I have no idea why Rachel Reeves was so upset in the commons. Whether it was personal issues or work related is not my business.
But I was disgusted that kemi badenoch used her distress to score political points.

I so totally agree Ellie Anne For goodness sake, can't politicians be allowed to be human beings? It was spiteful point scoring, whatever we think of RR's politics.

I think that just about everything she has done since taking this role has been wrong ending up in this welfare bill debacle.
Going after the disadvantaged in society, scrabbling around for money yet going after the easy pickings instead of the very wealthy.
Taxes going up across the board from the Autumn would have been better, it could have been said that tho they didn’t want to raise taxes, the Ukraine war and other factors make it necessary.
Putting up NI for employers hasn’t helped businesses or people looking for jobs.
In this first year I can’t think of a worst Chancellor.

I have no sympathy for her, tbh. She’s in a top job but well out of her depth. The country relies on her to be strong.
That image of her crying will have gone all round the world.

Ohh here we go again Poor Angela Rayner when will people stop having a pop at her for everything If the sky fell in it would be her fault

Feel sorry for RachelReeves it’s no fun to feel emotional in pubic whatever the cause and none of our blooming business whether she’s a saint or a sinner in her own life
We can like or dislike her views and actions but just leave her private emotions private in my opinion

I give Badenoch 2 years at the most. Mind you who on earth will replace her. They are all a bit grim.

Give RR less than that.

Yes, once any PM speaks about having ‘full confidence’ in someone or other, it’s usually the kiss of death.

I am not a fan of Angela Rayner, I would have had more respect for her if she had acknowledged RR’s distress. The same goes for the PM, I do not buy into the excuses that they didn’t notice/know

All it would have taken was a hand on her arm, like the hand on RR’s shoulder from the MP immediately behind her.

I was watching AR she looked like she had a smirk on her face.
I heard RR had words with the speaker of the house. That’s why she was so upset.

You have to hand it to Kemi Badenoch though, she has managed to make people feel sympathy for a woman that wanted to take money away from disabled people .

That takes some doing. Perhaps another part of KS’s cunning plan?

Aveline Thu 03-Jul-25 21:38:10

Kemi Badenoch is single handedly losing votes for Conservatives. They need to get rid of her.

I daresay that the Party Whips have reduced many a male MP to tears but that would be in private.

I agree with Crosstitchfan Ms Badenoch's behaviour was not in th best traditions of the house and in plain language yes she was a 'total b***).
I have been in a position in a very important meeting where I was totally overwhelmed its a horrible place to be. I'm glad to see Rachel back on form today and I hope her issue is resolved.

Badenoch showed the country who she is. :-((((

Labradora Thu 03-Jul-25 20:44:53

I have seen only the clip of PMQs that showed RR's tearful face. rather than the whole PMQs.
Isn't the problem that the British Chancellor of the Exchequer is crying in Parliament for the whole world including the Money Markets to see ?
Obviously on a personal level I have huge sympathy for Ms Reeves . I was and remain thrilled to have a competent chancellor who is a woman.
The fact is that her demeanour affects the markets and although they were glad on this occasion that she wasn't being ditched for a leftie, they may be less impressed if they think that she's not up to the pressure of the job.
This needs to be a one-off , I think.
I 've only heard about Badenoch's behaviour. She'd have done herself more good by showing compassion. We all know she's tough. The tough can also be merciful.

He didn’t notice how upset she looked? That says a lot about his perception.

He didn’t say he didn’t know how distressed she was before they went into the chamber did he? Perhaps she should not have gone in, but if she wanted to, it’s quite feasible that once OMQ started he didn’t look at her, being focussed on what was happening. That is just as likely as the scenario you paint, which seems determined to blame him.

Me too, very nasty when someone is so upset and distressed.

He didn't see her crying. Mollygo That's all I'm saying. He said he didn't and I believe him.
She wiped away a couple of tears but she wasn't bawling or shaking with sobs.

Mollygo Thu 03-Jul-25 20:05:49

Grammaretto

Do you think Kemi will apologise? She surely should.
Keir has apologised. He said he hadn't noticed she was weeping. I get that because you don't see someone beside you.

Did he sidle in to his seat, feet going side- together, side-together so he didn’t see anyone behind or next to him? I know that’s how you get to your seat along a pew at church, but he was on the front row, so normal walking would be possible.

I’m trying to picture KS walking to his seat and not seeing anyone in his party.

On a woman to woman level I felt sorry for her yesterday but as Chancellor it was dangerous. She may come out of this ok but only if she starts making some better decisions economically.

The markets don’t agree with you.

So I am assuming that you think that Reeves fiscal policy is incorrect?
