I have no idea why Rachel Reeves was so upset in the commons. Whether it was personal issues or work related is not my business.
But I was disgusted that kemi badenoch used her distress to score political points.

Isn't that what politics is all about? Scoring points off the other side.

Anniebach Thu 03-Jul-25 15:03:41

Surely political points not personal

ayse Thu 03-Jul-25 15:05:45

It’s just bad manners to make personal remarks! That’s what I’ve always been taught and that is what I’ve bought my children and Grandchildren to do as well.

Congratulations to Ms Reeves for coming to The House to do her job.

I was disgusted with Badenoch too. She was a total bi*ch to Rachel Reeves and definitely gloated at the poor woman’s distress. I felt very sorry for Ms Reeves (even though I have no definite opinion of her either way) but Badenoch’s behaviour must be dealt with. She should be disciplined for sure. Nasty piece of work.

I agree, it was very rude and unkind to draw attention to the level of distress. Badenoch did herself no favours
Reeves is back at work today and presenting well. We are told it was a personal matter. Most of us will have been overwhelmed at some point. Let’s hope she gets support and is able to continue her very tough job

I’m no economist but the news at lunch time was reporting the markets picked up when it was confirmed she will remain in post

Samsara1 Thu 03-Jul-25 15:19:27

I agree with Crosstitchfan Ms Badenoch's behaviour was not in th best traditions of the house and in plain language yes she was a 'total b***).
I have been in a position in a very important meeting where I was totally overwhelmed its a horrible place to be. I'm glad to see Rachel back on form today and I hope her issue is resolved.

Mt61 Thu 03-Jul-25 15:21:04

Yes it wasn’t kind of KB. Then again KS did nothing to ease her stress, total robot.

LizzieDrip Thu 03-Jul-25 15:23:11

Good point crossstichfan👏

I think in any other line of work she would probably be hauled in by HR for bullying.

Just imagine speaking to someone in a staff meeting like that - someone you could clearly see was already distressed.

Unbelievable!

Rocknroll5me Thu 03-Jul-25 15:42:26

I agree did Badinoch did herself no favors. I can remember 3 women politicians shedding a tear. Thatcher, May and now Reeves. The first two I feel sure were activated by a sense of failure and betrayal by colleagues. I suspect it is similar with Reeves. All women who put their heart and soul into politics against the odds. It doesn’t make one feel less of them.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 03-Jul-25 15:44:46

Kicking someone when they are clearly in distress is not the same as political point scoring.

Badenoch is one of the worst performers in parliament in a long time.

Ilovecheese Thu 03-Jul-25 15:47:23

I am no fan of Rachel Reeves but Kemi Badenoch behaved very badly. It was not a good look.

kjmpde Thu 03-Jul-25 15:47:34

Kemi Badinoch was very rude
If that does not stop someone voting for her then I don't know what will

Absolutely! I couldn’t believe the unkind drivel Badenoch spouted afterwards. I am not a violent person but I wanted to smack her smug face. How anyone could be so unkind and unfeeling to someone who is obviously upset is a mystery.
I wonder if it will affect her popularity (I’m assuming someone somewhere likes her). Hope it does!

Mind you, there will be plenty of upset people who rely on WFA & disability payments- she will know how it feels- so not much sympathy from me.

I hope they don't make too much of a fuss about it or Badenoch will be round to sneer at them and kick them in the teeth.

AGAA4 Thu 03-Jul-25 16:28:13

I felt sorry for her. I hate to see people visibly upset. We all have times when things get too much but luckily we don't have to sit on the front bench at PMQs.
Badenoch just showed what a vitriolic person she is.

Mt61 Thu 03-Jul-25 16:29:59

Ha yes she probably will.

Nice to know there is a human being hiding in there. I thought she was a tough thing

Iam64 Thu 03-Jul-25 16:37:24

Interesting that so far on Gransnet, posters are less critical, even supportive of Rachel Reeves than Kemi Badenoch.
Reeves is back looking positive at work today. Badenoch did herself no favours - again

LizzieDrip Thu 03-Jul-25 16:48:37

Very interesting take on the situation from The Independent:

Whitewavemark2 Thu 03-Jul-25 16:50:16

I give Badenoch 2 years at the most. Mind you who on earth will replace her. They are all a bit grim.

mrsmeldrew Thu 03-Jul-25 16:52:36

Hugh Sykes of the BBC asked Keir Starmer what was the issue with Rachel Reeves distress.

BBC have really sunk to new depths (already low to start with).

Whitewavemark2 Thu 03-Jul-25 17:04:09

The BBC need a total clear out of the top management.
