An Iranian man has said he wants to wake up to a new Iran. One that will use security cameras for real dangers and not just the hijab.
We mustn't forget there are ordinary people involved in this war.

I have become more cyncical in order age, and think some people are out to deliberately harm the UK, while appearing to be acting in it's best interests.
I no longer believe that all people are acting from pure ignorance only, GG13.

There so are.

Iran, in the 70s and was it 80s, appeared to have many people who were peaceful at heart.
It may well still be the case.

I have more knowledge on the Iraq situation in my little finger than many on GN.

If it makes you feel better to be on the side of a rogue terrorist state than the USA or the UK…

Well, some would say that those committing and supporting a genocide are the terrorists. That those who bomb and attack pre-emptivally, are the terrorists. I am aware that you can't or won't see this.

I don't think catastrophising and goading is at all helpful, Claremont, at such a worrying time.

Smileless2012 Sun 22-Jun-25 20:20:42

I don't agree that Claremont is catastrophising or goading; I agree with her post.

LizzieDrip Sun 22-Jun-25 20:23:35

I also agree with Claremont’s post.

Goading? Isn't this exactly what Trump and Netanyahu are doing, in a catastrophic and massive way. No wonder we are all so worried.

Allira Sun 22-Jun-25 20:34:41

Of course you don't 🙂

I think GrannyGravy knows of what she speaks.

I honestly believe he is trying to start WW3. Then he can step in and play the big 'I am, look how clever I am at controlling things'. The man is a psychopath with no interest in anything but his own ego. I hope US wake up soon and see what he is doing to their country.

Allira Sun 22-Jun-25 20:40:55

Would it really bother you if the Palestinian flag was burnt.

That, because I thought burning the Star of David was shocking, on another thread.
That is a goady post.

Of course I would, burning national flags is a disgrace.

Iran is a terrible and dangerous country

I am very ashamed to say I was affected by propaganda to think like this. How it had slipped into my consciousness, the endless pictures of men in black shouting and self flagellating.

Then my neighbours moved in.Guess what? They were just the same as us, slightly more hospitable, slightly more sociable, slightly more animated.

Yes, but they had left Iran.
Why?

There but for the grace of God .... I might be living there.

lafergar Sun 22-Jun-25 21:03:56

They got out when they could. That doesn't make Iran a terrible and dangerous country.

Allira Sun 22-Jun-25 21:05:45

I'm glad they're safe here.

JaneJudge Sun 22-Jun-25 21:13:01

The US has also controlled our UK export market for a very long time here because of Iran even for quite simple manufactured things here. There is a specific trading regulation, I expect someone might know what it is. I’m too affected by the humidity for my brain to work properly

What do you know about the expert knowledge of others?

I am currently reading Rory Stewart ^Politics on the Edge' - where he makes it clear that Blair and others at the time had absolutely NO idea about the realities of Iraq and Afghanistan, and just hated to be told by someone who had spent many years working there, on the ground, with the local people.

Allira Sun 22-Jun-25 21:38:28

What I said too!

Politicians = donkeys

Maremia Sun 22-Jun-25 21:42:30

Burning an important symbol like a flag or religious book is disrespectful.
Burning a child is murder.
They don't command an equal amount of condemnation.

Are you an expert on Iraq GG? Or on what you have heard. The two are defferent.

Maremia Sun 22-Jun-25 21:44:14

Nope, can't see any goading, Claremont. Please keep posting.

Alastair and Rory have had several heated discussions about Iraq and from memory I think they devoted a couple of TRIP’s to the issue. I’ll never forget Robin Cooks resignation speech; one of the greatest political speeches I have ever heard. I’m sure what veered Blair towards supporting the war was the despicable way that Saddam Hussein treated his own people, but the war didn’t exactly help them sad. Going back through recent history the west should never have started meddling with the Middle East; carving it up, trying to change their culture by stopping them from having a nomadic way of life etc etc.

On BBC News just now 'this is Netanyahu's war, he has wanted to do this for decades'

You obviously missed the part where the reporter said that the majority of the people support his stance.
Or you just chose to ignore that fact.🤷‍♀️
