Please no!
His concert raised a lot for charity which was brilliant. The rest in the past, not so. Certainly not his name over the Airport, we have enough problems with the bin strikes.

Allira Thu 31-Jul-25 17:20:44

I flew from Speke - at least I knew where to go to find it!

semperfidelis Thu 31-Jul-25 17:28:23

Where are the girls' names?

Julie Walters is my choice.

Grandma29 Thu 31-Jul-25 17:33:12

Are we real. Renamimg an airport after Ozzy Osborne!
We seem to have our prorities wrong.
Honouring a man known for biting a bat’s/and dove’s head off on stage for effect😡!!!
I don’t think so!!😡.

Kate1949 Thu 31-Jul-25 17:56:11

Alison Hammond Airport? Martin Shaw Airport? Barbara Cartland Airport? grin The possibilities are endless!

I think all this fuss about Ozzy Osbourne had me cringeing to be honest.

I did not like his music at all and cannot belive how brainwahed and jump on the Celeb bandwagon people have now become.

If you want to celebrate naffBirmingham. How about Jasper Carrot, Crossroads

Naff Birmingham? How insulting. Is that what you think of my hometown?? sad Black Sabbath created a whole new genre of music. Birmingham is proud of them and they and Ozzy were/are proud of Birmingham.

Allira Thu 31-Jul-25 18:12:09

Naff Birmingham?

Ignore, it's rude. It's not my home town but I spent happy hours there as a teenager!

Mind you, I think Birmingham Airport should remain as that - because there's s nothing wrong with the name and calling airports after pop/rock stars is just daft imo.

MayBee70 Thu 31-Jul-25 18:14:21

Useless fact; It used to be called Elmdon Airport.

woodenspoon Thu 31-Jul-25 18:16:49

How about Birmingham Ozzy Airport? That ticks all the boxes.

Allira Thu 31-Jul-25 18:18:18

I don't remember that.
We never flew anywhere when I was a child!
And I'd moved to another part of the country by the late 1960s.

I was in my late thirties before I flew anywhere. It was only when we first of all realised that we could stay in a cottage in Cornwall for the same price as the caravans that we used to rent. And then realised that a package holiday in Greece was cheaper than renting a cottage in Cornwall ( and it didn’t rain for two weeks). My in laws lived in Sheldon just down the road from Elmdon airport, that’s why I knew it well!

Allira Thu 31-Jul-25 18:34:30

I'd never heard of it.
I did fly a short hop from Speke Airport in my early 20s but not again until I was 45!!
Trains and boats and coaches (not planes)

Osbourne International airport has a ring to it 💁‍♀️

MayBee70 Thu 31-Jul-25 18:42:04

We just drove round Europe in a Morris 100 Traveller. And by train when we worked for the railways. And then, in a mini with a small baby ( I’ve no idea how we did that given that we didn’t have a trailer or a roof rack).

Oh really? Thats OTT. he wasn't particularly nice to animals. He's not someone to look up to is he?

Kate1949 Thu 31-Jul-25 19:33:00

WithNobsOn How many times have you been to 'naff' Birmingham? If the answer is none, please don't come. We don't want people here who insult our city. So stay away (with nobs on).

Kate1949 Thu 31-Jul-25 19:34:32

I remember when the airport was called Elmdon.

Desdemona Thu 31-Jul-25 20:09:43

I have never listened to his music but was mildly sad when I heard he had died so soon after doing a charity concert.

Then my daughter told me he had murdered his cats and assaulted his wife. I haven't tried to verify this at all, but it has made me feel that potentially my sadness was unwarranted.

I don't think any of them are a good idea.

An airport should denote the name of the place where it is situated. It's pandering to popular culture and just ridiculous.

Cadbury Airport anyone?

Bin Strike Airport would be better - everyone's heard about the ongoing strike.

While I am not in any way making light of the death of Ozzy Ozbourne, I do have some thoughts about the performance afterwards.
So, he has died. He was lucky to last as long as he did, given his depraved lifestyle.
Everyone will die eventually. I have never understood the hysteria when famous people die. Sadness, yes, of course, but you see crowds of people on tv screaming and sobbing. I think some of these people mourn more for the ‘celebs’ than their own relatives. Or are they just caught up in the mass hysteria around them? The crowds at Princess Diana’s funeral are an example. (I actually met her once and she spoke to me. I thought she was amazing and the only famous person I have truly cared about, but I didn’t tear my hair out and scream and yell when she died. I put the money I would have spent on flowers into one of Diana’s charities, which seemed more helpful than buying flowers). The sad thing is, apart from the few bouquets that were taken to hospitals etc afterwards, the only people to benefit from those were the florists!
When I die, I would love that sort of send-off! But I, like everyone, am just an ordinary person. When you think about it, most other people are too.

I visited Birmingham many years ago when my husband was staying there, on a course for his job. No big shopping mall etc then. We walked along the canal and I really liked it.
It isn’t imperative to knock everything, you know. You may not like a place particularly, but is it necessary to say so? Does it make you feel good?
I agree with Kate1949.

Sorry, the three sentences BEFORE the last one! (I’m cross and concentrating properly!). Some people!
