Unfolding Genocide

BBC report

“Israel has faced mounting criticism over the 22-month-long war with Hamas, with UN-backed experts warning of widespread famine unfolding in the besieged territory.

On Tuesday members of an international group of former leaders known as "The Elders" for the first time called the war in Gaza an "unfolding genocide" and blamed Israel for causing famine among its population.

Following a visit to the Gaza border, Helen Clark and Mary Robinson, a former prime minister of New Zealand and a former president of Ireland, said in a joint statement: "What we saw and heard underlines our personal conviction that there is not only an unfolding, human-caused famine in Gaza. There is an unfolding genocide."

'Israeli officials have repeatedly described how Hamas' military strength has been depleted.' (Guardian archives) or just google it for yourself.
The danger they presented at the outset of this latest offensive no longer exists, and therefore neither does the often used excuse for this offensive degenerating into the current genocide.

One asks, why refuse to release the hostages ?

ronib Thu 04-Sept-25 10:25:54

The holocaust?

AGAA4 Thu 04-Sept-25 10:40:05

Anniebach "why refuse to release the hostages*.
This has been explained before. Why would Hamas release them.? They are terrorists and care little for human life and they know that even if they released the hostages the plan to rid Gaza of Palestinians would go on especially now that Netanyahu has said he will conquer all of Gaza.

Some may find this worth watching

silverlining48 Thu 04-Sept-25 12:27:41

Just listened to your clip and yes it’s worth watching especially for anyone whose knowledge and understanding of the history is scanty. Thanks.

An organisation described by international media as ‘the world’s leading association of genocide scholars’ after it voted in favour of a motion to describe Israel’s actions in Gaza as genocide has been found to be an organisation which operated an open membership model, meaning anyone was able to join and become a voting member if they pay a nominal fee.

As widely reported earlier this week, the International Association of Genocide Scholars voted on a motion to describe Israel’s actions in Gaza as a genocide. Around 28% of the organisation’s 500+ members voted on the motion, with 82% of those voting supporting it. The IAGS’s adoption of the motion was reported worldwide – the BBC’s headline was “Israel committing genocide in Gaza, world’s leading experts say”, while the Guardian went with the very similar “Israel committing genocide in Gaza, world’s top scholars on the crime say”.

It doesn’t surprise me that you dismiss this organisation Annie just as you dismiss any organisation, with fee paying members or not, if they say that Israel is committing genocide.
Tbh I doubt you would believe it if journalists from round the world were given access to Gaza and reported that genocide is happening. Your mind is made up and I suppose mine is too.

Anniebach Thu 04-Sept-25 14:34:42

Curious, anyone on this thread voted ?

AGAA4 Thu 04-Sept-25 14:43:05

Smotrich is planning to annexe 82% of the west bank. He wants 'maximum land with minimum Arabs'.
The occupation of the west bank by Israel is illegal under international law.

The IDF thought that a Hamas fighter was nearby? So, they missed him, presumably a large male, and instead hit five children?
Medics, returned to the UK have given testimony, that those IDF snipers are expert shots.
So good are they, that from a distance they can hit a small child in the head, and then follow up with a strike at the heart. That takes expertise.
If they can do that to a child, they can take down the adult fighter they claim to be aiming at.
So sick of their lies.

bmacca Thu 04-Sept-25 15:05:53

The mental gymnastics by those who continue to try to excuse Israel must be exhausting

Anniebach Thu 04-Sept-25 15:08:40

So tragic, using alleged deaths of children Maremia , unless you have photographs of children with bullet wounds to the head and chest

Keep it up all

Oreo Thu 04-Sept-25 15:09:15

It’s easy bmacca we want Israel to succeed, simple as that.
🇮🇱

Oreo Thu 04-Sept-25 15:10:02

And we dismiss all the hamas propaganda too.

Maremia Thu 04-Sept-25 15:13:25

You want Israel to suceed with the genocide?

Maremia Thu 04-Sept-25 15:14:04

Christian churches under threat are Hamas?

Oreo Thu 04-Sept-25 15:16:06

Succeed with getting rid of hamas members of course.

Maremia Thu 04-Sept-25 15:25:14

Christians who speak out about the IDF in Gaza, are they Hamas?

Maremia Thu 04-Sept-25 15:27:02

AnnieB, just google this question and see for yourself,
'Is there evidence that the IDF is killing children in Gaza'

Babs03 Thu 04-Sept-25 15:27:51

Getting rid of a terrorist organisation is not easy, many nations have discovered this after suffering terrorist attacks for many decades, most don’t go down the road of all out genocide though, realising that dialogue resulting in a cessation of hostilities is the only way forwards in order to protect the lives of innocent civilians.
What Netanyahu is doing is not in any way a means to protect civilian lives or have the hostages returned.
It went way beyond a normal response to such hostilities a very long time ago.
And just for the record all terrorist organisations embed themselves in civilian areas because they live there, and all state a desire to eradicate their oppressors etc.

Babs03 Thu 04-Sept-25 15:34:36

What sone are trying to do is to insist that Hamas are different to other terrorist organisations and so Israel therefore has a right to behave in the way they do because there is no other way.
That is a total fallacy as other nations who have suffered terrorism will bear testimony to. But it is a way to hoodwink some into believing the only way to deal with Hamas is to commit genocide.

What other nations had a group such as hamas invade their country in the wee small hours, murder over a thousand people and take over 200 hostages back into their own country?

The UK has suffered terrorist attacks over many years where people have been killed. The security services work constantly to fight terrorism. There are terrorist here but our army doesn't try to root them out by killing everyone around them
