, history, and the world. The Torah is also significant for its influence on Jewish law, rituals, and ethical behavior.

I am glad that the vandalism in the synagogue is not being treated as a hate crime. Such actions are usually accompanied by spray painted hatefilled slogans and I couldn't see that among the dreadful damage.

Really?!

I haven't heard this news.
If this is not a hate crime, then what is it?
An attack on the Jewish faith is sinister.

Anniebach Sat 21-Jun-25 11:05:09

The police may choose not to feed the truth that antisemitism
isn’t frightening for Jews in this country
No doubt someone will post with the news their Jewish friends
do not believe it is antisemitism?

Yes. Let's not go down the route of treating breakins and vandalism differently depending on the victims of the crime.

Not being treated as a hate crime by the police , tearing up
religious books and scrolls far worse than spray painted words,

Israel committed Genocide, what religion endorses that?

Anniebach Sat 21-Jun-25 10:30:17

However, police confirmed to Jewish News that there is currently no indication the break-in was antisemitic in nature, and said it remains unclear what, if anything, was stolen.

The Jewish Community Council of Stamford Hill condemned the incident in a statement posted to social media: “This is a devastating attack on a synagogue in our community. Any attack on a place of worship, of any kind, must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. We are pleased to hear that suspects have been arrested, thanks to the swift actions of Shomrim and Hackney Police.”

Puzzled, why would anyone vandalise a synagogue and tear up
holy books and scrolls, ? Thankfully the police are on the case,
hope one officer isn’t the one who last year described a Jew
leaving a synagogue wearing a kippah as “openly Jewish”

The Gur Synagogue on Lampard Grove was targeted in the early hours of Friday. Images shared online show torn holy books scattered across the floor, smashed cabinets and lockers, and a visibly shaken community as police carried out forensic work at the scene.
That’s very sad Anniebach.

Yes very sad and frightening, all because it’s a place of worship
for Jews

The police have told the Jewish News that there was no indication that the vandalism was antisemitic.

The Jewish Community Council of Stamford Hill condemned the incident in a statement posted to social media. They thanked the police for their swift action in arresting two individuals. They also commented that at this stage, the incident is not being treated as a hate crime.

You really shouldn’t be doing it at your age and in this heat.

silverlining48 Sat 21-Jun-25 09:46:48

I care too, so much so that despite the heat, being old and feeling nervous, I am about to leave for a march in London which will be a long, extremely hot, exhausting day.
I hope to march with others who believe in peace in a world which may be on the brink of something so terrible we don’t even want to imagine.
