He died today. Only 76.
Thoughts for Sharon and his family.

I went up the escalator in M&S this morning behind a man in shorts who had a big black tattoo of the members of Black Sabbath on his calf. Above Ozzy he had added RIP Ozzy and the date, it still looked sore. That shows some devotion.

There's a glorious YouTube clip of Ozzy, in his American Mansion days, absolutely despairing of the quality of American chocolate and then going off to an English chocolate outlet and coming back with heaps of goodies; Mars Bars, Cadbury's Dairy Milk, Bounty bars, etc, etc, etc.

After tipping the lot into a large drawer he tries his darndest to force the drawer shut - with no success. Sharon is busying around him and doesn't bat an eyelid. Everyday life with Ozzy........

Tax thieves and druggies are not people I admire. I'm fed up of Americans coming back to this country to use the NHS in their old age. Americans are the biggest tax thieves in our country. They are taking over UK surgeries, and reducing the number of GPs employed, not to mention are the biggest tax avoiders.

Not sure if you’ve posted on the right thread? This thread is nothing to do with the NHS. Also, not sure we are being inundated by Americans coming here to use our NHS - where have you got your facts from?
If you think Ozzie was American, you’re mistaken. He was born in Birmingham. It’s possible, of course, that he had dual nationality and took American citizenship, but I don’t know if he did or didn’t. Either way, he hadn’t come “over here” to take advantage of our NHS as you seem to be implying.

Is this relevant to Ozzy?

He's Birmingham born and bred!

Vegansrock I don’t understand that saying why can’t we be truthful wether anyone’s dead or alive I wasn’t a fan he wasn’t
my sort of person but he certainly cut the mustard with his huge fan base
I know grief played a part but Sharon looks so thin and old she said herself she went much too far on the weight loss jabs she looks very ill I thought wasting away

vegansrock Thu 31-Jul-25 06:47:50

I know we shouldn’t speak ill of the dead but I didn’t like his record for animal cruelty.

The hearse containing Ozzy's coffin will be brought through Birmingham City Centre tomorrow. I believe it will stop at the Black Sabbath bench on Broad Street which looks like this today.

Keith Flint VV. Now you’re talking, what a gentleman and such a sad ending. Prodigy played Glasto and dedicated their performance to him.

They were amazing weren’t they. I’ve never been a great Prodigy fan but thought they were brilliant and am now a convert.

RIP Ozzy, you will be missed by many but most of all by your loving family

Many metal/indie/rock artists are the same - they have their stage persona, which can often be very different from the 'real' person. Ozzy himself often said there was John Osbourne - and then there was 'Ozzy'. It reminds me of the late Keith Flint of The Prodigy and how everyone said was a lovely, kind, genuine, quiet person he was, as opposed to his on-stage persona. I think that's probably true for a lot of artists - it's a 'costume' (sometimes quite literally in some cases) which they don in order to become that stage performer.

MayBee70 Thu 24-Jul-25 16:58:02

I’ve read that he lived on Lodge Road which is next to the street where I spent my childhood, too. Wonder if I ever passed him in the street? I’m surprised that his childhood home still exists as the area where I lived was all pulled down.

Oreo Thu 24-Jul-25 16:51:41

His on stage persona was just that, a performance. It wasn’t my kind of thing but he had so many fans with Black Sabbath and then a solo artist that he must have been doing something right.I think Sharon saved him, and considering his drug use he did well to get to 76.He seemed to be a nice guy to all who knew him.

Kate1949 Thu 24-Jul-25 13:40:25

Everyone the press have spoken to about has said what a lovely man he was. Nothing like his onstage persona. Heavy metal is not my thing but I have always taken an interest in Ozzy as he grew up not far from where I did and because of our connection to his brother. Ozzy was said to have cried when he saw how many people turned out to see him at Villa Park.

Mum used to say ‘if you can’t say anything good about someone, say nothing’. A couple of posters could take her advice!

Loved the ‘wolves’ UTTB - I was about to post living under a rock, but the wolves is better!

Overated & a bit of a twit. 😶

Lovely, for a thread that wants to pay their respects that remark was totally uncalled for.

The mechanical bull stands proud in New Street station in Birmingham. It was named after Ozzy and is a fine tribute.

HiPpyChick57 Thu 24-Jul-25 02:02:21

RIP Ozzy.
I cast my mind back to where I spent many a Saturday night at the local rugby club “headbanging” to Paranoid, amongst other songs of the same genre.
Such sad news.
Condolences to Sharon and the family 🖤

Usedtobeblonde Thu 24-Jul-25 00:32:18

As someone who really has no interest in the type of music Ozzy Osbourne represented I feel you really had to have been brought up by wolves to say you had never heard of him.
What a stupid statement.
