LizzieDrip, Brexit was never properly implemented, if it had been we wouldn't be in the mess we are in, corruption and betrayal have been rife.

In what ways have promises made to you before the referendum vote not been implemented? What promises were actually made? Who made those promises?

I think we've done pretty well to overcome some of the hurdles which inevitably came our way due to Brexit. At least that shows some resourcefulness, and the UK does exhibit a certain toughness.
I don't think we could have been better prepared because no one knows until in the situation.
Mr Schwab sounds like the rest of them, self serving and arrogant.

Yes those things and also the Pandemic years, the war in Ukraine and the increasing costs of housing immigrants from Afghanistan and those who claim asylum arriving on small boats. The billions we have had to spend have put back any Brexit benefits if we’re talking of the economy.
There are other benefits not linked to money of course which mean we can pick and choose which things we want to do as a country not linked to the EU.Leaving the ECHR may be one such.Make trade deals freely as well.
I didn’t vote for it at the time but since then I think it was very likely the right thing to do.
I haven’t noticed that anything is worse now in any case.

Has anyone considered that Brexit didn't live up to expectations because it wasn't as simple as Leavers were led to believe?

A global conspiracy to make it fail is a wonderful belief. It precludes having to deal with the practicalities of international trade.

We were never meant to prosper.
Mr Schwab wanted the world to see us as a basket case.

I realise it’s all subjective, and I accept that. Nevertheless, if I’d voted in favour of such an important issue I would expect that, 9 years down the line, I’d be able to point to several benefits … particularly if I still supported it.

Surely, if Brexit was such a good thing, the Brexiteers would still be shouting about from the rooftops.

How has Brexit improved lives in the UK?

Oh dear MAGA and the elite - their influence spreads far and wide.

So how to explain the following.

Trade exports to the EU has dropped by over 18%.

Our competitiveness has decreased which will lead to lower productivity and wage growth in the future.

Trade barriers have increased costs to businesses.

The only area that has benefited is NI.

A drop in investment. Businesses prefer access to a huge economic market like the EU.

Some areas have shown more resilience like the service sector.

The has undoubtedly been other impacts on the British economy like covid, the Ukraine war etc, but overall the result it is generally agreed has been negative and continues to be so.

What some call "benefits" others dont.
So it is all subjective.

My two biggest things are things that did not happen. Thankfully.
Which is still a benefit.
People can easily forget of things which could have happened, which is why sometimes, people say, there were no benefits.

For me, we did not get dragged in to an EU army.
Which to me may have not acted as I would have wanted it to.
It could so easily have become an aggressor.

2nd point - far more tied up in EU than we are even now.

And no, as I say[still considering a name change], I will not discuss things and provide endless links, to the nth degree.

Or are you thinking that there's some global conspiracy to keep the UK's economy stagnant?

I seem to recall that before Sir Starmer became PM he is on record as saying he puts DAVOS (WEF) ahead of the U.K. parliament…

Like all political changes, have the majority noticed much difference?

This article is two months old but it was in The Guardian, referring to a letter sent to Schwab resulting in his resignation.

The letter also accused Schwab of manipulating the WEF global competitiveness report in order to curry favour with certain governments. The publication ranks countries based on criteria such as education, infrastructure, labour market and health systems, and is a point of reference for the annual Davos meeting.
