bmacca, I apologise. You are right., and I was wrong. I was thinking only of popular public opinion.

Even then, I have been biased in my calculations by Gransnet responses which are from almost the same subscribers throughout.

I do wonder a little about the many Gnet subscribers who are apparently not interested in the topic.

Many choose not to post but doesn’t mean not interested ,

‘Some’ will never change their views and will ignore anything which does not agree with their rigid beliefs.

bmacca Thu 24-Jul-25 12:31:38

Caleo - unfortunately it does matter because USA and most Western countries are defending Israel. The level of criticism has certainly increased but they haven’t taken any decisive action to stop Israel.

Caleo Thu 24-Jul-25 12:27:59

Who are they? And do they matter?

bmacca Thu 24-Jul-25 12:08:32

Caleo - unfortunately some still appear to defend Israel’s actions

Caleo Thu 24-Jul-25 12:06:19

The Knesset may be afraid of a military coup

Caleo Thu 24-Jul-25 12:03:11

bmacca , does anyone still defend Israel ruled as it is by a fascist Knesset?

MayBee70 Thu 24-Jul-25 12:01:05

It’s beyond me how a people that have known persecution themselves then do the same to others…sad. What is happening to the Palestinians is beyond belief and the world is watching and doing nothing. It’s why I can’t watch the news these days. I just feel helpless.

Smileless2012 Thu 24-Jul-25 10:57:44

That was 77 years ago Annie; what's the relevance to the current genocide in Gaza?

bmacca Thu 24-Jul-25 10:42:22

I really find it hard to believe that anyone is still defending Israel when they are using starvation as a weapon of war, ethnic cleansing and genocide. Most decent people, those with an ounce of humanity, don’t sleep at night because of the horror images coming out of Gaza inflicted on men, women and children by a genocidal, terror state.

It takes two sides to be a war and there is only one aggressor now. Gaza has been flattened and yet Israel carry on with the attacks even though the IDF has said they have done everything militarily possible in Gaza.
Those in the Knesset on the extreme right are carrying on with their aim of ridding Gaza of all Palestinians.

Maremia Thu 24-Jul-25 10:26:23

I wonder, what is the way out now for the persecution of the Palestinians?

The truth will always come out however hard the Israeli government tries to suppress it. The main newspapers in Israel are showing pictures, soldiers in the IDF who are horrified by what they are witnessing in Gaza are taking photos and documenting the situation, some are refusing to follow orders. Thank goodness not every Israeli agrees with what is happening and there are protests in most major cities. Hopefully, this dreadful war will stop, Netanyahu and the extremists will get kicked out and Israel will return to talking about a future for themselves and for the Palestinians that does not involve wars. I think we have to try to believe there is a way out of this but it has to involve negotiation not guns and bombs.

Israel was the way out from persecution of Jews 1948 then
5 Arab countries declared war ,

I just googled 'Gaza Genocide denial' and there is a variety of articles to read.
The one I chose was printed in 'The Jewish Voice for Labour' which begins,
'The dam of Gaza genocide denial has broken'.
Worth a read for those who find it difficult to accept what is happening in real time in Gaza.

Israel has accused Ocha of bias, with the Israeli ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, saying this week there was "clear evidence of Hamas affiliations within Ocha’s ranks"

Anniebach and of course the Israeli ambassador is completely objective and unbiased!!!

Why should he be believed any more than the UN’s humanitarian agency?

UN quote Hamas

Whitewavemark2 Thu 24-Jul-25 09:10:39

After listening to various Israeli spokespersons flat out denying that there was hunger in Gaza.

How can you believe anything that they say, when we can see it with our own eyes?

Maremia Thu 24-Jul-25 09:09:40

Pizzaball, who has actually been into Gaza continues,
'We walked through the dust of ruins, past collapsed buildings and tents everywhere...tents that have become homes for those who have lost everything.'

If aid was getting through people wouldn't be "lying in the streets starving".
Israel carry on lying in the face of condemnation by so many countries.

Anniebach Thu 24-Jul-25 08:54:49

The UN's humanitarian agency, Ocha, released a new update last night - warning that the level of aid getting into Gaza is "a trickle" compared to the huge level of need.
"Ocha warns that the hunger crisis in Gaza has never been so dire," it said. "All too often, civilians approaching UN trucks are shot at."
Israel has accused Ocha of bias, with the Israeli ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, saying this week there was "clear evidence of Hamas affiliations within Ocha’s ranks".

Maremia Thu 24-Jul-25 08:49:52

From that same sad article, from people who have actually managed to go into Gaza,
'At the news conference Pizzaballa noted that Christians were sufferingn the same way as other Palestinians.
Although Italy's foreign ministry announced that the patriarchs had entered Gaza with 500 tonnes of aid, Pizzaballa said that 'not a gram' had yet been able to enter due to logistical issues.'

AGAA4 Thu 24-Jul-25 08:31:32

Church leaders in Jerusalem have returned from a visit to Gaza with "broken hearts". Starving children lying in the streets who don't bat an eyelid when the bombs fall.
Men standing for hours in the hot sun hoping to get some food for their children.
These are men from Israel who have been horrified by what they have seen in Gaza. Hopefully they will spread that news as far as they can throughout Israel.

So how does the IDF defends its claims that it only targets Hamas, if it doesn't know who they are?

Have they said they target women and children ? No,, but Hamas does hide in hospitals and schools, fact
I didn't write that they target women and children, but the IDF claims that it targets Hamas - it doesn't. The IDF has no idea whether there are any Hamas operatives in the specific hospitals and schools it has bombed. It's "carpet bombing" and it just seems to hope that some of the killed were Hamas.
