Unfolding Genocide

BBC report

“Israel has faced mounting criticism over the 22-month-long war with Hamas, with UN-backed experts warning of widespread famine unfolding in the besieged territory.

On Tuesday members of an international group of former leaders known as "The Elders" for the first time called the war in Gaza an "unfolding genocide" and blamed Israel for causing famine among its population.

Following a visit to the Gaza border, Helen Clark and Mary Robinson, a former prime minister of New Zealand and a former president of Ireland, said in a joint statement: "What we saw and heard underlines our personal conviction that there is not only an unfolding, human-caused famine in Gaza. There is an unfolding genocide."

£3 million is not enough then?

Anniebach

Given all that has been said by you and others, food wasn’t getting into Gaza, Bob Geldof spoke of aid needed, he didn’t single out women and children, unless the men in Gaza are keeping food from women and children, Lammy seems to be playing the children card.

Babies and children die first in a famine.

Babs03 Sun 31-Aug-25 14:40:16

Am surprised that we are even having to argue this point. Nothing Lammy said was unacceptable.
I think some people could argue with themselves in an empty room.

Young children are losing too many kilos of weight which is very serious for them. Most adults won't be in danger from losing the same amount of weight.

Arguing with themselves in a crowded room would be troubling ,

It was reported that this aid is specifically for Pregnant women and new mothers as well as women and girls without pads or anything else to manage their periods.
As for Hamas there is no way Gaza can be governed now given the chaos, and no doubt they have all retreated to safer areas anyway.

Maremia Sun 31-Aug-25 16:49:59

May I ask you ronib to clarify a post 'please don't stop at 61,000'?
It's not clear what you mean by that.

ronib Sun 31-Aug-25 16:52:49

I meant that unless some miracle happens, many more people will be killed and 61,000 is just the start. Appalling and disgusting. Maremia There is no end in sight.

silverlining48 Sun 31-Aug-25 17:17:09

Sadly there is no end in sight, a tragedy for those involved, while the world looks on.

What do you want the world to do. ?

ronib Sun 31-Aug-25 17:21:54

Wave a magic wand? Would be good ….Broker some kind of deal? Impossible?

Babs03 Sun 31-Aug-25 17:33:50

Without a US President prepared to take a tough stance in order to bring about a ceasefire there is no chance, Trump just wants to purchase some prime real estate near the med.

Maremia Sun 31-Aug-25 18:12:32

Thank you ronib, and I agree with you.

silverlining48 Sun 31-Aug-25 20:23:58

You ask What do I want the world to do? They are already doing it.

The world is on the march. All over the world there are tens of thousands protesting and demonstrating support for Palestine and peace.
Will the politicians listen ? They should. Even if Netanyahu won’t, he can’t ignore the groundswell of protest on his doorstep, in Israel.

This is something some of us can do directly, or offer out support

It is from the newsletter of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign

This is a long standing registered charity registered in 1982.

"The government has banned the Israeli delegation from attending the DSEI arms fair in London, taking place in 10 days' time.
This is a welcome step that is testament to the strength of our movement. Inviting Israel to attend would have been rewarding an apartheid state committing genocide against Palestinians.

However, it is not enough

the government is still allowing Israeli arms companies to exhibit and market their weapons freely. The fair must be cancelled entirely

On 10 September, join us to create a wall of noise as the arms dealers leave the event. Assemble at 5pm at the Western Gateway to the Excel Centre and bring pots and pans.

While it is significant that the British government has banned an Israeli delegation as a direct response to Israel’s genocide in Gaza, it is simply not enough.

Among the arms companies attending is Elbit Systems, which supplies the Israeli military with a range of weaponry essential to carry out its genocide, including armoured drones, bombs and artillery shells. Israeli arms companies, like Elbit Systems, develop and test their weapons through Israel’s atrocities against Palestinians, before using events like DSEI to market them to other repressive states as ‘combat-proven

This year, despite the ban on Israel’s official delegation these companies will exhibit at DSEI alongside arms companies such as BAE Systems, which produces essential components forIsrael’s fighter jets, used to bomb Palestinians in Gaza.

DSEI is a key event in facilitating Britain’s arms trade with Israel. It is essential that we confront it and show the strength of opposition among Londoners.

Join us at 5pm at the Western Gateway to the Excel Centre. Bring pots and pans to create a wall of noise as the arms dealers leave, and to symbolise Israel’s starvation of Palestinians

The decision to ban the official Israeli delegation falls shamefully short of the government’s obligations to prevent genocide, but it shows that our protests and campaigns are having an impact.

Now is the time to build more pressure on the government.
Note

This means mobilising a huge national demonstration on Saturday 6 September

and ensuring another big protest to oppose DSEI on Wednesday 10 September

Join our protest to create a wall of noise as the arms dealers leave DSEI on 10 September.

What about us all around the country

On this page
palestinecampaign.org/events/

there is a form to fill in to find one near you, you don't have to give any personal information, its to identify an event

Difficult, no arms for Israel, who would be the first to attack ?

valdavi Sun 31-Aug-25 21:02:21

Israel have their dome, and the USA would retaliate if Israel were attacked.Neighbouring countries know this.
They also have arms in the country already, and many (most?) of the settlers are armed;if there were no replacements coming in, they just might stop using them to attack defenceless people.

Hamas defenceless, Iran defenceless, all countries in Middle East defenceless?

Anniebach Sun 31-Aug-25 21:18:14

Banging saucepans will stop the arms trade ?

Babs03 Sun 31-Aug-25 22:03:02

Annie Israel will never be short of the very latest weaponry supplied on demand by the US, so rest assured, they can continue to defend their country by wiping out an entire population.

Where are the demonstrations and support for the innocent Israeli hostages suffering unspeakable suffering at the hands of Hamas ?

silverlining48 Sun 31-Aug-25 23:02:27

Thanks Wyllow for the information.
I am going to try to get to one of the marches.

Thanks Wyllow for the information.
I am going to try to get to one of the marches.

It also occurred to me that a good way of supporting the cause is to join or send money to the Palestine Solidarity Campaign because a lot of us can' t manage marches or live far way form any of them.
