The good news this morning is that Kemi Badenoch is shortly to announce a shadow cabinet reshuffle. It’s expected that James Cleverly will return to the front bench, and possibly some other prominent former ministers. I hope this is a sign that they are moving forward and can form the credible opposition we need, not just to challenge the government but to help put some of the Reform pie in the sky politicking to bed. Fingers crossed.

Farage, as eazybee said, tells the public what it wants to hear. I laughed out loud when I heard him state Reform would reduce crime by 50%, sentence people who have committed three serious offences to life imprisonment and of course, stop the boats. It was like Arabian Nights, tell three fantastical stories each morning.
Yes the government is doing some excellent work. Its comms continue to be dreadful - why?
He is also lying about crime figures, they have actually gone down. Don’t forget he was also claiming he would send prisoners serving life, such as Ian Huntley, to El Salvador. 😃
I agree the comms are appalling, they need to appoint somebody who can turn things around because the way things are going we will end up in the position some local councils are in, possibly before the four years are up.
Finally, we need more journalists like Kevin Maguire and fewer like Carole Malone, Kevin O’Sullivan and the appalling Kelvin MacKenzie.

No not labelling them all...I take people has I find them..if you're nice to me I'll be nice to you....but yes I am concerned about the crime Pakistani immigrants commit in my community.
Going back to the topic...you can have has many shadow cabinet/ cabinet reshuffles has you like unless the government get a grip of the people coming across the channel I predict Reform at the very least will be in opposition. You’re absolutely right and crimes committed by men of Pakistani heritage should be tackled just the same as any other, without fear or favour, no tiptoeing around racial or cultural sensibilities, which we know has happened and may still be continuing for all we know.
None of that has anything to do with the Conservative reshuffle.

Thx Lizzie, nice quote from Maguire in the Mirror, but I suggest you check the circulation figures, as it will make the tiniest blip on the electorate, folk buying the Mirror are ALREADY convinced Labour supporters! It's like a piece in the Telegraph or Distress detailing Badenoch's good points (if there are some), preaching to the converted?!
It's NOT the fault of the rest of us that Starmer's crew have committed massive, significant own goals, with winter heating, benefits, and the utter shambles re immigration, having rightly criticised the Tory shambles and claiming they could instantly fix the problem (a la Trumpist blustering), this year's Channel crossings are at an all-time high!
The folk criticising the BBC - for occasionally quoting Farage - and claiming it's all a Right-wing plot to promote him - seem to have conveniently forgotten that BoJo's assorted blunderings got lots of coverage and helped turn the electorate against Tories?
And they're perfectly entitled to report on Labour backflips and U-Turns, they showed far more Tory ones over the 14 years?!
Sure, Farage should be exposed for the opportunist fraud that he is, so, the other 2 main parties need to expose him - they ARE fulltime politicos, aren't they?!!!
Oh, and those bemoaning the lack of coverage for LibDems and Greens, DO PLEASE GET REAL?! Ed Davey seems a nice chap, but pops up once every month or two to make a quiet suggestion, they should know from their election strategy that they NEED TO GET OUT and MAKE NOISE?
Greens? Who are they, where are they? Hardly anyone knows, and the vast majority see them as linked to the Just Stop Oil barmy fringe, a few councillors wearing sandals and trying to get us all to get our big s'market shop on a bicycle. Good luck with that!
Spot on 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I see Cleverley as a better appointment. What a mess the tories are In
I also see him as a better appointment, but the bar is pretty low.

This thread was supposed to be about the Conservative reshuffle. The only significant move has been Cleverly's return to the shadow cabinet. On balance, I think that's a positive move for the Conservatives - it shows some kind of solidarity and a willingness to include somebody who has had some ministerial experience.
I don't personally rate Cleverly that much, but he is one of the saner Conservative MPs. I don't think he'll make much difference, but it is a signal to more right-of-centrist Conservative voters (of whom there are many).
We have a family member whose mother is a Rhohinger Muslim from Myanmar. Her father a white British convert to the Muslim faith. We have Irish, Scots, Welsh and Polish family members
Dorisdodar your posts have a negative view of immigrants, or is it focussed mainly og those with Pakistani heritage
My son-in-law is an offspring of immigrants. Are you labelling them all?
PS. Everybody in the UK is a distant offspring of immigrants.
LizzieDrip...yes the assault was reported to the police...I didn't know her when this happened it was some years ago when she lived in Rochdale...the police didn't investigate...
Growstuff... Pakistanis had nothing to do with Manchester and Southport but were committed by immigrants or offspring of immigrants. It has nothing to do with a cabinet reshuffle but I replied to a previous comment further up the thread about immigration..is that ok?
Dorisdodar you describe some awful events - I hope your DIL is alright. I trust that all the events were reported to the authorities and dealt with appropriately.
Clearly the experience in your area is very different from mine.
Most of the crime I read about in my local area news involves young British white men dealing drugs.
Of course, that doesn’t mean I think all young British white men are drug dealers. We don’t tar everyone with the same brush do we.
Dorisdodar
LizzieDrip....ASB and other criminality.
My DIL was assaulted by a Pakistani man...he offered her alcohol and cigarettes to go with him she refused and he punched her in the face and broke her nose...my son had his car cloned...again by a Pakistani man.
I worked for the local council as a passenger assistant escorting SEND children to school the contract was given to a Pakistani taxi company the driver has just been jailed for sexual activity with a fourteen year old.
I live in a quiet village and the next town has a high population of people of Pakistani origin...our local park were I take my GC was covered in graffiti with red paint...I won't convey what was sprayed but the red triangles supporting Hamas were present.
I live in NW England too. Remembering the people and young girls killed in the Manchester bombings and Southport attacks. I think I'm right to be concerned.
What did the Southport attack have to do with Pakistanis?
And what does it have to do with a shadow cabinet reshuffle?
Well remembered MayBee
Starmer repeated how bad things were/are and was criticised for being a doomsayer
Sadly, he was right

I don’t recall Labour saying that could instantly fix immigration etc. Thought they were criticised when they were first elected by saying it would take a long time to fix what’s wrong with the country?
I’m in a former mill town in the north west as well, like other similar areas, we have a large Muslim population many of Pakistani heritage.
I’m very sorry to read about the dreadful assault on your daughter Dorisdodar. I hope the man was prosecuted.
It’s now clear that taxis are not the safe places we mostly assumed they were. Sex offenders are skilled at getting themselves in employment or volunteer roles that give them access to their target group. Vulnerable Adolescent children clearly in their target group, for reasons we can identify.
Hamas support is a serious issue. Maybe you’d like to start a discussion on that as it’s important and not related to the shadow cabinet reshuffle

We have the best government we have had in many years
Totally agree Iam64 👏👏👏

I have a husband who likes to be right as in correct. It must have some effect on my worldview…..*Casdon*.
In any event, you are dealing with imponderables. I don’t relish a government led by Farage but he definitely knows how to appeal to the masses. Starmer take note…. Please.
That's scary. Just like the 🍊🤡
Casdon
Cleverly is high profile and well thought of. He is a strong personality, and won’t stand nonsense. I disagree with ronib, in that I can see him and the government mounting simultaneous attacks on Farage, specifically about his wild claims of utopia, which hasn’t been possible with Badenoch.
I hope you are right Whitewavemark, he’s not my favourite politician, but he is definitely credible.
I’m not a Tory supporter but when the contenders for leadership of the party gave their speeches I thought Cleverley’s was by far the best but tactical voting ruled him out.

Thanks for that.
It’s so true.
MrsMatt
Personally I think Cabinet Shuffles are ridiculous. Why would you keep moving people around within a 'Company' every few months. If 'Fred' is a whiz in Education then keep him there. If 'Sarah' is awesome with finances [Chancellor of the Exchequer] then why move her to Health, which she knows nothing about.
I will never understand it.
The problem is that most of them have no expertise in any field at all, that or you have lots of suitable candidates to be Minister for Education, for example, and no one knows anything about industry and engineering, but both need ministers
Then you have the problem of seniority. The big beasts, your top 6 MPs with lots of ministerial experience and possibly a lot of staunch supporters among other MPs, and in the country, all have to be accommodated. Shun any of them and you could be in trouble come the next annual conference, and a big beast left roaming loose can do a lot to make the PMs jo very difficult.
Then the minister of health dies/resigns/is sacked and the person you want to bring in is a tophole thinker but, less good with people, so health may not be best minstry for them, but if you make them a senior Treasury minister, then you have to find an equally senior post, fr the current incumbent - and then young fellowmelad has proved to be a brilliant Commons orator and really knows his brief. He is ripe for promotion, but if you move him to a senior ministerial position, you will need to reorganise the whole castle of cards.
That MrsMatt, is why cabinet shuffles happen as they do
