“The UK technology secretary, Peter Kyle, has become embroiled in a row with Nigel Farage after saying the Reform leader was on the side of child abusers such as Jimmy Savile when it came to online safety.

Farage called for an apology from Kyle, saying the comparison was “disgusting”. He claimed it was not unreasonable to call for the repeal of the Online Safety Act that came into force last week.

Kyle doubled down, saying the act forced providers to “detect and remove horrific child sexual abuse material, using hash matching [technology], [which] prevents grooming and stops strange adults messaging kids, keeps children’s profiles and locations hidden, and stops kids seeing porn”.

Reform UK said on Monday it would repeal the act, arguing that measures intended to push social media companies to limit false and potentially harmful content would make the UK “a borderline dystopian state”.
I think people have misinterpreted what Peter Kyle said. He didn’t say Farage would be friends with Saville just that voting against the bill would make Reform on the side of people like Saville.

Are you confusing this with the unpleasant remark by Peter Kyle saying that if he were still alive, Farage would be a friend of Jimmy Savile?

It’s not changed anything Allira, there were two by elections yesterday I believe, that’s why I was talking in the plural, they won a seat on Carmarthenshire CC too. There may have been more, those were the ones I saw reported.

There was always the possibility of stopping his rise to power. And many people did try to fight his rhetoric and later his methods. Many paid with their lives. Would I do it? I would probably keep myself to myself so as not to endanger my family. But while I can I will speak out Teazel12, and that includes speaking out against the blind support of extremists.

That really isn't the point. Farage is Farage. However, as Maya Angelou said, "when someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time". So we should take note when people work from the same playbook. There is a good chance they want the same things.
