What I want to know is where Iran has stored its uranium? There are satellite photos of lorry convoys lined up at the bombed sites before bombing so if these exist, where are the photos of the final destination of the many tons of uranium?

David59, it isn’t only Iran that needs a non aggressive regime

Iam64 Wed 25-Jun-25 08:35:13

Morning Whitewave, your summary puts things as they are. I’ve just written to my mp to say please keep us out of this mess. Stsrmer and Lammy repeating the need to de-escalate and diplomacy. Let’s hope they hold that line.

It’s all surreal. Why the hell did Israel bomb Iran? Why should we be involved at all??

Israel bombed Iran in an attempt to make it give up its nuclear weapons programme, the US joined in and bombed the sites in the hope of destroying it. They certainly severely damaged it, however it is thought the 400kg of enriched uranium was moved before the bombing, this means the nuclear bomb programme has not ended.

Trump then did his usual “flip flop” and declared a peace deal, this might prove to be a fatal error, Iran will now redouble its effort to produce a bomb, what is needed is a non aggressive regime in Iran.

I am on holiday, and as a result have been out of the loop just for a day.

It is as if in the past 24 hours things have got beyond weird.

There was the bombings that didn’t work, but Trump is claiming they did.

We had the leader of the free world using expletives on camera about other countries.

There is an apparent ceasefire built on nothing else but Trumps say so -

There is footage of the USA in its very own movie as it bombs another country to the tune of Barbara Anne.

We can confidently assume that within a very short time Iran will be a nuclear power.

Carnage is continuing in Gaza with starving people being used as target practice.

What a wonderful world we live in.

Outside my window a little bird is singing its heart out.

It makes me want to cry at man’s evil. And futility.

I apologise for my inability to post links. I hope someone more tech savvy can do so.
Trump has posted a video of US planes dropping bombs. The background music is from the Beachboys song Barbara Ann. The lyrics include bomb bomb bomb Iran. It contains reference to bombing mosques.
I was sent it by a friend. Was so shocked I thought it was Fake News. It appears not.
It’s another occasion where I thought I’d reached peak understanding of how dangerous Trump is, only to find it continues to get worse

I think Trump is making the right call. No president has surrounded himself with more advisors and he has the ear of many powerful people across the region.
We know his instincts are against war. We know he thinks it’s a waste of resources and somehow everyone has their price and it’s just a matter of doing the best deal. But Iran is a very different culture, with a very religious patriarchal leadership which as we know has reversed all freedom of women. They are fanatics. They would like to destroy Israel. America’s interests are deeply held in Israel. So Trump has to act. For Iran to have nuclear power is unthinkable. Trump is the least warmongering president there could be. But he has listened to his advisors and has tried to take out irans nuclear capability. It is more dangerous to allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons.

What do people think about being on a war footing? I don’t want to be on this at all. I don’t know anyone who does. I’m not sure subscription would be legal nowadays and I am horrified that Trump seems to have caused this situation to worsen. The man is a bully with no cares about anyone else. He needs to “the word he said on TV” off and not press other countries into following some batshit idea he has to exert power over everyone. My mother is 90 and has dementia and I’m so glad she has no idea about this having lived through the 2nd world war and Suez issue and thinks it will never happen again. I don’t understand how everyone can just bow tow to this arrogant bully of a man and not pull him up?? Are our own leaders not able to stop this lunacy?

Allira says 'Claremont Are you saying that men in the Armed Services are not adult or mature? If so, I believe they might take issue with that rather strange comment. '

NO this is not at all what I was saying.

This is not a Mess Hall, but a Forum with adult, mature women (and a few men).

Perhaps thi came across wrongly, then.

I fully understand the concept of gallows humour. What confuses me is why it is relevant here. None of us, AFAIK, is going to be called to a theatre of war.

Ordinary people going about their lives don't want war. It's only their leaders who create these hostile situations but they usually aren't the ones who get killed.
Absolutely. I feel so very sad for the people going through the things that I have the luxury of simply having to worry about. Young mothers, older mothers of fighting-age sons and daughters, the young people themselves who just want to live peacefully, older people who can do nothing but hope for the best and pray to their God, babies and children - all of them on both sides.

I'm not suggesting that everyone else isn't equally concerned - just that us arguing about nothing is not helping anyone.

Apologies. My post above was a response to @Claremont.

Thank you for this, very grateful. I shall spend time looking at those, but in the meantime, I'll join lagerfar.

‘They’ve both been at it so long they don’t know what the fuck they’re doing’

Pretty much sums it up.

My work could be challenging. Dark/ gallows humour was a useful companion

My dear friend, retired social worker had the very sad situation of having to remove children from the mother, the police were with her.
After knocking on the door she was confronted with a shotgun.
There were plenty of dark humour jokes over that one.
My friend even gave the mother an hilarious name.

It's not my take.

It's fact.

Thanks, have a pleasant evening.

Humour in the face of adversity, does not mean not caring/worrying, it is how some cope.

It is not disrespectful, it is not horrendous it is just a different form of self preservation

Quite. And sometimes extreme language too.

I remember the Head of the ICU at our local hospital during the Covid crisis, when they were filming themselves, saying if the situation worsened and they ran out of ICU beds, then they would be fucked. The situation was desperate.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 24-Jun-25 19:03:13

lafergirl I am aware that this is a discussion board for older adults (the name is the giveaway)

I find the juxtapostion between terror and humour hard to comprehend.

It's so sad what is unfolding.

We're talking about people in stressful situations, not posters on a chat forum.

I'm confused. I'm sure that gallows humour is rife in a number of professions, but this is a discussion board, not an officers' mess or an operating theatre.

Yes.
