Afghan mess up

A real blunders- not by a civil servant - but, according to the DT, a Royal Marine responsible for vetting Afghan applicants. And one it took the MOD 18 months to realise and only then by an email from a concerned individual. The disclosure seems to have been widely shared on social media and the Taliban claim to have seen it too. Lives were put at risk and it was right to invite such Afghans to the UK but the case for secrecy and superinjunction was surely weak given the Takiban had the data.

Not clear why that should involve violence.

Like I posted up thread, the locals were holding a peaceful vigil outside the hotel.

It was Antifa members from outside the area who turned up in masks looking for trouble. There was a post on Facebook telling them to meet outside the station at a given time.

^The trouble at this hotel started when an 38 yr old Ethiopian male asylum seeker, was arrested earlier this week and has now been charged with sexual offences involving a school girl.^
Was that The Bell in Epping, GrannyGravy13? DD told me about a man asking the school girls in the High Street if they wanted to make African babies with him.

Yes it is.

The Council, Police and local MP were all made aware, this situation should have been addressed weeks ago.

Violence and thuggery are now manifesting themselves outside accommodation for asylum seekers in Essex.

Police have been injured and protective fencing has been put up.

This happened last summer as a result of incorrect information being given out on SM. escalating into a full scale riot.

One female was imprisoned snd many fined for the nonsense/lies and incitement.

Parents of the C of E school have alerted the police of their concerns numerous times over the last few weeks, of men hanging about outside the school and harassing pupils.

It was peaceful at the beginning, then outsiders turned up…

I want the UK to take all those Afghans who worked with the British Army and now feel vulnerable to the Taliban due to the leaked email list to be able to claim asylum here.I do also want their criminal past, if any, to be investigated (if at all possible) and them to be warned about consequences if they commit crimes here if accepted.I know the HO will say this is the case but the more I see of officialdom the less I believe of it.

My acknowledgment of what you wrote is thus ( I love that word)
Your post was written as if I had once claimed ‘twenty times’.
It’s easy to quote a poster, as you did me, and immediately follow it with something that sounds as if the person being quoted actually wrote it.
Nevertheless I’m glad you went on to say that it wasn’t.

Now you're making things up. (sigh)

growstuff Fri 18-Jul-25 14:32:16

I don't need to take it up with anybody. You seem to think that you're the centre of attention. I didn't target you or anybody else personally.

This time it was about alleged assaults on teenage girls in the town.
The migrant hotel there became a magnet for opposing groups. According to radio 4.

But it isn't anything to do with Afghan asylum seekers. This seems to be an attempt to distract from the topic of the thread, which is how Afghan asylum seekers have been/are being treated.

Do take this up with Whitewavemark2 who introduced this for no real reason that I can see.
It may or may not be anything to do with the subject of Afghan asylum seekers. The Essex hotel used is probably housing a mix of asylum seekers from various countries.

Posted too soon, complete with dyslexic word mix up!
Doesn’t it make you wonder? Are we taking any Afghans at all that would rather live here and have the means to get here?

I assume that's an acknowledgment of what I wrote.

Added to that ( Afghans still managing to claim asylum despite their convictions) the Ministry of Justice says that according to crime figures Afghans are committing 20% more sexual crimes than other nationalities.
Something more to think about.

Another attempt at statistics! Last time it was twenty times more than other nationalities.

The Telegraph article says foreigners commit up to a quarter of sex crimes*. That's true. The stats which were posted before showed 21% of those charged with sex crimes in West Yorkshire are foreigners. However, I looked up the demographic profile of West Yorkshire. 23% of West Yorkshire residents identify as foreigners. If sex offenders are representative of the population, it means that sex offenders are less likely to be foreign.

I do wish Sunak had been successful at boosting understanding of maths!

Who said twenty times more? Not me.
I got the 20% figure from the Ministry of Justice crime figures not from The Telegraph and it wasn’t about West Yorkshire.

Who said twenty times more?

I didn't accuse you.

Oreo Fri 18-Jul-25 14:06:53

I agree with a lot of what you say Wyllow03 but something to consider is there were only just over a thousand ‘badged’ Afghans working with the Army, yet something like 35,000 are either here already or in the pipeline , many more than the UK owes any debt to.This may well be due to bodged asylum applications or the mess created by the leaked lists.Even allowing the badged applicants a wife and family, which many had tho not all, it doesn’t add up.Are they really all Afghans? It doesn’t make you wonder.

If people could only turn it on its head and consider, "these Afghans are mostly totally behind our values, thats why they chose to do the jobs they did".

And yes, despite some bad apples, we should welcome them, not hate them, and do what we can to explain this to those in the public and online who would do nothing but condemn, see the worst in everyone?

Turn your glasses over from glass half empty: to glasses half full: yes we need to reduce numbers coming,

but lets be selective, and the glasses half full bit of us welcome what incomers can really contribute.

Many of the Afghans coming are not only eager to adopt our values, what else did they fight for in Afghanistan?

They are mostly very well educated and in a real position to do good in our communities: one such was interviewed on the radio: superb English of course, and keen to join us, just worried frantic about his wider family back home (his wife had been able to join him),

Yet another shambles, where there does not seem to be any account of how many have entered, how many are genuine claimants, where they are, and if their families are allowed to come too.
This country is being filled up with young men from violent countries, and no track is kept of their whereabouts.

And many of these men will be sex offenders.

Disgusting post.

Fact.

Yes I read that too, it is a fact. 👏👏👏👏👏 well done for being brave enough to post it, as instant racist accusations levelled.
