I have no idea why Rachel Reeves was so upset in the commons. Whether it was personal issues or work related is not my business.
But I was disgusted that kemi badenoch used her distress to score political points.

What’s happened to Rachel Reeves 🤣

PoliticsNerd Fri 11-Jul-25 17:19:11

I think that British English, being a higher context language than say, American English, makes it more difficult for us to communicate on the internet. Text-based communication (like emails, social media, forums) often strips away many contextual cues present in face-to-face interactions, making high-context language traits sometimes harder to interpret.

it was tongue it was tongue in cheek, but you’re right, it didn’t look good in print! Sorry.

Please grow up and stop arguing, all of you!

Yes Miss!
Although telling people what they should do or how they should feel doesn’t go down too well on here!

You said you felt . . .
You accused me of gaslighting, and you see no problem with that?confused
You don’t need to feel that on my account, though obviously I can’t tell you not to or stop you if you’re determined to feel that way. grin

Don't bother feeling gaslighted on my account, PN.
GN posters aren’t important enough in my life for doing that.

I separated the two parts of the answer and didn’t look up the poster (it was WWM2 ) who said the second part. You obviously can’t answer for WWM2.
However, since the statement wasn’t attributed to anyone, but just a general question, I take it that you don’t agree with WWM2 about a total clear out at the top of the BBC.

Don't you see that telling someone how they should feel is a little odd? I didn't ask for your opinion, just told you how you made me feel.

And no, I didn't agree with that particular suggestion, but then, if you had read my previous posts that would have been obvious.

I think you may be attributing someone else's post to me Mollygo. I'm beginning to feel a little gaslightedconfused I certainly didn't say The BBC should have a total clear out of top management so cannot answer your question about who the author of that comment would replace them with.

Thankfully Rachel Reeves is a human being. I do wonder if some of the posters on here are.

I’m sure they are, even those who have suffered under her decisions.

The BBC should have a total clear out of top management?
And replace them with what?
That’s like having a general election where you don’t know what changes will ensue.
Certainly, they’ll never suit everyone.

The BBC need a total clear out of the top management.

Agree. The licence fee should be abandoned and they can advertise like other companies or payments could be made for access if wanted.

Agree, the BBC is far to liberal in its bias.

PoliticsNerd Thu 10-Jul-25 10:39:28

I'm sure both the left and right extremists would agree with you Whitewavemark2 and Lovetopaint037. However, by doing that you open up to whichever extreme you don't agree with.

I don't have any political allegiance, but I also found Kemi Badenoch's behaviour really distasteful. I think that Rachel Reeves' crying in public was unfortunate, but that no person (male or female) should have sneered at her to her face to take advantage of this. I don't know that any other public figure would want to be seen behaving in such a disgusting, cruel way.

Luckily, I am coming the other way, after 8 weeks abroad, but Rachel Reeves has been responsible for the plummeting exchange rate at the end of my stay. Hopefully it will now pick up for those off on their summer holidays.

When I stay at my partners there are lots of level crossings and we often see lots of containers being transported by rail ( mainly Tescos for some reason). And I always think of Barbara Castle who felt that freight needed to be transported by road and rail because rail was so much better for the environment.

Anniebach Mon 07-Jul-25 22:00:57

She was First Secretary of State, I think the first woman and I can’t recall another woman following her , it was the 60’s so sometime ago

Pantglas2 Mon 07-Jul-25 21:30:39

I had high hopes of her becoming the first female prime minister Maybee - imagine the impact that would have had on the Labour Party! There might even have been a few more after her…Shirley Williams, Margaret Beckett, Harriet Harman?

MayBee70 Mon 07-Jul-25 21:22:22

Barbara Castle; one of the most underrated politicians in recent history.

eazybee Mon 07-Jul-25 19:47:36

The trouble was, Barbara Castle was ^not ^allowed to get things done. 'In Place of Strife' was so sensible.
Completely ignored.

Oreo Mon 07-Jul-25 19:32:12

The Thick Of It was brilliant 😂

Glad you’re not PM withnobson

WithNobsOnIt Sun 06-Jul-25 15:47:50

No idea what Rachel Reeves was crying about and to be honest l dont care and l am not interested.

However she doesn't strike me as the Shrinking Violet type and is definitely one of Keir's girls.

Well for this week.Thst is.

Rachael seens like an ex Girl Guide with no fashion sense and a pussy cat compared to the horrendous appalling and ill informed Angela Raynor.
A Margaret Thatcher clone in the.malking?

Pass the sick bag Alice as Private Eye used to say

God help us if she gets to be PM.

As for Kemi Badenioch she would eat any one for breakfast on dry toast, washed diwn with a cup a cup of cold tea. But at least you with Kemi, you know what she us about.

If you can. Do watch old episodes of the BBC prog The Thick of It. Send up.of the political process with great characters and actord Loads of bad language but hilarious

Am bow getting older myself and think back.to.some of the older respescted women politicians who got things done like the incomparable no nonsense Barbara Csstle

^DrWatson There is no valid argument that anyone should be made to have a good cry at all^

Totally agree Allira 👏👏👏

So do I. Making someone cry is a horrible thing to do, and says a lot about the person who wants to do so.
