Oh well William Pitt the Younger was PM in his early 20s. Anyway shouldn't they all be Labour supporters at their age shock

Why do you say that? It doesn't seem very relevant.

Mhairi Black was only 20 when she was elected as an MP, and she was celebrated for her youth and vitality as I recall.
Age isn’t the issue here.

But she wasn't given any real responsibility.

I’d suggest her constituents would hope she’d be responsible for promoting their interests. Is any MP not in a position of responsibility, surely that’s what they’re paid for.

Yes, she was good at that, but she never had any portfolio, for which she was responsible,

He's not much more than a child himself. What experience can he possibly bring to that role.

Being a child?
After all, he hasn't had that long to forget what it's like.

He's also a registered landlord, so maybe doesn't have the same experience of life as those children needing social care.

How many heads of Children’s services have experienced the same life as the children needing social care?

Very true, but I would expect them to have had experience of life. Many heads of children's services come from an education or social work background. Allira was trying to say that being a child meant that he better experience. I hope he knows how to read a balance sheet.

BlueBelle They'll be absolutely fine as long as they don't need any form of social care.

Doubt they'll need social care - more like childcare hmm

It's the other one (22 year old) who's in charge of adult social care.

We’ve got one of a similar age on our local council. Got elected because he talked a lot about a local issue that’s causing a lot of problems but it will be interesting to see if he does anything about it.

The same council also has a 22 year old Reform councillor as Deputy Council Leader and holder of the adult social care portfolio. He allegedly expressed the view that depression isn't real.

BlueBelle Sat 05-Jul-25 15:33:31

That’s totally ridiculous I do hope people who are so keen on Reform !!! read and digest this

Reform councillor Charles Pugsley, 19, has been given charge of Children's and Family Services.

It's happening at Leicestershire County Council and it's in today's Guardian.

This way to the Mad Hatters Tea Party......
