The woman who my husband left me for screwed him out of £80,000 and went back to her husband. Me and his kids picked up the pieces.That money would have made a huge difference to my children’s lives. I bear no resentment towards him but her; well, I can’t begin to say what I feel about her. She told me I had been a bad wife, too.Until she had to live with him . She even moved to my village so the affair was conducted a few yards from our family home.

It could have been worse. My ex husband’s affair was with one of our employees.
I had been working with her the day I found her hiding in my house. Not the best of days but I’ve had a lot of laughs about it since. I still see her and we get on well.

Whilst I've been gardening this afternoon I've been thinking about this thread and agreeing with posters who said that a baby is always a good thing. A man isn't always a good thing though and Johnson is a questionable choice.

I began wondering what Carrie's parents think of her affair and then marriage to Johnson. I thought how, if she was my daughter I would be very concerned for her becoming involved with someone with his track record of broken homes, affairs and children left for a younger woman.

Coming in from the garden I've looked up Carrie's parents.
She was born as the result of an affair between her parents, who were both married to other people at the time.

It does seem that some people just move in different circles and have completely different standards from those that would have been thought the respectable, stable norm not so long ago.

I have time for some of Boris's politics especially on climate change and animal welfare but my goodness he's proved himself to be a bad husband time and again. His first wife said he was a better ex than he ever was husband.

As long as people are consistent in their praise and condemnation, that’s fine with me

I'm a bit confused though, what Eton and Oxford have to do with it? There are many alumni of both educational estsblishments, who have shown commitment to their spouses, and are exemplary fathers. Just a few examples:

Prince William
David Cameron
Rory Stewart
Eddie Redmayne
Matthew Pinsent
Bill Turnbull
Bear Grylls
And lots more with rock solid marriages.

The comments further up seem irrelevant to me.

As I said, this post is about a newborn baby and I don't judge Carrie and Boris Johnson. Angela Rayner's behaviour is not relevant here.

Some children can be badly damaged by abandonment.

I know, I could easily have been the stroppy eldest daughter, but it would not have got my parents back together.

I chose the path that was best for me and my family.

My daughter felt that she’d worked hard at school to make us proud of her only to have her father drag our family name into the mud. She certainly wasn’t a stroppy elder daughter . She was heartbroken.

Casdon if Carrie had been unhappy in her previous marriages to the point she fell in love, had an affair and went on to marry and have children, it is not my position to judge.

I would assume that most women will protect their children as much as possible from a marriage break up. I know I did, to the detriment of my own health. Johnson’s affair was too high profile for his wife to protect their children. I also think that he was too tied up with his own divorce proceedings to take the covid pandemic seriously when it first emerged.

GG it’s perhaps very different being the wife of someone who has an affair!

Perhaps I was lucky, my parents reconciled and became friends, my mum was very close to one of his wives.

I appreciate that some divorces become very contentious, but many do not.

We aren't putting the stocks out though are we, we are commenting in the same way as those who say he will be a good dad. He might be a good dad to these children, it is possible, but his previous behaviour was poor and will have impacted all those around him. It is very rare for men like this to change although old age sometimes leads to modifying behaviour. I actually say this as someone who has in the past made bad decisions which hurt people so I am not being holier than thou, but it really isn't behaviour that is good for children.

Not at all, I am a child of divorced parents, my father went on to marry more than once.

From experience I know if I had held on to any resentment I would not have had a loving relationship with my father or my half siblings.

I don't think it it does to be honest. People saying I am sure he will be a good dad is not kindness. If in society we don't comment about men who hurt women and children then i think we encourage that behaviour. I don't care about his politics to be honest but I suppose I do care about pretence.

An earlier poster on this thread said we should all move on and forget about Johnson’s past mistakes.

Having (several) affairs when you’re married with children isn’t a mistake.

Men should be called out on this behaviour regardless of whether it’s Boris Johnson or whoever.

For me, it’s got nothing to do with his politics - it’s to do with his behaviour towards his former wives and children. If Keir Starmer behaved like that, I’d call him out on it too!
