Sometimes when words fail, (which they are beginning to be

A song says it instead.

Wyllow3 Sat 07-Jun-25 22:10:23

Yes. They have got the figures from

www.ochaopt.org

(lots more Information)

I presumed its such a conservative estimate as when figures are posted, its generally "its Hamas, don't believe it" comes up to discredit it.

Helpful letter but the number of palistinians killed has been surpassed to over 60,000.

Wyllow3 Sat 07-Jun-25 21:04:12

This is a template letter designed by UNA/UK to then write to MP's - adding/deleting bits
from
una.org.uk/gaza-crisis-write-your-mp
tells you how to make contact

the letter for using as a starting point (it helped me, where to start)

Dear [MP Name],

Urgent request: Ceasefire in Gaza

I’m writing to express my ongoing concern about the devastating violence in Gaza which has resulted in
unfathomable death and destruction.

More than 28,000 Palestinians have been killed, while thousands remain missing under the rubble of destroyed buildings.

The protection of civilians is paramount and a requirement under international humanitarian law.

The UK has a special responsibility - as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, former colonial power
in the region, and the world’s second-largest arms exporter - including at least half a billion in export licences to Israel over the past decade.

It is thought that around 15% of the value of each of Israel’s F-35 combat aircraft is produced in the UK.

The aircraft are being heavily used in Israel’s bombing campaign on Gaza.

As my MP, I am asking you to do whatever you can to show your support for the people of Gaza and to urge the UK Government to help end the violence by taking action to save lives and secure an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

I urge you to:

● Support the motion for an immediate and permanent ceasefire - to benefit everyone in Israel and Palestine, facilitate the provision of adequate humanitarian assistance and the release of hostages, and curtail the risk of regional conflict.

● Call for the suspension of all arms export licences to Israel and any other forms of military support with immediate effect.

● Call for the UK to ensure Israel fully implements the International Court of Justice orders.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,

It's a group based in Israel composed of both Jewish, Palestinian citizens who are determined not to let the barriers that stand between them get in the way of their humanity. I cant think much better ways to move forward. it's a shame they cant involve non Hamas Gaza's, but thats hardly possible they cant meet up/travel. I'll be gifting and also write to them.

Are posters aware of the organisation "standing together"

www.standing-together.org/en

its one I can find that tries to do what I describe based in Israel and you can donate.

Thankyou for this link Wyllow.
I'd not heard of the Standing Together org.
The situation is so dire and I need to do something.

It’s a Marsh Family song, what do you expect? Replies to the OP will reflect what posters think.

And we all know what you think about what is happening in Gaza, this genocide, and the illegal settlements in the West Bank- so your reaction is not surprising. Increasingly isolated it is clear too.

Just so you know, I don’t reply to deliberate goady or personal posts.

Nothing goady about my post. I have been reading your posts on Gaza last few months- you have made them very very personal and clear, not me.

Pushy parents who hitch their wagon to any current theme they think will get them clicks and £££

Since their disastrous ditty to music regarding the Peliquot (sp) court case I refuse to listen or watch any propaganda they put out.

Same here

OMG did they make up a song about that too?
Is nothing safe from their tasteless, tacky commercialisation?

Anniebach Sat 07-Jun-25 20:10:59

This will seem unkind sorry, Greta Thunberg and minor celebrities, the Marsh family, who next ?

RosieandherMaw Sat 07-Jun-25 19:59:36

but I guessed it was the family who started posting these videos around the pandemic.
I couldn’t remember their name, so I googled…. ‘Who is the sanctimonious family who post videos of them singing ?and up came the name, the Marsh family !!
I cant stand them, the pious expressions, the dreariness of their singing, its like getting long haired vicars with guitars singing Kumbaya, instead of a decent rousing (or moving)hymn.
I dare say they'll make loadsa $$$$$$ though

Yes, it was why I started with a song, just wish I hadn't indulged my Marsh family stuff.

I'm concerned that the UN with its many resources is being deliberately sidelined in favour of a combination of USA and Israeli regime wanting to work through the Gaza Humanitarian Organisation, which seems to be getting in a right mess while UN lorries wait. And the rumour mills and still no reporters allowed in so we can really assess the situation. It's clearly limited what the UK govt can do and I like asking what can we do - for example of we have some money to spare, who best to donate to to help the most needy. who can we write to. and as I've said many times, what can foster what there is in common between ordinary Israeli citizens and ordinary Gazan people to drive them apart. Neither Hamas nor the current war cabinet in Israel.

Songs often have more power than words, which hasn’t been mentioned on this thread. They stay with you.

Wyllow3 Sat 07-Jun-25 19:06:41

I felt the ongoing thread was covering so very many issues and time na changes have gone by, and this is so pressing so lets see how it goes.

This is true, the Marshes just get us to think and feel.

However, this is what we can actually do:

Here are some ideas from Christian Aid about how we can write to our MP and others

Ahmed Sourani is Christian Aid’s consultant in Gaza, working closely with our local partners.

Along with his family, he had to flee his home one week into the current conflict. Since early December, he's been living in the UAE, after being allowed to leave Gaza to receive a food sustainability prize at COP28.

He describes the many struggles facing people in Gaza, as well as their hopes for an immediate ceasefire and a just, lasting peace, with an individual story one of many, I'll try and find more powerful ones

This is the helpful Christian Aid overall site with what you can say in a letter to an MP (ie ask for sanctions and specific) and who to address it to

Thank you x

Even Google could see the connection!

I don’t think they are even slightly sanctimonious nor do I think the parents are pushy.

This family clearly all care about people and want to raise money to help, in their own way.

They are all very musically talented and don’t mind them at all.

Rather harsh words from some of you, but each to their own, we cannot all like everyone!

I genuinely think the appalling crisis in Gaza matters more than repeating criticism of the family. Surely it is?

It most certainly is!

It’s mindblowing how awful the aid situation is, how many more children must die.

But it’s the Marsh family who are very Marmite figures who are singing.
They’re not saying/singing anything new, they simply jump on any bandwagon going.
The situation in Gaza is very serious but listening to the Marshes won’t do anything or change anything.
