It is very difficult to understand what is really happening and what are lies being perpetrated by Israel or Hamas. Add to this reporting restrictions and it is surprising we know as much as we do.

Yes for a time and the extermination of disabled children whose parents didn't know what had happened to them.
It took a long time for the world to wake up to many of the atrocities the Nazis committed.

The parallel (and I only wrote of a parallel) is the Warsaw Ghetto, where people were confined to a small area and given food by the Nazis - 300 calories a day - and there was mass starvation. Some of them were the ancestors of some of today's Israelis.

Maremia Mon 28-Jul-25 17:03:56

Did not know that about the Rabbis worldwide, TheatreLover.
Thanks for the fuller details, Parsley3

Anniebach the Nazi atrocities were not widely known during the war. Information was not disseminated although the Allies were aware and it wasn't until 1945 and the concentration camps were liberated that the full horror became evident.

This, however, is irrelevant to what is happening in Gaza.

es, Winston Churchill was aware of the Holocaust and publicly condemned the atrocities committed by Nazi Germany. He received information about the systematic mass murder of Jews through British intelligence and other sources as early as 1941. Churchill frequently referenced these killings in his speeches and correspondence, expressing his horror and promising retribution.

Netanyahu is Churchillian. Netanyahu sees his mission as the brave Western spearpoint defending Western values against a lot of dangerous extremists.

An announcement by a couple of Israeli ministers, not an announcement from Parliament is comparable with the
Holocaust and the Nazis.

Rock. Bottom and Still Drilling in my opinion

The Nazi Holocaust was industrialised unlike the Netanyahu regime's killings which are less efficiently managed and don't leave brick structures as evidence.

Also the Nazi Holocaust was unlike the Israeli killings because Nazis had a daft racist myth to endorse what they did. The Netanyahu regime is not racist so far but is only
ethnicentric and nationalistic.

Quote AGAA4 Mon 28-Jul-25 15:34:13
This is a different atrocity and should not be compared to WW2. Circumstances are not the same. Difficult to hide genocide these days as the Nazis managed to do for years.

You believe Nazis were able to hide the extermination of Jews ,
they started in 1933

Annie - referring to comments up thread:

Of course it should not be compared with The Holocaust.

A holocaust is another matter.

Hundreds of rabbis demand Israel stop 'using starvation as a weapon of war'. Letter signed by rabbis worldwide and across denominations warn of 'grave moral crisis' and calls on the Israeli government to work urgently 'to bring home all the hostages and end the fighting'.

(The Times of Israel 27 July 2025).

👏

Anniebach Mon 28-Jul-25 15:21:38

No mention of Hamas freeing the hostages, no criticism of
Hamas ,the leader of Hamas is surely preparing for the world stage, invites to address many parliaments

A bit more about the Israeli groups criticism of their government.
For the first time, two major Israeli human rights NGOs—B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights–Israel—have formally accused the Israeli government of committing genocide in Gaza. Their joint report alleges that Israeli policy amounts to “deliberate and coordinated efforts to destroy Palestinian society,” citing evidence from infrastructure destruction, starvation, displacement, and leadership statements

Death by starvation is very brutal. It is a long agonising way to kill someone.
It is actually kinder to shoot someone than put them through that agony but Netanyahu thought he would get away with the neglect but not shooting every man woman and child in Gaza.

To the point!

In the same newspaper, Trump says he does not endorse Netanyahu's claim that there is no starvation in Gaza.

That's something, I suppose. Netanyahu doesn't take notice of anybody else.

In The Guardian online just now,
'Israel committing genocide in Gaza just now say Israeli-based human rights groups.'

Interesting. But rather sad that many won’t believe what is playing out in real time in front of their eyes until Israeli groups say it.
However, am really glad that they have, now let’s see who comes out with ‘but they are left wing groups and the Guardian is left wing propaganda’.
I give it half an hour or so.

growstuff Mon 28-Jul-25 14:19:53

Yes, Annie, that's what I wrote - an announcement by a couple of ministers (I can't remember exactly how many). What do you think would happen if UK ministers said something like that? I have a feeling they would be sacked and Starmer would deny that he had anything to do with them.

I didn't write that Israel and Jews can be compared with the Holocaust and Nazis - I wrote that there are chilling parallels. If you're so blinkered you can deny that, you're very welcome to drill and much as you like.

By the way, I'm entitled to my opinion, just as you are to yours.

In normal circumstances, nobody could legitimately compare Israel or Jews with the Holocaust or Nazis. However, there are some chilling parallels with what's been happening on the West Bank, the announcements by a couple of Israeli ministers that the intention to clear Gaza of Palestinians and the events of the last week or so, which have been a blatant attempt to starve Palestinians.
