Reform would probably relegated women police officers to office duties, looking after kids and rename them WPCs. Consistent with their return to the Golden past agenda.

Reform MP doesn't approve of female police patrolling without a male colleague
(32 Posts)Sarah Pochin, their justice spokesperson has said that female police officers should only patrol with a "big, strapping male" officer! What century does this woman live in?
Oreo
On patrol mainly means in cars and officers attend incidents, sometimes just two women which is ridiculous for some incidents.
You can be a policeman if you’re only 4 feet 10, male or female maybe less who knows!
There’s little respect now and some men will punch a female officer with no regard as we saw in the airport fight when the two Pakistani men went berserk on female and male police.
Watching that scene on the news sickens me. If the punishment doesn't fit the crime in this case, I think police numbers will start to fall even more. Its not always about funding from govetnment, its about low moral amongst the police.
I don't know about big and strapping, but certainly be accompanied by a male colleagued. As for what world the Reform M.P is living in, I think like me she is living in the real world. When I was 16 (nrly 50 years ago) I did not fear travelling home alone from work at 10pm on a bus, now I won't even travel on a bus at tea time. I go in to the town to do my shopping before lunchtime. Because that seems to be when the scroats of society get out of their pits, to cause unrest and intimidation in the town centre. When the drunks and druggies, weave in and out of shoppers begging for money. So yes that is the real world, and its getting worse. And anyone who thinks it isn't, needs to take off their rose tinted glasses
When my DH was a young constable they nearly always patrolled alone with only a whistle and a truncheon as defence.
One freezing night he found a man slumped in a doorway. He went to his aid as he thought he would freeze outside. The man pulled a knife out of his pocket and threatened to stab him. The hard stare and firm voice recommended above would probably have resulted in DH being stabbed.
DH just used a calm voice and eventually they were discussing football and the man gave him the knife and spent the night on a warm cell.

Until quite recently I don’t think you would ever see a police officer, male or female, patrolling alone. However, I can’t remember when I last saw one, male or female, on the street which I guess is due to staff shortages. This is a shame as I think their presence would go some way in deterring shoplifters and unsocial behaviour. I do agree that they should always attend incidents in pairs, ideally one male and one female where staffing allows.
I remember back in the day, as a girl, visiting Glasgow the police would be really tall, over 6ft, most wore a tash. Mum said they recruited a lot from the highlands- there would be no messing.
My dad, 15, was taken into one of those police boxes, & kneed in the privates for riding his bike with no lights.
Now cops are all shapes & sizes, some, I don’t how they could chase down a burglar, some are really unfit. So think it’s much safer in twos.

She is right. Sadly. That or give them a gun like most police forces in the world.
Absolutely no guns!!!

No way.
My Goddaughter is a Police Woman. Tiny little thing but as tough as old boots. Asking her if she was ever concerned about being in a difficult situation, she's said she's not overly worried as they have been trained to handle themselves. She reckons two female offices are quite capable of handling problems plus they are more likely to assess and call in for back up if its escalates.
These Women who are in the Police Force are not shrinking violets.
It doesn't need to be a male officer but they most certainly need to patrol in pairs.
A family member is a serving police officer who when arresting a shoplifter on their own had to rely on members of the public to restrain the girlfriend from jabbing them in the neck with a broken bottle.
One of my cousins was a London policewoman in the 1990s. It was an awful job and after a few years she gave up because she didn’t want her children to grow up motherless. I don’t think things have improved. Of course they should work in pairs. There are a lot of scumbags out there.

I doubt if a hard stare and tone of voice would be enough to deter criminals!
I don't know. I have seen a few possibly potential criminals in a school situation being quelled by the hard stare. It can be quite traumatic for them...
A memory of this could well be revived if they were on the receiving end of the same technique years later

Having seen the way the polic women were attacked at Manchester Airport while in the company of big strapping males, I am inclined to agree; what could have happened to them if there had not been other policemen there I dread to think. Usually the presence of police women calms a violent behaviour, or so I was told. Now, not so much.
I don’t care what a newbie non government MP says about policing. My own views would be equally well informed. I’m much more interested in what changes are being made, and will be made in the next four years at the moment.

The reform party are able at the moment to talk any rubbish and promise solutions to everything that happens, because they are NOT in power. Personally I would take no notice of them, as Farage and co talk a load of rubbish, exposing their own appalling attitudes on many things, but hopefully, however much we dislike some policies of other parties, we could not be so stupid as to have Reform as any part of the government!!!
Personally as a woman of 5ft 6" tall and 80 years of age, I have had no problem sorting things out over the years. Mind you I am a teacher and lecturer, and find that the look and tone of voice is usually all this is needed to deal with situations and no need for swearing either!!
I couldn’t agree more. Sarah Pochin was on the politics show on BBC2 on Monday this week, and has been on there several times since being elected. She comes over as very angry and aggressive, attempting to talk over anyone with another point of view and promoting simplistic views on everything. I am astounded that she was ever voted in.
As for your second point, my dil, is a secondary school teacher who still loves her job and has few problems with discipline. She definitely has the tone of voice and the look that instantly pulls her children back into line, skills that are disappearing because of soft parenting.
Police should never patrol alone. Men or women. I well remember many years ago due to staff shortages a young female officer out alone was set on by a big strapping male. A member of the public called 999 and my DH and another officer from a different station went to her aid.
The poor police woman had been beaten so badly that she spent months in hospital.
She was 5ft 5" and weighed 9 stone. The attacker was a foot taller and 16 stone. She didn't stand a chance. Even with training a woman is unlikely to be able to overcome that size of male despite what is portrayed in TV series.
My DH and the other officer did grapple with him and he was arrested.

In some situations, a female police officer can defuse a situation - not all, of course.
Some belligerent men feel they must not lose face when confronted by a male officer so are obliged to escalate the problem.
Why are Reform talking about this? They seem to have a habit of throwing out random thoughts each week, mostly unconnected to the life of their constituents. How is Clacton just now, Mr Farage?
With so much disrespect for authority these days, I think it’s imperative that police patrol in pairs, even when they are in a car. Attending incidents they always should have additional support with them.
As for the male/female combo well that’s a difficult one. Some women are more than capable of taking a man down with the correct training. Would the fact that a male is required to partner a female diminish the status of the female officer? The thin edge of the wedge, in my opinion.
I believe they should always work in pairs. Male or female . The antisocial disrespectful behavior nowadays can be shocking . What has happened to this country . Some people live by violence and causing fear . I wouldn't want my granchildren to be a member of the police force . I respect those that are .
I agree in general that female officers are at more risk of assault, however, I was present at an incident where a big strapping male and female officer attended.
The offender was drunk and causing trouble, the female officer was trying to get him to calm down and go home, “ if you don’t I’m going to arrest you”, he replied, “ I’d like to see you try”, 2 seconds later he was flat on his face on the floor with handcuffs on.
Dont assume all female officers are pussycats.

Our police station closed nearly twenty years ago. No police officers have been on the beat since then they don’t exist anymore
