King’s Distant cousin says Historian

My GGfather started his working life, probably aged about 10, as a loom weaver, about as far down the labouring jobs it is possible to go.
In his 20’s he became a Police officer and his children including my GM were born in various parts of Derbyshire where he seemed to be posted.
We then uncovered his “retirement” papers from the police force citing that he wished to better himself.
Next census showed his employment as Loom weaver.
Not so far up the ladder then.

Oh well I'm descended from Irish peasants. I'm proud they managed to survive and procreate.

My second cousin is actually a direct descendant of Edward IV (I think that's the one) through his mother but that's the posh side of the family 😀

Perhaps she means the Boleyn family rather than Anne herself, who as we know, only had one child, Elizabeth.

I come from an Irish catholic family and my grandfather, in his day, was an eminent catholic, consorting with bishops and cardinals and decorated by both Pope and Queen for his activities

My sister and I used to comment on the Irish priests we met who would claim to be distantly related to our grandfather, but, seemingly, not to us. People are only boast of distant relations when they are eminent or notorious.

If they were related, wouldn't they be 5th cousins? Bearing in mind all Victoria's children and grandchildren, they must be thousands of great-great-great-grand children. Oh and she'd be related to every European monarch.

All in all. Highly plausible!!!😀

Go back 10 generations, around 250 years ago, and just taking the direct line of parents and grandparents, you will have 1200 plus 9 x great, grandparents. In other words around 1750 you would have 1200 plus direct line family

Now take into account all the siblings these 9x great grandparents will have had and take that down those, their children and their children etc etc and you can probably trace kinship at some level with hundreds of thousands of people alive today.

It is hardly surprising that most if not all of us will be the distant relations of royalty, serial killers and paedophiles.

I've seen family trees on Ancestry going back to Adam and Eve!

On one family tree I did , not mine, a man publicly hanged In Lincolnshire for stealing a horse. I can’t recall date etc now but his - g g g g etc granddaughter was thrilled and was so excited at the chance to tell her school class, junior school !

It's a good line to shoot at a boring party

Not sure if this is relevant - it might be - but it is a true story which has stayed with me. A relation of mine was a doctor and he told me of being called to see a middle aged patient who had severe abdominal pain. He did a very thorough examination, and found himself delivering a baby. The woman knew she had been putting on weight but assumed it was the menopause.

Prince Philip provided a DNA sample when Anna Anderson claimed to be Grand Duchess Anastasia. She was proved not to be Anastasia.

DNA was also taken from him and others to identify the remains of the Romanov family.
He was also a descendant of Queen Victoria as well as the Romanovs.

I'm not sure how many generations this woman claims to be from Queen Victoria or if all the ancestors are female. If they are all female, it might be possible to persuade a maternal descendant to be DNA tested - they should both have the same mitochondrial DNA.

If this woman has come through males and females and is a third or fourth cousin of any known descendant, she'll have to rely on autosomal DNA testing. The chances of having shared DNA are (I think) about 1%, but it might be possible to prove something.
