I have no idea why Rachel Reeves was so upset in the commons. Whether it was personal issues or work related is not my business.
But I was disgusted that kemi badenoch used her distress to score political points.

Anniebach Sat 05-Jul-25 10:25:21

Some here are in full agreement with Katie Hopkin, she ridicules Rachel Reeves too

I know some people donโ€™t rely on that WFA money, instead, earmarking towards a nice little break.
I know my friend said the gas bottle would have lasted a few weeks, using it carefully.

Don't worry Whitewave. I'm the master(?) of being pathetic, so tough luck! I've beaten you to it.

The fact is that nobody on GN knows why she was upset. Reasons given are speculation.

They are, but reasoned speculation I think.

๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„

I've heard she was upset because her pet stick insect had just died.

Whitewavemark2
You are pathetic as usual. Will you ever grow up?

Apologies! I should have directed my comment to Growstuff who is the master of stupid and juvenile comments!
So sorry, Whitewavemark2

๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„ so am I still as usual pathetic.

Try reading the intolerance thread.

You carry on. This is the first thing I read this morning and it made me smile. Good to see you haven't had a sense of humour by-pass.

Anybody who watched PMQ live would have seen Rachel nodding along to Starmer as he spoke and pointing and laughing at Kemi when she spoke. She only broke down when Starmer was speaking. She didnโ€™t look too happy from the beginning of the session and Rayner sat stony faced and ignored her distress whereas the MP sitting behind her reached out to ask if she was ok. Whatever the cause of her distress her own party should have made her excuses and not place her in front of the cameras. Remember others in the chamber didnโ€™t know she was having problems so it was an ordinary session to them

Allsorts Sat 05-Jul-25 07:32:44

I agree Badenoch comes over as cold.

Allsorts Sat 05-Jul-25 07:31:19

Why did she go if so upset or ill. You have to be professional if in such a position, The fact that everyone is commenting Growstuff is because no one in such an important position has behaved like that before in the house. It doesn't inspire any confidence, She should not have gone.

So why does this thread exist? Why is everyone commenting?

Good question! At least she didn't wear a green trouser suit!

Whatever, there was a remarkable recovery the next day. If it had been something awful like a death in the family I doubt this would have been possible.

Sorry, but in professional life we put ou professional face on, like it or not. Reeves shouldโ€™ve held herself together but Badenoch is a cold bitch anyway. Nothing new there.

tinaf1 Fri 04-Jul-25 23:07:19

Just one question if as she has stated in a tv interview the reason for her meltdown was for personal reasons and I would assume that it must have been quite dire for her to breakdown in the House of Commons while on national tv how come she has appeared one day later looking very chipper while appearing with KS and Wes Streeting
Surely if the news was that upsetting anyone else would be taking some time to deal with this .
No one would begrudge her this.

Keir Starmer had his back to Rachel Reeves and was concentrating on the questions being asked by the people in front of him. She obviously felt she should make the effort to attend, however she was feeling, and found in the event that her emotions were too much for her - this could happen to anybody. If the cause of her distress was something to do with her job, we'll hear soon enough. If it was personal, as she says, it's none of our business.

Its a tough job and she obviously canโ€™t handle it, she should not have attended the house if she felt so ill and fragile.

Thatโ€™s your view Allsorts.
I donโ€™t agree with you but who knows which of us reached as close as it gets to reality
Ive known ex ellent professionals who have momentarily been overwhelmed but rallied and been even better as a result. Sometimes we donโ€™t acknowledge how โ€˜ill and fragileโ€™ we feel because we are so used to ignoring, hiding our feelings till they trip us up

Mollygo Fri 04-Jul-25 18:16:54

She should have quietly left the house โ€ฆand composed herself! Not professional to sit and weep!

Since the upset appeared to be of some duration, not entering the house would have been more sensible, unless she knew KS would be annoyed. Though evidently he wouldnโ€™t have noticed.

Badenochs total lack of Empathy and gung ho, inappropriate behaviour reminded me of someone I know with autism.

growstuff I would expect some form of acknowledgement from my peers either side of I was obviously upset and openly crying.

The PM and his deputy didnโ€™t notice sorry I do not buy that explanation.

TBH I don't need any explanation. Reeves' distress is none of my business. For all anybody knows, Starmer and Rayner had talked to her beforehand, but she'd said she was OK. It really annoys me that people seem to think that anybody in the public eye is like some kind of character in a soap opera and the public is entitled to speculate about reasons and motivation etc etc.
