Just watching what happened in down-town Los Angeles yesterday as ICE, ATF and others conducted raids against immigrants and others.

The Los Angeles citizens protested through the night against the military-style raises. In a statement from Kathryn Barger, a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, she says:

I am aware of today's DHS ICE enforcement actions that took place in Los Angeles. At this time, my office is actively monitoring the situation. While I fully support the enforcement of our nation’s laws, I also believe it is essential that actions taken by federal agencies are conducted with transparency, fairness, and respect for the rights and dignity of all individuals. My priority remains the safety and well-being of all residents of Los Angeles County.

NATO summit in the Netherlands from June 24th. I imagine lot of this could be discussed.
It's within the 'two weeks' grace granted by Trump.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 21-Jun-25 09:06:00

I expect trump will leave early.

Great to hear you are enjoying London.
Norah, I don't know. What's the story with Fairford.

In 1986, then POTUS called for an air strike against Tripoli and Benghazi. As some European countries wouldn't allow over flights, the bombers, small planes, tankers staged out of Fairford,Lakenheath, and Upper Heyford.

Perhaps the navy had some boats off shore as well.

I wondered if POTUS needed permission to use Fairford.

DD told me that one of her colleagues was talking to a colleague at Harvard. She said her post grad students are now refusing to drive anywhere because they are so frightened of getting stopped on any pretext. And there's no question of them crossing the border in case they aren't allowed back. This is HARVARD! The Americans used to be proud of the number of foreign students queueing up to go there!

Not kidding, it's on CNN just now, that Pakistan has just nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Is that mental, or a stroke of genius?
If he wants the Prize, he will have to solve the Israeli/Iranian war.

Iam64 Sat 21-Jun-25 22:37:35

OMG - a Nobel peace prize
The Deal has taken over the world

Well he won’t be getting it now that’s for sure.

NotSpaghetti Sun 22-Jun-25 06:25:46

Well with Iran now being bombed maybe they will nominate him too!

I am in Paris, so I am not caught up. But looks like the US is at war with Iran now.

So much for being the President of Peace.

Florida has seized land on the Everglades and is building a "detention center" to hold the migrants they have kidnapped off the street and not given due process.

It is being called Alligator Alcatraz.

It's got a whole Concentration Camp vibe to it sadly. Especially since the people they have been detaining seem to disappear without a trace.

Isn't it a National Park or protected area?

MaizieD Tue 24-Jun-25 11:34:36

Isn't it a National Park or protected area?

What has that got to do with it. Trump!s wishes are above the law...

He is demonstrating that steadfastly ignoring any law he doesn't like, and being surrounded by picked officials who are prepared to ignore the law, too, nothing can touch him. Nothing at all.

There isn't any meaningful fight back from the Democrats. So, no barriers..

imaround Tue 24-Jun-25 12:45:22

He also bombed Iran without Congressional approval.

He is rounding up migrants and not giving them Due Process.

He has violated most of our rights.

He doesn't care about the laws.

imaround Tue 24-Jun-25 12:47:07

I am seeing his lawless behavior trickle down to his supporters too. He pardoned racist, bigot criminals and put them to work for the government.

This is a coup, there are no laws.

I dread leaving Paris tomorrow and going home.

Trump has brokered a ceasefire between the two countries which I hope will hold.

imaround Tue 24-Jun-25 18:35:26

Both countries violated the ceasefire and Iran bombed US military bases. This isn't over.

Keep safe imaround and keep in touch with us. One of my close friends is from Brooklyn but lived in England 45 years, she’s an active Democrat Abroad and of course has family and friends in America.
Those of us who don’t share the maga approach to life need to support each other and talk about stuff

imaround Wed 25-Jun-25 12:21:53

Thanks for having me! It was lovely.

Last day of the Supreme Court session is tomorrow. There are expected to be quite a few rulings dropped.

Today they ruled the government can defund Planned Parenthood. All those women, mostly minorities and low income, will no longer be able to get healthcare at all.

Planned Parents provide healthcare to thousands of women such as pap smears and mammograms, birth control, STD treatments and more.

More women are going to die.

imaround Thu 26-Jun-25 23:23:43

I made it home by the way. No orange jumpsuit. grin

SC ruled against nationwide injunctions from the courts in the birthright citizenship case.

Weakening judicial power. Again.

Our constitution is merely a piece of paper now. The coup is almost done. He holds the SC and Congress in his side.

Several more rulings expected today.

AGAA4 Fri 27-Jun-25 15:38:42

I've just been reading about this and feel quite shocked that Trump is getting away with this. I think he appointed 3 of the judges in the SC.
