You old dears are so funny!

In what way, dear?

grandmac Mon 23-Jun-25 16:47:34

No they are not funny. They are three stupid old men who want to remain in power. Israel has attacked Syria, Jordan and Egypt in the past, and now Iran. If they bombed Belgium would the world stand by, would America join in? I know the regime in Iran is awful and most Iranians want change but they have no one to rally around to lead them. Now Trump has bombed they will forget their grievances about the regime and want to fight to protect their country. Netanyahu is a thug and there will be no peace while he is in power. The USA gives billions of dollars to Israel for defense so you would think Trump would have some leverage over him but he just goes along with whatever Netanyahu does/says. Our children’s grandchildren will wonder why the world stood by and let Gaza be obliterated, and why there was no outcry over the bombing of nuclear facilities which is illegal under international law. Iran will now suffer a military coup or descend into civil war in which the men with the biggest guns will win. The west helped get rid of the Shah and look what happened then! Now we are seeing a repeat situation. Have we not learnt from Afghanistan and Iraq? Of course we don’t want Iran to have nuclear weapons but we allowed Israel, Pakistan, India and North Korea to produce them. I don’t remember great outcries about any of them.

Pakistan has put forward Trump for the Nobel peace prize.

When he seemed to be trying to broker peace deals I said I thought he was hoping to get the peace prize, but hoped no-one would actually suggest he got it! He wants to be remembered as the great leader who achieved something no-one else could. Sadly he is just a huge ego supporting a limited brain! I just hope we can avoid our bases in the region being used. Seeing what has happened in Gaza and the suffering of so many civilians there, I thought things could only get better, then this!

Chocolatelovinggran Mon 23-Jun-25 16:23:03

Mr Trump and Mr Netanyahu are both of the age of many of our posters- aka "old dears".
Are they funny?

Let’s not forget that Trump has stated recently that he wants Canada to be part of America and hasn’t ruled out force to acquire Greenland. So is it any wonder that other regimes find it necessary to have the means to protect themselves from him. If he had more sense he would use soft power to influence other countries ( which is what China does) not brute force.

Lolly67 Mon 23-Jun-25 16:13:23

Hi I usually browse but anyone who thinks Iran has no friends are deluded their friends being Russia and China Trump is a madman and a criminal along with his sidekick Netanyahu who wants a much bigger piece of the middle east so unfortunately I don't see there being peace it's scarey I have a nineteen year old grandson whose future I fear for like I'm sure many of you do too. The Americans are strutting around like peacocks this isn't going away from my perspective Netanyahu and the ultras in Israeli government need to go Israeli people are suffering too but their government is being helped by the useful idiot in the white house we all need to pray that china and Russia stay out of this but if Israel keep bombing Iran I doubt that very

The irony is that Trump's attack on Iran now means that Iran will definitely build a nuclear weapon.
There is still doubt from experts in the US that there was imminent danger from Iran.
Also Trump acted illegally by not seeking approval from Congress.
By dancing to Netanyahu's tune he has put the whole world in danger and Iran will make sure now that they have a nuclear weapon.

Absolute applause for your take, AGAA4! This is exactly what I was trying to say in a post on this thread.

I could not have put it any clearer. All f-a-c-t-s point to this. Not opinions, thoughts or hopes, just facts. trump completely avoided Congress' approval.

And you better believe Iran will be madly working away to build a bigger and better machine. The attacks have already begun. Next to be struck, the Gulf of Hormuz. Oil folks.

Yes!

I know this sounds really dense but why shouldn’t Iran have nuclear weapons? There’s no reason to think that Israel would be bombed is there? The rest of the world would come down like a ton of bricks on Iran in that situation. It’s called a deterrent? Forgive my stupidity….

ronib, it is not stipidity, it's lack of understanding. Iran is run by Shia Muslims. They believe that when they have destroyed Isreal, not only have they done Gods will, but that it will also bring about the day of judgement when all infidels will come under Gods judgement. So what incentive do they have for peace?

Please do some reading about Judaism and Amalek- and you will ask the same question.

It's not stupidity ronib, it's years of being subjected to the West's view of the world. That psychological tool, "us and them / create a common 'enemy'" to bolster your own support. The west ignores who is actually breaking international law (!) and justifying it when we do!

This is almost exactly the same scenario as W Bush and Iraq in 2003. Then it was over oil under the excuse that they were close to a nuclear bomb / Bin Laden, 45 minutes from striking the UK according to Blair and Bush, etc, etc,
That was based on accuarate info wasn't it?

Hmm, very recently Iran announced they had found a lot of a fairly rare metal; Antimony used in computer chips and batteries.
For a Western, not western blinkered view, have a look at interviews on You Tube with American, Noam Chomsky (e.g. 14 years ago, his talk to UCL). His views are thoughtful, consistant and insightful.

Iran has been "cruising for a bruising" for a long time and by a lot of people: a thorn in the side of Israel for a long time.
Trump has gone up in my approval, or learning the job better. Decisive action was need to thwart Iran's support for terrorist .groups.

Good grief, analyse what you’re stating!

Well said Boz 😃
And ignore the angry calls for analysis (I often wonder if posters think they’re in a debating contest.)

Oreo Mon 23-Jun-25 15:39:53

There’s a clock in Tehran that ticks down to the time of the destruction of Israel, it was just caught by a missile blast.
They’ll have to make another one🤔
Am hoping as a lot of Iranians are for a regime change, but the bombing of all their nuclear sites will do for now.
For those posters saying ‘they’ll go flat out now for full nuclear capabilities’ alert….that’s exactly what they were doing before they were stopped.

I think it is Trump himself who is aiming for the Nobel Peace Prize, Read the "tweet" he posted overnight.

Reuters - Unusual activity was seen by satellite around the Fordo site on Thursday and Friday. Lorries were lined up around the site which could mean the uranium was moved as the Iranians said.
A scientist has said even if the US have blown up the bomb it will only put the Iranian schedule back by a few years.
I don't think this will have been the success that Trump thinks he has had.

How, exactly, is Iran able to retaliate? Why is the situation so worrying? I don't quite get it.

If Trump has incapacitated any nuclear weapons the Iranians might have had, what have they got left? Some missiles which might not have the ability to reach America?

Please somebody explain why the situation is so dangerous.

There are more ways to wage a war. The control of shipping routes, digital targeting, nobody being safe wherever there are USA facilities, targeting airplanes, etc. It is also provocative when big guns like Russia and China aren't onside. It is only going to take one wrong action and WW3 will erupt. It will also be just another generation who will be anti the West and ready to do damage wherever they can. At the moment, who can blame them?

Allira Mon 23-Jun-25 14:34:56

I predict he won't.

IMO, it’s all due to power mad, power hungry, dictators, Trump, Netanyahu, Putin - all crazy leaders, wanting more and more power, all taunting each other and playing some insane game which will have knock on effects on us all.

All getting on in years and trying to make their mark in the world and ensure their place in history before they depart this earth.
Never mind the rest of us.

It appears that Keir Starmer is verbally backing Trump. That doesn't augur well

Next he'll be wearing a flying jacket and walking with his fingertips in his jeans front pockets while he follows Trump around the Whitehouse gardens a la Blair and Bush during the Iraq "weapons of mass destruction" subterfuge.
