J D Vance in The Cotswolds

J D Vance is on holiday in The Cotswolds with his family.

Not just his family - there is a cavalcade of 18 cars with very high security which involves police escorts, road closures, causing residents and other visitors to become rather disgruntled. The village of Dean near Chipping Norton has been put into lockdown, apparently. Villagers are not happy to say the least!

He had already been to inspect Hampton Court Palace (no, it's not for sale, sorry).

Thank goodness we visited The Cotswolds last week not this one 😀

Caleo

He is perhaps not as charming as we'd like, however Mr. Vance is not an enemy of the British state.

Mmmmn. debatable
😂

Now that he's here in Scotland, maybe it's time for us to revamp Janey Godley's infamous Trump sign to 'welcome' Vance instead! gringringrin

Oreo Thu 14-Aug-25 13:26:09

Who’s Jane Godley and what was the sign?

Allira Thu 14-Aug-25 13:38:54

Jane Godley was a Scottish comedian and political activist. Not sure what the Trump sign was, though.

I was thinking that Mike Yarwood could come back again to impersonate Trump - Jon Culshaw could be Vance, although Jon does an excellent Trump 😀

Not to forget Rory Bremner as Starmer!

Excellent placards in the Cotswolds saying ‘Go away’ and Go home’. smile

Indiebee Thu 14-Aug-25 13:53:30

I meant to add - British understatement at its finest!

vintageclassics Thu 14-Aug-25 13:57:29

Despicable excuse for a human being - a bullying mysoginist supporting a lying, narcisstic, dangerous, pedophile, abusive excuse for a President - why on earth are we entertaining their nonsense - we should be more Canadian and treat them both with utter contempt

And carrying guns, wearing sun glasses when it’s raining! You should still complain to your local council and MP.
Just how much are they bringing to the town financially? Is it worth it?
Who invited him?
Were residents consulted about the disruption?

Lesley60 Thu 14-Aug-25 13:58:31

I don’t know who could think Vance is ok after the way he spoke to president Zalensky

Mojack26 Thu 14-Aug-25 14:02:03

He flew into Prestwick in Ayrshire on Airforce 2 and is staying at a nearby 'country estate' I assume is code for Turnberry! Must be touring about.... horrible character...

Yes carrying guns and sunglasses in the rain def should be criminal acts🤭 I can’t see Vance now without thinking of The Sat Night Live spoof with poor Zelensky in the White House. You know the one ‘excuuuuuse ME! You haven’t said sorry once in the last ten seconds and you haven’t even said how handsome we are!’

Vance is nearly as much of a fraud and conman as Chump (you can research his history).

You can also check his previous comments re Chump (Publicly, he called the Republican businessman an "idiot" and said he was "reprehensible." Privately, he compared him to Adolf Hitler.). . . .source Reuters, though many other fact-check sites will confirm just that and more.

Then, at some point during or soon after Chump's first term, Vance was apparently shopping in a store labelled 'Political expediency & hypocrisy' and had a biblical style revelation, that Chump could likely win a further term (with a lack of charismatic candidates in both parties). Hence his dramatic conversion to Chump's beliefs and 'policies', and his sudden elevation, from being relatively unknown, to an odious and insulting VP.

So, for Oreo, and GrannyGravy and others, Vance was referring to Hitler well before anyone on these threads (& for all Chump's many faults, he hasn't instigated a comprehensive set of Holocaust death camps, nor caused some 30+ million deaths of combatants and civilians).

Laughing at your middle paragraph it’s very funny and true.

For some reason, I think Vance is okay…. It’s great that he is interested in this country and wants to holiday here. He will soon be back home.

He's been very critical of us brits and our govt, talking about the uncontrolled crime here and the curtailing of free speech. I think he's a fool and also a bully ( Zelenskyy confrontation) and should know better than to criticise another country and then hope to be accepted when he brings his family here for a holiday.

AGAA4 Thu 14-Aug-25 14:31:01

Vance is an obnoxious bully. He instigated the attack on Zelensky and Trump joined in. Unheard of for a vice president to take the lead.

ronib Thu 14-Aug-25 14:32:27

knspolI don’t think politicians ever worry about being accepted. It’s not in their mindset.
I don’t think it’s too way off to say that free speech has been curtailed and crime numbers are well up.
Is Vance a bully? - well it was some performance with Zelensky first time around. Probably concocted in the White House to bring Zelensky to heel. Agree it was poor.

On a showery day like today, my reactolite glasses don't change quickly so are still sunglasses in the rain! In fact, they don't react well at all so I always look a bit shady 😎
Security service or OCG?

Yes, I thought he seemed to be at the forefront of everything as if he's in charge and Trump is just his ventriloquist's dummy.

Ellie Anne Thu 14-Aug-25 14:39:13

He’s not at turnberry. He’s on a private estate near Kilmarnock.

Bestgrammaever Thu 14-Aug-25 14:39:25

Someone commented that he isn't an enemy of the British people. Are you sure?

AGAA4 Thu 14-Aug-25 14:40:34

Perhaps he wears sunglasses in the rain because Mrs V or someone has given him a black eye.

You would obviously prefer Putin as a friend, in the circumstances I think the UK had a pretty good deal on tariffs.

Camille333 Thu 14-Aug-25 14:59:05

I think it's lovely that he wants to see Britain,he is our friend.Hes only here for a short time for heavens sake.

OldFrill Thu 14-Aug-25 15:06:27

He's staying at Carnell -

To be honest Kilmarnock and the rest of Ayrshire need all the potential tourism publicity it can get. It is not the Cotswolds.
