After a tough start bancing the figures left by the Conservatives after their scorched earth policies, the Chancellor announced today that a five year plan to invest billions into transport. This will start to enable the devolved government they promised.

Now they are on a more even keel, after having to make some decisions the would rather not have had to, it looks as if they stopped the large vessel which is the UK economy from crashing and have begun to turn it around.

Andy Burnham announced new T level placements in the Bee network which is part of their alternative to the University route called the Greater Manchester Baccalaureate or MBac. £2.5 BN will be invested in Greater Manchester's Bee network over the next five years.

Rachel Reeves announced a five year investment in transport covering Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and the. North East - Newcastle, Sunderland, the Midlands, Birmingham.

Next week the Chancellor will present the spending review.

Our eldest daughter used the Manchester tram to get to her grammar school in Sale when she was 12. She is now 48. Let’s not be fooled that all of this investment is ‘new money’. It isn’t.

It will be fascinating to see what they intend to do and where the money comes from to push it forward.

Small steps are all we can mange realistically what with defence reviews and so many needy areas so I applaud them. I think on the whole (with mistakes of course like WFA which they are addressing) in awful times they are actually doing a good job. It can never be "enough" given needs, we have to count blessings - Starmer on the whole moves cautiously but steadily. (and then gets criticised for not doing enough when many dont want to pay more tax....)

Andy Burnham expanded more than I have reported woodenspoon. I'll try and find the report again but if anyone else does it would be worth putting the link up. He introduced Rachel Reeves.

Anything that improves infrastructure and creates jobs is money well spent in my view. It’s nice to see money being spent on and in this country for a change instead of it all going abroad to endless projects and wars.
