I am a little surprised to see that you prefer a convicted sex offender who has links with a convicted paedophile, to the Prime Minister, Ms Menopausel.

Keep Trump out of the UK!
(109 Posts)It’s official: Donald Trump will make a state visit to the UK from 17–19 September. King Charles will host the United States’ noxious President at Windsor Castle
I am quoting from an Open Britain email:
"Let’s be absolutely clear. Donald Trump has:
^Threatened to deport his political enemies
Enriched his friends on the public dime
Brutally crushed protests and militarised America’s streets
Detained and deported people without legal due process
Undermined and attempted to overturn legitimate election results
Pardoned insurrectionists, legitimised war criminals, and praised dictators
Fanned dangerous and racist conspiracy theories
Governed through fear and vengeance^
There’s absolutely no reason a leader like that should come here and speak down to us.
If you want to sign a petition to Block this State visit, you can ^visit the 38 degrees web site. It's not proper for me to give a direct reference here^
A previous petition, which was to block Trump from visiting when Sunak was in power, gained 1,863,708 signatures.
Regretfully, I was unable to find a petition welcoming Trump to Britain so cannot give you directions.

I have to ask what these petitioners think might be achieved by keeping him out?
Can you think of any positive outcomes from that?
It might make you feel better personally to state that you hate the idiot, but that is pure window dressing and personal aggrandizement. It will not help the UK one bit.
👏👏👏
And I still prefer him over Starmer.

Agree,never voted for them,never will
Yes jocork, he hated the paucity of support at his Parody Parade.

The visit is going to happen whether we like it or not, Trump will be helicoptered everywhere and have minimal public contact. Protests will achieve nothing, let’s face it at least half of US citizens hate him, the fact that many Brits hate him is no worry to him.
Protests will not only achieve nothing but would likely cost our nation financially. Protests would have to be policed at huge cost, taking the police away from their other duties. Trump revels in his notoriety. The most effective way to deal with him is to ignore as best we can. That will disappoint him far more. Sadly I think protests are inevitable and we will all pay the price!
I dislike the man intensely and could not believe how he could be elected for a second term BUT he is probably the most important leader in the world and unfortunately this means for purely common sense reasons this country has to maintain good relations with him. We should be thankful he appears to want this.
Nope. But…he continues to lie about even the most trivial thing. He is not connected to the real world. That is why they photographed him driving a trash truck and working at MacDonald’s. Trying to make low paid workers think he was connecting to them. He is in trouble now with all of the accusations of his friendship and participation in the Jeffrey Epstein lifestyle. Remember, Trump goes way back in the US and he left a trail of evidence behind him. Now, as President, he is trying to pretend he was not involved in anything illegal. Hahahahaha…if you only knew!
He is a friend ONLY when he gets something in return. He is a despicable human being!
He obviously wants something. Perhaps more money for Ukraine. Trump is a grandstander and need to think he is important to King Charles and the Royal Family. As an American of British Ancestry, I do not, in any way, support Trump and while your list is impressive, you forgot to mention that he is also a convicted Felon. I guess Charles will be gracious but I cannot imagine William or Catherine wanting to interact with him, especially Catherine since she is aware of his criminal background. Good Luck and thank goodness he is out of America, even for a day!

It's called an election. Labour won by quite a distance.

A lot of toxic thoughts on here. We cannot afford to alienate the U. S. It would make more sense to ban this cruel, obnoxious government we have in this country.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Junglebub I quite agree!

I don't really want to get political but I would not stop Trump from coming here as I think it is the diplomatic thing to do. I do not like the man and I think many of those who voted for him are now having regrets, but he is the POTUS and USA is an ally and it is better to be with him than against.
I have to travel to London on the 19th for my son's Graduation award so I am hoping Mr. T does not get in the way of that.

I feel exactly the same as you Teazel2 he needs to be welcomed here.
This petition and protest rallies are rude and disrespectful Donald Trump, whatever your personal feelings towards him, America is an ally and he is their President.
I thought it was outrageous that Sadiq Khan flew that ludicrous Trump baby blimp balloon when he last visited. What a very uneducated man Khan is!
I do agree about Sadiq Khan, he needs to be gone!
valdavi I took part in an anti Vietnam protest march on 17 March 1968 which ended outside the American Embassy in Grosvenor Square, London, England. I like to think that me shouting "Hey! Hey! LBJ how many kids have you killed today"
may have gone towards expressing international disapproval, albeit in a very small way.
Too late.
He’s been and gone.

Marches don’t influence policy, particularly foreign policy. If you think about it, it’s the government’s job to decide on that and not popular public opinion.
The same goes for State visits where diplomacy is the order of the day.
The only marches or protests that may influence policy are on domestic matters where it becomes obvious that there’s a real problem and trouble brewing for the Party in power.
I'm not that knowledgable on the period, but one of the reasons Nixon got out of Vietnam was surely because of the unpopularity of the war at home, especially with people of draft age.
There were lots of anti-war marches which may have influenced foreign policy in the USA at that time. Anyway, what else, once you've written to your MP & received an anodyne answer, can you do?
Whether we like a head of state or not is immaterial.
International diplomacy includes state visits from sovereigns and presidents, as well as from other countries' politicians.
Try to be sensible and realise that enormous offence would be caused by refusing to invite a head of state. And that such offence would only complicate international relations.
What exactly has Trump sorted out for the USA?
I know he has 'sorted out' lots for his family, with his bitcoins and merchandise, but has the price of eggs come down yet?
In some way I hope he does visit and when he, no doubts, makes a public appearance 1000's if people will turn up and literally turn their backs in silent protest. B

Whats this A lefty right wing bashing forum?
What’s a lefty right wing bashing forum? Is it a forum where the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing, or one where you can’t tell your left from your right?
