No government gives money to another without expecting something back. They all do it, but those who take the £££s are then left beholden. No one wants to criticise or bite the hand which feeds them. It’s completely unacceptable.
You can’t have it all ways!
They all do it…..but it’s unacceptable if it’s from Israel, is that your thinking?

Apologies.13 of the 22 cabinet ministers are funded.
Over half not a quarter , I don’t need to google I have been a
Paid up member for many years and have campaigned at every
general election since the 50’s. Been to many conferences, was at the conference when the results of an enquiry on antisemitism in the party was given

What I will question those in the party is your claim of “Israeli cosh” , really troubling for Labour party yes ?
Interesting, depressing but not surprising that pro Palestine posters are angry about donations given to the Labour Party by Jews. It’s taken Starmer a long time to rid Labour of the anti-Semites within the Party and donations are welcome from many businesses and people even if from Israel.

Didn't have to go back to Facebook. Simply googled, 'Did UK politicians receive donations from Israeli connections?'.
There are lots of articles to read. Chose the one from 'Jewish Voice for Labour' and the result is there for any of you to check up for yourself.
It’s all above board then, so don’t try and blacken any Labour or any MP’s by suggestions of interference or foreign influences.
This goes way beyond support for Palestinians.
Israel is a friend and ally of the UK.
It all comes down to money in the end. Israel is a rich country and Gaza is extremely needy so it seems Israel can do what it likes.
We can't know how much influence they have but I agree accepting money or other gifts is totally unacceptable. It's not just labour of course other parties do the same.
Elbit systems is one the the largest Israeli major arms manufacturer with sites in the uk, two of which are in Kent.
This company is exempt from British arms restrictions, so they carry on as normal.
The only reason to fund another country’s government is to influence political decisions in their favour. What other reason would there be. . It absolutely should not be allowed.

That’s shocking, over half of our cabinet ministers are funded by Israel….
Blimey😮 I am pretty shocked by that.
I do know that the U.K. and Israel cooperate a lot in the high tech area.
But I do think that funding of MPs must influence them - because presumably if an individual speaks out against the Israeli governments actions they would take away the funding.
It really is time to re-think this whole funding business.

Okay AnnieB, I accept that you don't want to read a book written by a Palestinan, for your own private reasons, so why not have a look at an article written by a Jewish person, a former Israeli PM. It's also in the Guardian, entitled,
'Humanitarian city would be a concentration camp for Palestinians'.
Now surely nobody can credibly accuse this writer of being 'anti-semitic'.
I will not read the book , I don’t read “Author anonymous”
I looked for info on the former Israeli PM, he is of the left, be so like reading book about a Labour PM by a Tory or book on a Tory PM by a Labour supporter
Eh? Do you mean Ehud Olmert? I don't know where you found information about him, but Google (and other sources) state that he used to be a member of Liku (Netanyahu's party), but left to form a new party called Kadima, which Google describes as "Kadima (Hebrew: קדימה, lit. 'Forward') was a centrist and liberal political party in Israel. It was established on 24 November 2005 by moderates from Likud" That doesn't sound very much "of the left" to me, although I suppose it depends where you're starting from.

That was in response to an earlier post about did Israel have any influence in our government.
Why not look it up for yourself AnnieB?

The Jewish voice for Labour has said that pro Israel lobbyists have funded
around a quarter of Keir Starmer's MPs. I wonder how much influence they have on our government?
Funding over 100 Labour MP’s !
I just googled and bingo, up it popped. ‘A woman in Berlin’. 1945.
Availabile for £3.50.

There was a German woman who wrote a book anonymously about the rape of women in Berlin by the Russian army at the end of the war because of what I assume to be her shame, which of course wasn’t her shame. Her name was only revealed after she died.
I had the book, lent it out and never saw it again, so can’t give its title. Maybe I will google.
Normally 'anonymous' would put me off, but I read his gentle, trying to be uplifting, posts every day.

Other diarists from Gaza, who are not anonymous, have had books published too, if anyone is interested.
